The Federal Government on Friday offered leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities N65 billion for Earned Academic Allowance and revitalisation.

The government also agreed to pay the striking lecturers through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System) until ASUU’s University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) was ready for usage.

These are some of the agreements reached at the resumed meeting between the leadership of ASUU and the federal government team on Friday.

At the end of the seven- hour meeting, Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige told reporters that the Accountant-General of the Federation ( AGF) has offered to release N40 billion or in the alternative, N35 billion to be shared by all the registered Trade Unions in the universities after providing necessary evidence of having earned the allowance.

“The FG reiterated that her offer of N40 billion or 35 billion whichever is accepted by ASUU was for all the universities unions: ASUU had proposed that N40 billion be paid immediately for all unions ,” the Minister said.

Ngige said all vice-chancellors are to submit details of the EAA/EA to the National Universities Commission (NUC) on or before November 30.

Speaking on the issue of withheld salaries, Ngige said the Federal Ministry of Labour and Federal Ministry of Education will review the issue of “no work, no pay” as stipulated in Section 43 of the Trade Disputes Act Cap T8 laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004 with a view to getting approval for the withheld salaries to be paid.

Vincent Enyeama urges Senator Kalu to invest in Enyimba instead of Arsenal

Ex-Super Eagles skipper Vincent Enyeama has urged Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to rechannel his proposed investment 35% shares in Arsenal to the local club, Enyimba Football Club of Aba.

The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial Constituency had announced his intention to become a major shareholder of the Gunners and help provide the funds that would see the Londoners become Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners.

Orji Uzor Kalu was the governor when Enyimba International of Aba won back-to-back Nigeria Premier Football League and CAF Champions League titles in the earlier 2000s.

The billionaire is looking to repeat that incredible feat with Arsenal Football Club.

But Enyeama, arguably Nigeria’s greatest goalkeeper in history, wants Sen. Kalu to direct his attention at his country home’s beloved club, Enyimba, and turn it into Nigeria’s first-ever mega club.

“Why not invest that money in Enyimba and turn it into a mega-club,” the former Enyimba stalwart wrote on Twitter.

“A club that will bring in a lot of sponsors and create job opportunities for the youth.

“Nigeria has no mega-club side that we can boast of.

“(But) what do I know. My mouth keeps putting me into trouble.”

Donald Trump Junior And Andrew Giuliani Test Positive For Coronavirus

Andrew Guiliani is the Son of Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump's Lawyer who is spear heading the legal case against the Election of President-Elect Joseph (Joe) Bidden.

Donald Trump Jr., the president's eldest son, tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this week, a spokesman confirmed to The Hill on Friday.

The spokesperson said in a statement that Trump Jr. tested positive "at the start of the week" and has been quarantining. He's been asymptomatic since his diagnosis and is "following all medically recommended COVID-19 guidelines."

Trump Jr. is just the latest person in the president's orbit to be infected by the coronavirus. News of his diagnosis came hours after Andrew Giuliani, Rudy Giuliani's son and a White House staffer, announced that he had tested positive for the virus.

The White House has already faced a number of outbreaks since the start of the pandemic, with the president, the first lady, the press secretary, the chiefs of staff to both the president and the vice president and senior advisers Stephen Miller and Hope Hicks, among others, contracting the virus at different times.

The newest diagnoses come amid an alarming national spike in cases. The number of new cases reported each day routinely surpasses 150,000, and the U.S. tallied 2,015 new coronavirus deaths Thursday, marking the first time the country has hit more than 2,000 daily deaths since May.

Experts have warned that the latest outbreak could be exacerbated during the coming winter months when social events move to indoor settings where the virus can be more easily spread.

Trump Jr., echoing language used by other allies of the president, has downplayed the extent of the coronavirus outbreak, saying late last month that deaths are "almost nothing."

"We've gotten control of this, we understand how it works, they have the therapeutics to be able to deal with this," he said on Fox News shortly before the election.

Trump Jr. was a regular figure on the campaign trail for Republicans this year. His girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, tested positive for COVID-19 in early July.

