FG May Reverse Fuel Pump Price To N160 Per Litre, Negotiations Continue Dec 7

The pressure by organised Labour on the Federal Government to reverse the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) back to N160 per litre seems to be yielding fruits.

At the end of the resumed negotiations between government and the labour movement yesterday night, the Federal Government indicated willingness to consult widely with the view to reviewing the price downward, saying it might unveil the new price at the resumed meeting slated for December 7.

The Federal Government said the period between now and then would allow it embark on a wide range consultation over Labour’s request.

Labour is insisting that the pump price must be reviewed downward to N160 before negotiations can proceed on the hike in electricity tariffs and deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.

Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who disclosed this at the end of the latest meeting between the Federal Government and organised Labour on the recent increases in the pump price of petrol and electricity tariff, added that the meeting agreed to let the government side consult with their principal and every relevant authority on the request of the Labour

He stated: “The message from the organised Labour is clear; they want a reversal of the pump price of PMS. The parties have agreed to let the government side consult their principal on that. We will consult the President, minister of Petroleum and the Economic Management Team.”

The minister noted that though it was no longer the responsibility of government to fix the pump price of PMS as it had been deregulated, the matter still fell within the realm of the economy.

On the issue of the electricity tariff, Ngige said the committee working on it, headed by the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, already had an interim report and would use the opportunity created by the adjournment of the meeting to undertake field visits to the different Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria and come back with a more comprehensive report.

Earlier at the start of the meeting, Ngige had stated that nobody was immune from the effect of the increase of both the pump price of PMS and electricity tariff, but stated that conversations on the issues should be handled with caution in order not to grind the economy to a halt.

Also speaking, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, assured the organised Labour that every decision of government would always be based on the welfare and wellbeing of the people of Nigeria.

“I believe that working together with you, crafting agreements and negotiating terms, would all be done with an overarching interest of the people of Nigeria as the centre- piece.”

President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Quadri Olaleye, on behalf of the Labour, asked for sincerity of purpose and open-mindedness from the government side.

He added: “We want to reach an agreement that would move the country forward and especially satisfy the expectations of Nigerian workers.”

ASUU Agrees To Call Off Strike, To Receive N70bn

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has agreed to call of its eight-month strike which has grounded academic activities in the public universities.

The union leadership reached the consensus during a meeting with the government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja, on Friday.

The government also pledged to pay N40 billion as the Earned Allowance and N30bn for the revitalisation of the university system bringing the total payment to N70 billion.

The FG further agreed to settle the arrears of salaries of the lecturers before December 31.

This is happening one week after the Federal Government accepted the demand by the ASUU that they be exempted from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System pending the approval of their proposed payment system, the University Transparency and Accountability Solution.

ASUU is expected to report the agreement to its organs and then communicate their decision to the government after which a date for the calling off of the strike would be announced.

A source informed our correspondent that ASUU insisted that the agreement should not be announced until it has been approved by its members.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ngige said the parley was fruitful, adding that the government made a proposal to ASUU which it would take back to its members.

He said, “Many issues were discussed at the meeting including salary shortfall, the payment system and revitalisation of the university system. I am positive that all the issues would be resolved at our next meeting.”

The ASUU President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, simply said everything Ngige said was correct and declined further comment.

Sanwo-Olu Inagurates Secretariat, Capital Projects In Agboyi-Ketu, Apapa-Igamu

SANWO-OLU INAUGURATES NEW SECRETARIATS, CAPITAL PROJECTS IN AGBOYI-KETU, APAPA-IGANMU LCDA’S

… As Councils Name Buildings After Tinubu, Late Sen. Osinowo

#foragreaterlagos

@jidesanwoolu @DeleOsinowo

A new governance experience beckons in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Apapa-Iganmu LCDA in Lagos State, as the two councils completed new administrative secretariats to scale up service delivery.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated each of the three-storey buildings on Friday, in separate ceremonies held in the two councils’ headquarters.

Scores of jubilant residents trooped out in both councils to receive the Governor and his entourage, which comprised the Deputy Governor, members of State Executive Council, and political leaders led by All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Lagos, Hon. Tunde Balogun.

Asides commissioning of the 28-room secretariat complex in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA named after the late @SenatorOsinowo, who represented Lagos East Senatorial District in the Senate until his demise last June, the council headquarters in Alapere literally became a campaign ground.

@jidesanwoolu canvassed support for the APC candidates in the forthcoming by-elections in the East senatorial district and State Assembly seat in Kosofe II Constituency, Mr. @TokunboAbiru and Hon. @FemiSaheed3.

@OfficialAPCNg https:///YnuYR4KHkQWhile commissioning the buildings, the Governor hailed the council chairmen, Hon. @DeleOsinowo (Agboyi-Ketu) and Dr. Funmilayo Akande-Mohammed (Apapa-Iganmu), describing the initiatives as “symbolic strides” that would bring good governance close to the grassroots and strengthen the capacity of the councils to deliver on their mandates to residents.

