Buhari Commissions Waltersmith Modular Refinery In Ibigwe, Imo State

This afternoon I virtually commissioned the 5,000 barrels per day Waltersmith Modular Refinery in Ibigwe, Imo State, in fulfillment of our Refinery Roadmap. I am pleased to note that work is now commencing on expansion of the capacity of the refinery to 50,000 barrels per day.

We rolled out our administration’s Refinery Roadmap in 2018, with the ultimate goal of making Nigeria a net exporter of petroleum products. The Roadmap has four key elements, namely, Rehabiliation of existing refineries, Greenfield Refineries, Co-location & Modular Refining.

I am delighted that the Waltersmith Refinery is coming on-stream within two years of the commencement of the Roadmap, and after many years of granting licenses for the establishment of modular refineries with nothing to show for it.

2023: Buhari Should Be Wary Of People Trying To Market Tinubu ― Bode George

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George has urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to fall for those who would eclipse the main issue wracking Lagos State in a needless, solicitous self immersed scheming in partisan engagement.

Bode George also advises former Governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande not to engage in fruitless pleading sessions for a man who is fixated on a warped pipe-dream about governing Nigeria.

“The visit of Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Dr Yomi Finnih, and Chief Segun Osoba to the seat of power in Abuja is needless, unnecessary, veiled in some poorly hidden agenda that is woven in apparently self-serving ulterior personalised desperation.

It is easy to discern that the visit is stripped of any patriotic progression, lacking in balanced national leadership, voided of a spirit of sacrifice and developmental vision. The very absence of Bola Tinubu from the jamboree screams to high heavens that the meeting itself is a covert placatory softening of the ground for Tinubu himself. I am pretty certain that in his very absence, Tinubu occupies the centrality of the discussion.

Bode George, who is Atona Oodua of Yorubaland in his message titled, “The jamboree visit to the Villa: My Birthday Offering.” said that the very pivot of the Lagosian malady is the reckless, irresponsible misappropriation of the Lagosian commonwealth by Tinubu.

“This much I have documented in several public interventions. This, I may add, contributed to the heightened scale of the disgruntlement and the anger of the youths who made the Lekki Tollgates the very symbol of their rejection of the politics of subjugation.

“I will advise Baba Akande who governed Osun State with principled, incorruptible leadership to kindly help us drop off Bola Tinubu at Iragbiji as he makes his way back to Ila-Orangun, rather than engaging in fruitless pleading sessions for a man who is fixated on a warped pipe-dream about governing Nigeria. He should pay restitution for the egregious stripping of the Lagosian coffers.”

Roads: 5 States To Get N148bn Refund As Senate Approves Buhari's Request

Five Nigerian states will get a refund of over one hundred and forty-eight billon naira (N148,141,969,161.24) for road projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government.

This was as the Senate on Tuesday, November 24 approved President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for a refund of the said sum to the affected states.

Igbere TV gathers the five states to include, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Osun and Ondo. The money will be refunded to the coffers of the states government.

The approval was sequel to the consideration of a report by the Committee on Local and Foreign Debts Chaired by Senator Clifford Ordia (PDP, Edo Central).

Ordia in his presentation stated that most of the Federal highways in the beneficiary states where said projects were executed “were at a deplorable state before the intervention of the state governments.”

According to him, “series of visits were carried out by the Federal Ministry it Works and Housing on all Federal Roads completed by the States and ascertained that the quality off work done met the required standard.”

The lawmaker however noted that states like Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa and Ondo States embarked on the highway projects execution as far back as 2005 to date.

He added that while the State Governments have completed all projects, as well as paid all contractors, the Federal Bureau of Procurement on its part certified that due process was followed accordingly.

Nigeria Not Included In $15,000 Visa Bond Pilot – US Mission

The United States Mission has said Nigeria is not included in the US’ pilot visa bond programme.

The US Mission in Nigeria made this known in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

The outgoing administration of US President Donald Trump had issued a new temporary rule for African tourists.

The new rule could require tourist and business travellers from some countries, most in Africa, to pay a bond of as much as $15,000 to visit the United States.

The US State Department said the temporary final rule, which takes effect December 24 and runs through June 24, targets countries whose nationals have higher rates of overstaying B-2 visas for tourists and B-1 visas for business travelers.

The statement read, “In response to the April 2019 Presidential Memorandum on Combating High Nonimmigrant Overstay Rates, the Department and our embassies and consulates overseas conducted an in-depth analysis to identify and address root causes of overstays.

“Among other efforts to address this challenge, the State Department is considering additional steps to address overstays, including piloting a limited visa bonds program to test, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, the operational feasibility of posting, processing, and discharging visa bonds as means to ensure the timely departure from the United States of certain travelers.

“Accordingly, the State Department will begin a limited six-month visa bond pilot program beginning on December 24, 2020.

“We are committed to combating visa overstays and making sure travelers to the United States respect our laws.

“The implementation of this pilot builds on our engagement with foreign governments in recent years and will ensure continued progress to reduce overstay rates. Nigeria is not included in this six months pilot program.”