Trump Accuses Pfizer, Others of Working Against His Re-Election Which He "Won"

The US President, Donald Trump has accused leading drugmaker, Pfizer and "bigpharma" of running millions of dollars of negative ads against him, as well as delaying on delivering the vaccines in time before the elections which he eventually "won" .

It was reported earlier this month (after the US election) that leading biopharmaceutical Company, Pfizer and BioNTech had rolled out a Vaccine which early data show to be 90% effective against COVID-19.

Moderna followed suit with early projection showing a 94.5% effective rate against COVID-19.

President Donald Trump returned to the White House briefing room for the first time since the elections – and once again claimed he 'won' despite trialing Joe Biden by millions of votes, as he attacked a pharmaceutical giant of conspiring to defeat him.

He also attacked Pfizer and 'Big Pharma' – although he misstated the name of the the company that announced a big vaccine breakthrough after the election .

'Big pharma ran millions of dollars of negative advertisements against me during the campaign – which I won, by the way, but you know, we'll find that out. Almost 74 million votes,' Trump said.

President Donald Trump speaks on lowering prescription drug prices on November 20, 2020, in the Brady Briefing Room
President-elect Joe Biden got nearly 80 million votes – more than Trump.

'We had big pharma against us. We had the media against us. We had big tech against us. We had dishonesty against us,' Trump fumed.

Trump accused drug companies of holding out until the elections, without providing evidence.

'So they waited and waited and waited and they thought they'd come out of it a few days after the election. And it would have probably had an impact. Who knows probably it wouldn't have,' he said.

'Sure the Democrats would have found the ballots someplace,' he theorized – alluding to his claims of a 'rigged' election .

'These corrupt games will not deter us from doing what is right for the American people,' Trump said.

Trump appeared to say 'FISA' instead of Pfizer, in reference to a secret surveillance court that is a fixation of his in light of the Russia probe.

'FISA (Pfizer) and others, who are way ahead on vaccines,' he said.

FIsa and others even decided to not assess the results of their vaccine, in other words not come out with a vaccine until just after the election.'

He claimed it was because of what he had done on drug prices.

He said: 'I've been loyal to the special interests' in an another apparent flub.

Even after leveling the charges that one of the nation's top drug companies tried to harm him politically even while its execs say it tried to rush its product through the process to save lives, Trump refused to take questions.

Instead, he walked off after making an opening statement – leaving it to officials like CMS head Seema Mehta to continue onward.

That came despite Trump taking to Twitter to hype a 'press conference' just 15 minutes before its start time.

Trump's dramatic accusations came shortly before he was to meet with the Republican leaders of the Michigan House and Senate. Trump and his team are desperate for a way to overturn Biden's 150,000 vote lead, and are searching for a way to have the legislature certify Trump electors.

Earlier in the day, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany held her own press conference, where she took just a handful of questions – and claimed Trump's meeting with top Michigan Republican legislators was not an 'advocacy' meeting.

APC Governors Swoop On Jonathan Ahead Of 2023 Elections

Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a private meeting with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Friday evening, TheCable can report.

No single member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was present.

Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe state and acting national chairman of the APC, led the governors to Jonathan’s residence in Abuja.

David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi who recently defected to the APC from the PDP; Atiku Bagudu, governor of Kebbi and chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum; and Abubakar Badaru, governor of Jigawa, were at the meeting, TheCable was informed.

Also in the team was Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, former presidential liaison officer to the national assembly.

It is unclear what the focus of their discussion was but an insider told TheCable “2023 permutations are taking shape”.

Jonathan was elected president in 2011 and lost to Buhari in 2015, but he is still qualified to run having only spent one term of four years in office.

Coincidentally, Jonathan hosted the duo of Badaru and Bagudu at his Otuoke residence in Bayelsa a year ago.

The governors had visited Jonathan to thank him for his support in the victory of David Lyon, the APC candidate in the 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa.

Lyon was eventually sacked by the supreme court while Douye Diri of the PDP was declared winner of the election.

