He however called on Federal Government to support the operations through funding and other relevant necessities, so as to encourage the Initiative.

He however called on more funding for NSCDC, under the leadership of Commandant General Abdullahi Muhammed Gana, as it appears that they are underfunded, though working proactively to improve the security of lives and properties in Nigeria.

The current Commandant General of NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Mohammadu however charged his men to give their all for their country and assuring them that history will not forget their selfless service they gave to their mother land.

Moghalu: Govt Can’t Protect Lives Of Its Citizens But Tries To Suppress #endsars Protesters

This government can't protect the lives of its citizens but spends all its energy attempting to suppress #endsars peaceful protesters - Moghalu

Former Presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu has blasted the Buhari-led adminstration over the killing of 43 farmers by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state, IgbereTV reports.

In tweets he shared, the economist expressed fear of Nigeria becoming a failed state. He also said that ''a government which can’t protect the lives of its citizens, spends all its energy attempting to suppress #endsars peaceful protesters.''

Moghalu wrote;

“The barbaric beheading of 43 Nigerians in Zabarmari village in Borno State by Boko Haram is a national outrage and tragedy. It’s increasingly clear that @NigeriaGov is unable to protect the lives of Nigerians. What does that mean? Our country is becoming a failed state."

“It is a travesty that a government that can’t protect the lives of its citizens spends all its energy attempting to suppress #endsars peaceful protesters, freezing their bank accounts and bringing spurious legal charges."

”Our government and our Central Bank call peaceful citizens financiers of terrorism” while the real terrorists are having a field day with Nigerian lives and no one apparently can stop them and their real financiers. It is a national shame."
https://twitter.com/MoghaluKin....gsley/status/1333086

“The real challenge we face: Can Nigeria survive until 2023 without a massive implosion? #nosecurity #noeconomy. What’s left? #restructuring."

The three convicts were said to have collected a ransom of N1m for the released of their victims.

Seven persons including a couple were initially arraigned for the kidnapping of the Reverend Sisters.

They were Reuben Akinbehinje (a.k.a Chairman), Saheed Oyewo (a.k.a Olaoluwa), Seun Lajuwomi (a.k.a Ebile), Abimbola Akinbehinje , John Imoleayo Uche (a.k.a Uchenna), Seun Iseoluwa Akintan (a.k.a Egbegbe) and Lateef Fayemi Hammed.

An eight count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery, aiding and abetting kidnapping and accessory after the fact were preferred against them.

The accused persons were said to have kidnapped and held their victims’ hostage for 11 days in the bush until the ransom was paid.

A DSS official who testified during trial, Johnson Siunu, said the kidnappers were tracked and arrested through the phone number they used to negotiate and monitor the delivery of ransom payment.

Saheed however died in prison while Abimbola Akinbehinje, wife of Reuben, who was charged of being an accessory after the fact was fined N50, 000.

Company Worker Arrested For Threatening To Kill Promoted Colleague, Children

The police have arrested one Peter Okoro, an official of a motorbike assemblage company in Lagos, for allegedly sending a threat message to the Financial Controller of the firm, Mrs Grace Ejeh.

Okoro, who is the union chairman in the company, reportedly asked Ejeh to resign within three weeks or risk being killed together with her two children.

Sunday PUNCH learnt that Okoro sent the threat message on November 7, 2020 – three days after Ejeh was promoted to her new position from Assistant Financial Controller.

In the message, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent, Okoro boasted that he only needed three bullets to ‘finish’ Eje and her “two kids,” but said he didn’t want to spill blood provided she vacated the office within three weeks.

The text read in part, “I have been following u (you) right from ur (your) house. I also follow ur (your) kids to school on a daily basis, but I don’t want to waste my bullet on any of u (you).

I can equally pour u (you) acid and allow u (you) to die slowly but I will not; better leave (name of the company withheld) and stay away from ur (your) house. Don’t even border (sic) to find me or trace me because u (you) will regret it. A word is enough for the wise; don’t be smart….Be warned.”

Ejeh told our correspondent that the threat left her and her children traumatised, adding that the case was reported to the police at Area G, Ogba.

Detectives were said to have traced the phone number used for sending the message to Okoro and he was arrested on Thursday, November 21.

She said, “Since then, life has been so traumatic. My children are still young. Mistakenly I had a discussion about it in their presence. They are scared to go into the bathroom. I was told to leave my house and my children had to be stopped from going to school. It has been very traumatic.

Initially, the suspect, who happens to be the union chairman in the company, confessed that the message was sent through his mobile phone. But he claimed somebody must have used the phone to send the SMS when he left it in the union office where he was charging it. He later owned up that he sent the message.

“There is an ongoing negotiation with the union on retrenchment. Until a few weeks back, I was the Assistant Financial Controller. The redundancy exercise started with the expatriates. My immediate boss who is an expatriate was affected.

The policy of the company is that a Black person can’t be the Financial Controller. So, his exit did not preempt anything until recently when some of the directors called all the heads of department, announced my boss’ exit and told them that for the first time, they would not replace him with an expatriate. They told the HoDs that I would step in as the Financial Controller. The announcement was made on a Wednesday and I received the SMS on Saturday (that weekend).”

Okoro was arraigned on Wednesday on two counts bordering on threat to life and was remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending when he would perfect his bail conditions.

The case was adjourned till January 19, 2020

Driver Finds His Kidnapper Among Passengers In Sokoto

There was a drama at the Kwannawa motor park in Dange-Shuni local government area of Sokoto state on Sunday as a commercial driver identified one of his abductors amongst his passengers.

The driver (name withheld) was kidnapped along Kankara in Katsina state while returning from Kano about two months ago.

Daily Trust learnt that the driver had spent three weeks in captivity before his release after the payment of an undisclosed amount of money as ransom.

The suspect met his waterloo, when he boarded a vehicle going to Kano, unknown to him, it was the same vehicle ‘they blocked and kidnapped its driver.’

“The driver was quick to identify him because the incident happened not too long ago.

” After identifying him, he alerted our leaders who in turn informed the nearest police outpost,” one of the NURTW members told Daily Trust.

It was said that the leaders had changed the driver of the vehicle with another person after the car was loaded with passengers and the new driver started driving the car towards Shuni town.

It was gathered that the car was blocked by the police who arrested the suspect and took him to their office.

While being interrogated, he (the suspect) was said to have admitted belonging to a gang of kidnappers who fondly called him ‘Hadari’ and this was later corroborated by the driver when invited for questioning.

“The police were surprised when the driver told them the name because he was not around during the interrogation,” our source added.

It was said that the suspect was later transferred to the Sokoto State Police Command headquarters for further investigation.

The spokesman of the Command, DSP Muhammad Sadiq while confirming the incident, said investigation was still ongoing.
