The President directed an increase in the number of beneficiaries for the National Social Investment Programmes.

He also directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to increase the number of N-Power beneficiaries from 500,000 to 1,000,000.

President Buhari further directed an increase in the number of beneficiaries of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) by 1,000,000 and increase the beneficiaries of the Home-Grown School Feeding by 5,000,000.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, broke the news on Monday during a ministerial media briefing to give account of her ministry in the last one year in Abuja.

She said: “In a bid to realise Mr. President’s commitment to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years, the ministry places significant emphasis on youth empowerment by strategically ascertaining youth engagement as a foundational objective in implementing the following strategies: double the scope of the National Social Investment Programmes.

“Mr. President has graciously approved the expansion of all NSIP programmes. Such as increase of N-Power beneficiaries from 500,000 to 1,000,000, increase GEEP beneficiaries by 1,000,000 and increase of beneficiaries of Home-Grown School Feeding by 5,000,000.”

The minister said about 3.7 million households comprising of more than 15.5 million individuals have been captured on the National Social Register.

She said the ministry has developed a strategy for targeting the urban poor in line with President Buhari’s directive to expand the National Social Register.

“In championing Social Inclusion, deliberate efforts were made to capture vulnerable youth and groups which included Women, People with Special Needs, in the expansion of the National Social Register by one million households. Also, in the Economic Sustainability Plan, we have over 1,000,000 urban poor in the National Social Register.

“As of June 2020, 4.41 per cent of the total number of individuals captured in the National Social Register are recognised as persons with special needs. This comes to a total of 685,090 persons with special needs in the National Social Register.

“About 3.7 million households comprising of more than 15.5 million Individuals have been captured on the National Social Register. Of that number, over 2.8 million of the households which comprise of 13.5 million individuals are eligible for Conditional Cash Transfer. This numbers are spread across the 36 states and FCT. Demolition: 6,000 Traders To Lose Shops At Kaduna’s Unguwan Rimi Market

Traders at Unguwar Rimi Market in Kaduna North LGA have pleaded for extension of the deadline of the state government to enable them to evacuate their goods.

A 7-day notice given to the traders by Kaduna State Urban Development Properties Authority (KASUPDA) will end tomorrow, Dec 1, 2020.

The chairman of the Market Association, Alhaji Musa Hassan, said about 6,000 traders would be affected by the demolition and pleaded with the authorities to give them more time to relocate.

He said the temporary site allocated to the traders on Ramat Road, Unguwar Rimi, had not been developed, and “We have no place to move our wares.”

When Daily Trust visited the market, it was observed that traders had embarked on self-demolition of their shops in an attempt to salvage roofing sheets, doors, windows and other valuables.

A meat seller in the market, Alhaji Ya’u, said they were shocked by the impromptu notice but that as law-abiding citizens, they had no choice but to pray it was for the best.

The traders pleaded with the state government to develop and expand the temporary site which can only accommodate 300 shop owners.

Daily Trust reports that the quit notice, signed by KASUPDA’s Director, Development Control, Bello Musa Ibrahim, partly read: “In line with the Kaduna Urban Renewal Programme by the state government, you are hereby given 7-day notice from the date of receipt to vacate/remove all your valuables from the site.”

It warned that failure to comply with the directives would leave the authority with no option than to remove or demolish the said structures.

Donald Trump Sends Get Well Message To Joe Biden After Foot Injury
‌
US president-elect Joe Biden has a foot fracture and will likely have to wear a medical boot, his team said Sunday after the 78-year-old was taken to the doctor because he had slipped while playing with his dog.

Biden, who will become the oldest US president upon his January swearing-in, suffered the injury Saturday with Major, one of his two German shepherds.

The president-elect’s personal physician Kevin O’Connor initially said x-rays had not uncovered any “obvious fracture”, but added that an additional CT scan would still be done. That scan “confirmed hairline (small) fractures… in the mid-foot,” O’Connor said in a subsequent statement released by Biden’s office.

He added that the former vice president, who won election against Donald Trump in November, “will likely require a walking boot for several weeks”.

With both Biden and Trump in their 70s, age was an issue in the presidential race, even if it often took a backseat to pressing matters like the Covid-19 pandemic.

#zabarmarimassacre: 38 More Corpses Recovered On Monday, Army Stopped Us From Taking Photos — Eyewitness

About thirty-eight more corpses were on Monday recovered from the scene of Saturday’s onslaught on farmers by Boko Haram Insurgents in Borno State, sources told SaharaReporters.

The deceased were slaughtered at a rice plantation in Kwashabe village, about 20 kilometres north of Maiduguri. The insurgents were also said to have destroyed the rice plantation after killing the farmers.

The Defence Headquarters had claimed only 43 people were killed, but a source told SaharaReporters that the death toll had risen to 81 as 38 more bodies were recovered by search and rescue teams on Monday.

He said, “The army restricted us from capturing the scene with our phones; they know what they are doing, and they know they will be exposed. Today alone, 38 bodies were recovered and it will continue tomorrow.

"What happened here was a human harvest, not massacre, the story media and the government is just lying. They did not even talk about the farm produce and rice plantation that was razed ablaze by Boko Haram. Some bodies can never be recovered because flowing water went away with them.”

The killing of the rice farmers has attracted condemnations with some Nigerians calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the country’s Service Chiefs and overhaul the security architecture of Nigeria.

Junaid Mohammed: Nigeria Will Never Know Peace If Buhari, APC Remain In Power

Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Mohammed Junaid, has said that as long as President Muhammadu Buhari and All progressives Congress, APC, are in power, Nigeria will never know peace.According to him, the task of governing the country is beyond President Buhari.

Dr. Junaid stated this while reacting to the weekend killings of over 43 persons in Zabarmari in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.

Mohammed Junaid said: “I think Nigerians by now must have been sick and tired of the story of the massacre of innocent people in North-East, particularly in Borno State.

“And certainly, Nigerians cannot pretend to be unaware of the bandits in North-West, particularly Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna states.

“So any attempt by Buhari, this lousy government to pretend that they were shocked; we have reached the stage where we are beyond being shocked. All is happening because there is no governance in the country.

“As long as this same Buhari, this government and party(APC) are in power, Nigeria will never know peace because clearly, the task of governing Nigeria is beyond him. He cannot do it.

“He has failed woefully. Because of the hypocritical nature of Nigeria, tribal, sectional and religious politics, everybody is pretending so that Buhari will be seen to be doing something.

“He’s doing nothing. He cannot do anything. And any attempt to prolong his tenure indefinitely will only leave Nigeria into more and more nightmare.

“The number reported by the international media (43 people) is not true because it runs into hundreds. The identity of people killed is not also clear and the number is more than 43; some were abducted and missing.

“The technical service chiefs don’t know anything about the area. Everybody is more concerned about getting money from the government.

“So if Nigerians are serious and want to salvage the country, they should do something or shut up because this man cannot govern. After six years, we have seen how he is able to govern. His government is nothing but misgovernment, corruption and nepotism. Let us stop deceiving ourselves.

“This could not have happened without any intervention from the armed forces who are supposed to be operating in that area. Where are they?

“We only know we have an army when the time comes for Buhari to promote them. Six years in power and every year, he promoted generals and officers. The latest was six. And the billions of spent on the army can buy a Nation that is already in recession.

“If we think what Buhari is doing is the correct thing, let us allow him to continue indefinitely. In fact, let us extend his tenure beyond third term to any number of terms.

“But the fact of the matter is if he leads the government with the same mindset, with the same group of people, relations and in-laws he brought into government, Nigeria shall not know peace.”