On Friday, APC leaders, including Ken Nnamani, a former senate president, visited Jonathan in commemoration of his 63rd birthday.

They held a private meeting with the ex-president during the visit which held after the Northern Governors’ Forum congratulated Jonathan on his birthday.

The Northern Governors Forum had sent warm felicitations to Jonathan on his birthday.

In a statement, Simon Lalong, chairman of the forum and governor of Plateau, said the former president has continued to serve the country with zeal and commitment.

He described Jonathan as a true democrat whose “passion for the growth of democracy is reflected not only in his records while in office but also of his current engagements where he has travelled round the world to monitor elections and also engage with stakeholders”.

Lalong also saluted the former president’s patriotism and dedication to the unity, peace and development of Nigeria as well as offering counsel on various issues.

He asked him to remain focused on his life of service that has brought honour and goodwill to Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier felicitated with Jonathan, saying he has brought honour to Nigeria.

SARS Victim Presents Photo Of Officer Who Paralysed Him

A 34-year-old trader, Mr Ndukwe Ekekwe, allegedly paralysed by officers of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on Friday presented before a Lagos judicial panel of inquiry, a photograph of one of the officers allegedly responsible for his paralysis.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trader presented the photograph of one Haruna Hamza while being cross-examined at the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry for Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters.

Responding to questions from Mr Emmanuel Eze, counsel for the police, Ekekwe narrated how he obtained the photograph.

“I have his (Hamza’s) contact. When this (paralysis) happened to me, I prayed that God should help me. I went online and I saw his status on WhatsApp and I took a photograph of his photo.

“The contact from which I got his photograph is 07060712007. He gave it to me before I was taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH),” Ekekwe said.

NAN reports that Ekekwe had on Nov. 3 told the panel that he was paralysed when he was thrown from a two-storey building at the Alaba International Market by SARS.

The trader told the panel on Friday that Hamza was a member of the SARS team which arrested him at Alaba International Market and took him to SARS office in Ikeja.

He alleged that after his arrest, his teeth were broken when he was tortured by the team at SARS office.

He said that he had yet to be told the crime he committed.

Ekekwe said that he properly identified Hamza.

“This is the policeman, the devil that made me like this. Nothing will make me forget him,” he said.

The Chairman of the panel, retired Justice Doris Okuwobi, admitted the photograph in evidence.

“The photograph of a fair-skinned man wearing a cap is admitted into evidence as Exhibit F, ” she said.

The petitioner told the panel that he could identify the SARS office in Ikeja where he was allegedly detained.

“When they came to my shop, SARS was written at the back of their shirts. It was officers in uniform that took me there.

“I do not know how to describe their station but I can identify the place,” he said.

Ekekwe said that he was arrested in his shop by SARS on Feb. 16, 2018, and spent two days in police custody.

“I was arrested around 2p.m. and taken back to the shop the next day in the evening.

“When I was arrested, I was handcuffed on one hand, when the police took me back to my shop, I was handcuffed on both hands.

“I was shouting and alerting people when they broke into my shop and tried to sell off my goods. The commander told two of them to take me upstairs.

“When I was taken upstairs,

they pushed me from my shop building. This was around 8p.m. I couldn’t see the officer who pushed me,” he said.

Following the allegation, Eze requested for a 20-minute stand-down (break) in order to consult the other members of the police legal team.

Eze’s request was granted by the panel.

However, when the panel reconvened after the break, the police counsel requested for a short adjournment of the proceedings.

He said that the team was unable to get in touch with some officers of the disbanded SARS.

“We are in the process of getting there, the phone number that the petitioner provided did not go through.

“In the overall interest of justice, we apply for this adjournment,” Eze said.

Responding, Okuwobi expressed dissatisfaction at the slow pace at which the police were handling the case.

She said that Ezekwe’s petition was just one of over 100 petitions being handled by the panel.

“If this panel is taking baby steps, it will not be able to do its assignment within the six months.

“I am constrained to allow this adjournment in the interest of justice.

“This hearing is adjourned to Dec. 1,” she said.