Sanwo-Olu said the decision of the council leadership in Agboyi-Ketu to name the edifice after the late Sen. Osinowo testified to the immeasurable contribution made by the late lawmaker to the development of the council.

The Governor paid glowing tribute in memory of the late Osinowo, whom he described as “grassroots progressive and benevolent politician” in his lifetime.

The Governor said: “The completion of this new 28-room Administrative Block constructed by Agboyi-Ketu LCDA is not only historic, it is unique and symbolic, because it is the first stride to immortalise a great man, a progressive and grassroots politician, @SenatorOsinowo, who passed away in June. Also, I sincerely congratulate and commend the Apapa-Iganmu LCDA chairman, Hon. Funmilayo Akande Muhammed and her team for the laudable achievement of delivering a modern secretariat complex in the council.

“I have no doubt that these new complexes will provide the much-needed conducive work environment for public servants working in the councils and enhance their productivity and better service delivery. "While projects such as these are really a commendable initiative, as they will have a great impact on the workforce at large; it is important to emphasise the need for all of us to understand that public infrastructure are part of our commonwealth being provided with public funds. We must safeguard them against vandalism, as witnessed in the State in the past couple of weeks ago.”

Sanwo-Olu used the occasion to reel out his administration’s programmes targeted at driving development at the grassroots, pointing out that his Government had supported the physically-challenged and provided low-interest loans to support thousands of women across the State.

He cautioned youths against willful destruction of Government’s assets and infrastructure built with public funds, saying the recent EndSARS protests brought out the need for Governments at all levels to double their efforts and prioritise youth development and empowerment.

The Governor disclosed that the State Government was about to commence a Graduate Internship Programme, under which 4,000 young graduates would be engaged training and paid N40,000 monthly stipend for six months.

He urged local councils, as the independent tier of Government closest to the people, to embark on welfare projects in their communities and give people a new feeling of governance.

He said: “As we prepare for a new fiscal year, let us ensure
that adequate plans are put in place to, more than
the current year, ensure that the welfare of our
young people, women, elderly and the physically-
challenged are well catered for. At the State level,
we have made special provision for youth capacity
development in the 2021 budget.

“This is in addition to the ongoing youth empowerment programmes, including the Graduate Internship Programme under which 4,000 thousand young graduates would be engaged and paid a monthly stipend of N40,000 for 6 months.

”Agboyi-Ketu LCDA chairman, Osinowo, said the inauguration of the new secretariat would enhance the capacity of the council to bring dividends of democracy to people at the grassroots. He said the council took the decision to immortalise the late lawmaker, given his legacy and impact in the locality.

He said: “The edifice is massive to herald a new beginning in our administration’s quest not only to improve the landscape and aesthetics of community, but also boost our drive to deliver governance at the grassroots. The building is constructed to provide a conducive and enabling environment for our public servants and the residents to interface.

“The decision to name the edifice after the late Senator Adebayo Osinowo was taken by the distinguished members of the Agboyi-Ketu legislative council during a special plenary session in honour of the late Senator.”

Osinowo hailed Sanwo-Olu for listening to the residents’ request to rehabilitate Demurin/Agidi Road and construct concrete lining in Ogunsombo-Igbonla Channel, among other State Government-led projects in the council.

In addition to inaugurating the new Apapa-Iganmu secretariat complex named after the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Gov. Sanwo-Olu also commissioned 13 newly constructed and rehabilitated roads, a library complex and Primary Health Centre delivered by the council chairman, Dr. Funmilayo Akande-Mohammed.

The Governor urged residents to take ownership of the projects, asking them to protect the infrastructure initiated for their use.

Akande-Mohammed said the projects were part of the deliberate efforts of the Apapa-Iganmu council leadership to drive up socio-economic growth and enhance wellbeing in line with the needs of the residents.

In order to make his administration’s grassroots engagement more robust, Sanwo-Olu, during project commissioning at Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, announced the immediate appointment of Hon. Babatunde Adewale as Special Adviser (non-cabinet) on Community Development.

This announcement was greeted by spontaneous jubilation, with Ijora Badia residents thanking the Governor for the pick.

APC: Goodluck Jonathan Is Working For Buhari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said former president, Goodluck Jonathan, is working for the current government.

The ruling party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, stated this while answering questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.

Nabena also slammed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for not being a worthy opposition.

According to him, Jonathan has been working for the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, because he is a ‘progressive’ statesman.

The visit by some APC chieftains to Jonathan last Friday, who contested in the 2011 and 2015 presidential elections on the platform of the PDP, raised the stakes in permutations for the 2023 general elections.

But Nabena said, “We are not desperate. Goodluck Jonathan has been working for this government, he has been going to all African countries.

“If he is not a progressive person, he won’t have been working for this government.”

EndSARS Protesters Sold Two Policemen’s Skulls For N1,000

The two suspected hoodlums, Adewale Abiodun and Aliu Mubarak, arrested for being in possession of the burnt skulls of the two policemen set ablaze in Ibadan in the wake of the #endsars protest gave the graphic details of how they sold the skulls for N1,000 when paraded on Friday.

