Obiano’s Kinsmen Dethrone 2 Suspended Monarchs

The political face-off between Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano and a faction of traditional rulers loyal to billionaire oil mogul, Prince Arthur Eze, took a new twist as subjects declared the suspended traditional rulers of Eziaguleri-Otu and Mkpunando communities dethroned.

Orient Daily gathered that youths and elders from Aguleri community in Anambra East local government area, last Monday, staged a peaceful protest, urging the state government to formally revoke the traditional rulership certificates of Alex Edozieuno and Ikegunam Udoji for their participation in the recent controversial trip to Abuja.

Recall that, last week, the Anambra state government, acting on the recommendation of Anambra state Traditional Rulers’ Council, suspended 12 traditional rulers, including those of Eziaguleri-Otu and Mkpunando, for 12 months, over what it called misconduct and violation of the traditional rulers’ council tenets. They were, among others, accused of travelling out of the state in official capacities without due consultation and clearance, an allegation some of them dismissed as political vendetta.

The monarchs had said that their visit was to thank President Buhari for his administration’s development strides in the South East and then plead for more.

The Aguleri protesters carried placards with inscriptions ‘We want Igwe Edozieuno and Igwe Udoji removed’, ‘Igwe Eziaguluotu must be removed now’, ‘Edozieuno and Udoji are no more Igwe’ and so on.

The demonstration, which reportedly took place simultaneously at Mkpunando and Enugwu-Otu, saw a large crowd of youths, elders and women from the communities convene at the Aguleri junction, Otuocha before they headed to the ‘Obu Gad’ to consult “Ndi oji ani Aguleri” where the fate of the embattled monarchs were said to have been sealed.

According to a statement posted by an All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, chieftain, Evang Chinedu Obigwe, “The protesters moved straight to Obu Gad where major decision are taken in Aguleri and, after lodging their complaints to ndi ichie and Ojiana Aguleri, it was resolved that, as from today, Igwe Udorji Okike of Eziagulu Otu Aguleri and Igwe Alex Edoziuno of Mkpunando Aguleri have been dethroned as traditional rulers and that they should not parade themselves again as traditional rulers.”

The statement saw the involvement of the two monarchs from Governor Obiano’s constituency as a “shameful act of sabotage and backstabbing” which the community condemned.

An eyewitness of the protest, Ike Ochie, told this paper that the protest received massive support because the action of the monarchs was considered as a betrayal of the entire Aguleri people.

On the justification for the dethronements, Ochie argues: “There was no justification for Aguleri monarchs to join those people against Governor Obiano. Why didn’t the Igwe of Arthur Eze community join them? If Arthur did not take his own Igwe, why should Igwe from Aguleri join them? Obviously, they did it to spite Obiano but they also betrayed Aguleri people. What they did was sacrilegious”, he stressed.

He disclosed, however, that “The two of them were already having problems with their subjects and this certainly sealed their fate. He cited Igwe Alex Edoziuno whom he claimed had land issues over which the youths of the community were out “to deal with him.”

When Orient Daily contacted Igwe Peter Udoji of Eziagulu-Otu Aguleri, he said he was not disturbed by the protest. His words: “I am not disturbed by their protests and name calling. What preoccupies my mind now is how to explain myself to our brother, Governor Willie Obiano; to make him understand that I have no bad intention against him,” he said.

On his part, when contacted, Igwe Alex Edoziuno of Mkpunando Aguleri, said he was not in good mood to talk to the media.

The Deputy Executive Secretary, National University Commission NUC, Dr. Babatunde Ramon Yusuf has handed down to Governor Hope Uzodinma measures meant for the smooth take off of the proposed University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Imo State.

Informing the Governor of their mission, at Government House Owerri, the Leader of the Verification Team, Dr. Yusuf said they were in Imo to look at the resources, both human and material, for the take off of the state proposed new University.

Dr. Yusuf noted that the attempt to convert existing Polytechnic infrastructure into a University infrastructure is not an easy task and suggested that beyond facilities and infrastructure there is the need to put purposeful programmes on ground, especially personnel of both teaching and non teaching staff.

He promised, on behalf of NUC, to partner with the State to ensure that the lofty aspirations and heights proposed by the Governor are achieved.

He also gave tips of their recommendations for a smooth take off of the proposed university to include: the establishment of School of Sciences as a foundation to specialization in Agriculture and Agricultural Sciences; the need to incorporate School of Engineering with emphasis on Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering; and finally, that the university should consider the need for Environmental Sciences as well as Information Communication Technology (ICT) where ICT hardwares will be provided.

