Emma Ugolee: "Since My Kidneys Failed, Still Standing After About A Decade"

Media personality Emma Ugolee, whose kidneys failed about 10 years ago, took to Instagram to recount his journey while expressing gratitude that he survived what has killed many people, IgbereTV reports.

He explained that he has had 22 surgeries and one failed transplant since both kidneys failed. He has also had to endure 1, 296 sessions of dialysis and four 911 rides. Yet, he's still standing.

Sharing a photo of himself with tubes sticking out of his body and another photo of him smiling, he wrote:

"Look who is standing. Standing after about a decade since both kidneys failed.

After a failed transplant and 22 surgeries of all sorts, from the thighs to the eyes. With several cuts and scars

After four 911 rides and several near strolls to the other side.

After over 10 hospitals in 4 countries.

After 1,296.00 sessions of dialysis

After a colon cancer scare

After disappointments from men.

After almost a million dollars

After bouts of depression

Yes! Guess who is still standing?
Standing healthier, standing stronger, standing wiser, standing more hopeful and zesty than ever.
Doing everything he sets his mind to and making all his dreams come true

In the same journey where the graves have claimed many, on a day like this when everyone is grateful. I look back and then I look up and say Thank you Jehovah.

Look too at your journey and see that you too have every reason to salute the soldier in you. Keep fighting.

NB:Grateful to all of you for the support here.

TETFund Gives N12bn Grant To 12 Universities To Pioneer Researches

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), has enlisted 12 Nigerian universities as pioneer centres of excellence to spearhead research and development program that would contribute to national growth.

The universities include University of Abuja(UNIABUJA), University of Benin(UNIBEN), University of Ibadan (UI), University of Maiduguri (UNIMAD), Bayero University Kano (BUK), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Akwa, University of Uyo (UNIUYO), and the Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

The others are University of Jos (UNIJOS), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) and Uthman Danfodio University, Sokoto.

TETFund Executive Secretary, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro presenting allocation letters and guidelines to Vice-Chancellors of the universities, said the Federal Government graciously approved N1billion as take-off grant for each of the universities, totalling N12billion.

Prof. Bogoro said the aim for establishing the centres of excellence is to support strategic and application-oriented research and expertise with potential industrial applications.

He said the universities are also expected to bring together the complementary resources needed for technical development and industrial application.

According to him, “This includes concentrating multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and translational research competence in order to further the development of products, processes and services, typically by focusing on problems that demand larger efforts than can be provided by smaller projects.’’

“Bridging the gap between researchers and users, stimulating and strengthening triple-helix relationships. This is in order to enhance scientific research being patronized by industry, and in order to make the tertiary educational institutions generally more responsive to industry needs,’’ Prof. Suleiman Bogoro said.

“In addition is expertise development and training at doctorate level in areas of industry interest, and the development of knowledge management platforms and innovation hubs, “Bogoro stated in the terms of reference.

The terms of reference state that within a five year period, the University of Abuja is expected to blaze the trail as the centre of excellence in public governance and leadership.

Also, the University of Jos and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University are expected to churn out research in food security, while the University of Maiduguri would focus on arid zone research and development and Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto to concentrate on urology and nephrology.

While, Bayero University Kano would focus on renewable energy, Micheal Okpara University to focus on root crop research and development, Nnamdi Azikiwe University to dwell on agricultural and engineering translational studies.

Others are University of Benin, aquaculture and food technology, University of Uyo, in computational intelligence, University of Ibadan, in multi-disciplinary studies and the University of Lagos in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management.

Nigeria Approaches UK Over Proposed #endsars Sanctions.

The Federal Government, yesterday, said it was in touch with officials of the British government to present its side of the #endsars story.

This comes after the resolution of the United Kingdom Parliament to impose sanctions on some Nigerian officials over their role in the “violent suppression” of the protests.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, told State House correspondents at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja that it was not within the purview of the legislators to impose restrictions but added that it was necessary to espouse Nigeria’s position for an informed decision.

He said: “The UK government has been briefed. There was a UK parliamentarian meeting and the UK government, which acts for the United Kingdom, has also heard the side of the (Nigerian) government regarding everything that has happened.