Abiodun, 17 and Mubarak, 24, during an interview with journalists at the police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, disclosed that they sold the skulls to an herbalist in their neighbourhood.

The two suspects, alongside the herbalist, Oladipupo Ifakorede, were reportedly arrested at Oluwo area of Ibadan by men of the Quick Intervention Unit of the Oyo State Police Command on Sunday, November 15.

Abiodun said, “On Monday, October 22, Mubarak asked me to follow him to Alabata area in Ibadan, where his wife was staying. We got to Iwo Road and saw that the road had been blocked. Smoke was billowing. When we moved closer to see what was happening, we saw humans being burnt.

“The mob was hitting the burnt bodies with sticks, and started taking the body parts. Mubarak came to me and said he wanted to take some of the body parts. He said he had someone he would sell them to. Mubarak went to take the two skulls.

“We went to the native doctor’s residence in our neighbourhood. After negotiation, the native doctor gave us N500 with the promise to pay the balance of N500. He told us he was not the one who would use them, but that he would take them to a cleric in Ilorin, Kwara State, for ritual purpose.

“After leaving the residence of the native doctor, Mubarak and I went to a restaurant and used the N500 to eat. About 7pm the same day, the native doctor saw me at a junction in our area and gave me N500 balance. Mubarak and I shared the money at N250 each on the third day.”

Mubarak corroborated Abiodun’s confession, saying, “some people in the crowd removed hands, legs, fingers and feet, while others gathered the ashes from the burnt bodies and took them away. I told Abiodun that I would take the skulls.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, said the suspects would soon be arraigned.

Umar Farouq 'Weeps' As Pantami Disgraces Her At FEC Meeting.

Minister Of Humanitarian Affairs, Farouq, Weeps As Communication Minister, Pantami, ‘Disgraces’ Her At Federal Executive Council Meeting

The disagreement between the two ministers, according to a top source, has further confirmed insinuations that there was division among top aides of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq, was on Wednesday involved in a heated argument with her Communications and Digital Economy colleague, Isa Ali Pantami, during the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The disagreement between the two ministers, according to a top source, has further confirmed insinuations that there was division among top aides of President Muhammadu Buhari.

SaharaReporters gathered that trouble started after Pantami presented his ministry's planned activities for approval, which included the mapping and registration of Internally Displaced Persons across the country.

Immediately after the Communication Minister’s submission, a furious Farouq raised her hand to speak and exoress objection to the approval for such activities pending review and approval from her ministry.

It was learnt that the President was inclined to agree with Sadia, considering the supervisory role of Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs on IDPs but Pantami strongly objected to the opposition of Farouq, reminding her of the statutory power and role of the National Identity Management Commision in capturing and registering citizens, IDP or not.

The Communication’s Minister broke the camels back when he flaunted a letter written by his ministry to Farouq’s office on October 15, 2020 with no response a month after.

It was at this point that the President went ahead and approved the memo from Pantami, granting the go ahead from NIMC to capture the IDPs.

SaharaReporters gathered that Farouq, who had always used her closeness to President Buhari to intimidate, manipulate and harass her fellow ministers was humbled.

A source said the minister openly wept immediately after the meeting, accusing Pantami of disgracing her before the President and other colleagues.

“Farouq is very afraid, she has this fear that the capturing is capable of exposing the corruption usually perpetrated in the name of IDPs,” the source said.

Lagos Teacher Beats Student To Death For Not Answering Maths Question Correctly

School Teacher On The Run After Beating His Student To Death In Lagos (Photos)

A Nigerian man, Ridwan Oyewunmi, has called on Nigerians on social media to help him get justice after a school teacher who is currently on the run, allegedly beat his younger brother, Boluwatife Omelaja, to death at a school in Ikorodu, Lagos state on Thursday, November 26, IgbereTV reports.

In a Twitter thread, the distraught brother said the teacher beat Omelaja because he couldn’t answer a question.

His tweets read:

"Twitter NG i just lost my brother to School Teacher Brutality. Mr Emmanuel(frame 1)is a sec school teacher at Elihans college, Ikorodu in Lagos. He beat up my brother Boluwatife Omelaja(frame 2) to death on 26th of November in the school premises because he couldn't answer a math question he was asked correctly.

The school initially made us believe he slumped and died while he was trying to answer the question on the board, a boy who wasn't ill or showed any sign of sickness before.

He was brought home in the school's bus by the school proprietress and principal, along with Mr Emma-whom we didn't know was the killer at that time, and he was buried few hours later according to muslim's doctrine

Meanwhile Bolu's other brother, Lateef Omelaja was prevented from leaving the school premises, in order to prevent him from spreading the true news to us at home and to buy Mr Emma more time to run away.

We believed the rooster and bull story the school fed us not until Lafeef got home at around 5pm and narrated what really happened at the school to us.

We also confirmed this from other students of the school including classmates of Boluwatife.

The painful part is, the school keeps trying to cover up for Mr emma claiming he didn't beat Bolu.

Mr Emma is on the run, nowhere to be found.

I know no amount of punishment for him will bring back my brother but i just want Mr Emma located and justice served."