“So, we have been in touch with them and engaging them. As in every democracy, members of parliament are also able to air their views.

“What is important is that a balanced picture is made available to them before they take any decision.”

It added: “We also call on other countries, including United States, France, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa, to impose similar sanctions against indicted officials of the Buhari administration for human rights violations and crime against humanity.”

Half Of CBN Looting: Gowon Denies Allegation Says 'It Is Rubbish'

"What The MP Said Is Rubbish"- Gowon Denies Fleeing Nigeria With ''Half of Central Bank"

‘It’s rubbish’ — Gowon reacts to accusation of looting half of central bank

Yakubu Gowon, a former military head of state, has described allegations that he looted half of the Central Bank of Nigeria as “rubbish”.

Tom Tugendhat, a member of the United Kingdom parliament, had accused Gowon of looting Nigeria’s treasury when he left office.

Speaking at the UK parliament committee debate on a petition on the #endsars crisis, Tugendhat had urged the UK to call out corruption and use its powers to stop who profit from Nigeria’s wealth and hide it in foreign countries.

“Some people will remember when General Gowon left Nigeria with half of the Central Bank, so it is said, and moved to London,” he said.

However, Tugendhat did not provide any evidence to support his claim.

In reaction to the remark, Gowon told BBC: “I don’t know where he got that rubbish from, I served Nigeria diligently and my records are there for all to see”.

“What the MP said was just mere ridicule and I don’t know as to where he cooked up such statement. I served Nigeria as much as I could and my achievements during those years are available to everyone.

“I don’t want to talk over the matter since those who know me very well say that the MP’s statement is nothing but a mere fallacy”.

Gowon was Nigeria’s military head of state from 1966 to 1975, including during the time of the oil boom.

After leaving power in 1975, Gowon went to the UK to study political science and international relations as an undergraduate at Warwick University.

Several people including Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfD, have reacted to the claim vouching for Gowon’s integrity.

Adesina Dismisses Accusations Against Gowon

Akinwunmi Adesina extols Gowon in defence to UK MP's allegation of CBN looting during his reign.

Akinwunmi Adesina has shared his thoughts about the raging controversy surrounding General Yakubu Gowon.

It is no longer news he has been accused by a British MP of being behind, arguably, the greatest theft of public funds ever witnessed by the country. But in his opinion, Adesina advised that people be circumspect in believing what has been said about the former Commander in Chief.

He shared his thoughts on via twitter thus:

Be careful of misinformation! H.E. General Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria’s former Head of State, is a man of great honour, decency, honesty, amazing simplicity, humility and integrity. I know him. A great and admirable elder statesman of Nigeria. His honesty and integrity are impeccable.

APC Condemns Amaechi’s Absence At South-South Meeting

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, has attacked the Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi over his absence at the Southsouth stakeholders’ meeting with the President Muhammadu Buhari’s delegation.

The Igo Aguma-led party said that the minister was at the Port Harcourt airport to receive the Presidential delegation, escorted them to the Government House, and disappeared.

The Federal Government held a meeting in the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

The absence of Amaechi, a former Governor of Rivers State, drew the ire of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, saying the Transportation Minister cannot justify his absence, which it described as “unfortunate.”

According to a statement by Livingston Wechie, the media adviser to its Caretaker Committee Chairman, Igo Aguma, the party demanded that Amaechi should tender an apology to the people of Rivers State and his party for his “embarrassing action.”

The statement added, “We condemn the absence of Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of Transportation from the Southsouth Stakeholders meeting with the Presidency which held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.”

The APC wondered why Amaechi was never part of such a crucial stakeholders’ meeting that has to do with the Southsouth geopolitical zone.

“The absence of the minister of Transportation, who is supposed to be the minister representing Rivers State in the federal cabinet is most unfortunate as there can be no justification for his non-participation.

“The action of Amaechi is an evidence of the type of divisive and selfish leadership he is giving the APC in the state which is solely aimed at destroying the party at all cost for his personal gain in keeping with his vows,” he said.

The meeting had in attendance most presidential appointees from the region and elected representatives.

Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Chief of Staff to the President, led the presidential delegation comprising ministers from the South-South.