He commended the state government for her ambition and promised that they would do all within their powers to ensure that the Governor’s dream is realised.

Secondly, that he observed that the world over what will be taking the lead after the COVID-19 pandemic will be agriculture and that the type of agriculture will be technologically driven, hence it is expedient that Imo State keys into the technological life system to make living more meaningful.

To actualize the above objective, the government told his visitors that it is his desire to start University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences as soon as possible to allow Imo children acquire knowledge first, before talking of the secondary aspect, which is employment and specialization.

Governor Uzodimma promised that the government under his watch will strive to meet up with the criteria set up by NUC for such a university to take off and appealed to the Visitation Panel to assist the state make the project work. He assured that any concession given to the state to assist her realize the project will not be abused.

The Governor also said that if members of the visitation team accommodate the request of Imo State to approve the second university, “posterity will surely remember them.”

Malaria Control: Stakeholders Call For Improved Environmental Hygiene In Ebonyi

Healthcare experts and stakeholders in Ebonyi have called for improved environmental hygiene as part of the ongoing efforts to ensure that no death is recorded in pregnant women and children under five in the years ahead due to malaria.

Stakeholders while speaking in Abakaliki last Wednesday during State Advocacy Communication and social mobilization core group meeting, opinioned that government should integrate with partners and other stakeholders to educate the rural dwellers on environmental hygiene.

Mrs. Otozi Rita, malaria focal person in Ohaukwu local Government noted that as mosquito nets are shared for use, community sensitization on health education should also be considered.

“As we are using this longlasting insecticide net, for preventing mosquito bites because it is through mosquito bites that one can have malaria, we need sensitization to the communities, more health education concerning environmental hygiene and also personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.

“Another thing is involving the stakeholders like in Ohaukwu, Tiptop involved all the Stakeholders both in the community and in the house hold to create awareness on taking community intermittent preventive treatment to prevent malaria in pregnancy. I believe if Government integrated themselves, with the NGOs which is the partners in the state if they integrate and work together I believe Ebonyi will be safe from malaria.

On his part, the traditional ruler of Okposi Community in Ezza north, Eze Anthony Njoku, noted that the Issue of malaria is very important which involves everyone. And one common thing was that people have been patronizing patient medicine dealers in malaria prevention which is wrong.

He stated that it takes time to educate the rural dwellers to visit primary health care centers for testing when they feel they have malaria.

Eze Njoku, said he has joined the campaign on use of mosquito net. “On the use of mosquito net, I gave them sensitization, and I made it composer that every house hold must sleep under mosquito net which they collected. There are group the move round the community to re-sensitize them.

He advised other traditional institution to join the campaign. “My advice to other traditional rulers is that when you asked your people to sleep under mosquito net, and you go round to supervise if they are using the net, you are helping the community.

Anambra Community Seeks Govt Intervention To End Constitution Crisis

Members of Ezeokweghi/Ezeofor Royal Family Enugwu-Nanka, in Orumba North local government area of Anambra state, are seeking government’s urgent intervention to end the lingering constitutional crisis rocking the community over 10 years.

In a press conference on Monday in Awka, the community cried out over attempt to evade justice by factional members of Nanka Patriotic Union, which it said, forged the constitution of the community to meet the interests of the few.

The forged constitution, according to them, recognised only five villages in Nanka instead of seven as it were previously, as well as the purported rotation of traditional stool among the five villages.

In a petition titled, “Re: Plot to abort prosecution of charge NO: AJMC/42C/2017 at Aguata Magistrate Court, Ekwulobia to secure travesty of justice”, they alleged that the defendants in the charge wrote to the Honourable Attorney General of Anambra State, Barr. Uju Nwogu, presenting position for possible withdrawal of fiat issued to prosecute them by a private legal practitioner and entering Nolle Prosequi in the said charge. This, they said, could thwart justice.

The petition signed by Chief Ben Okeke, chairman and Wilfred Okafor, assistant secretary of the royal family reads in part, “The defendants stand from information reaching us is that since the Government of Anambra State approved the Nanka Town Union and Chieftaincy Constitution of 2011, it will be wrong for same government to be prosecuting the defendants.

“Our stand on the contrary, is that the approval was given based on misrepresentation and suppression of facts which if it were available at the time of the grant, the relevant agency wouldn’t have done what it did.

“Further, the government of Anambra State was not present when the constitution was made and the defendant altered the original constitution and forged same before presenting it to the government who innocently played along with them.

“We refer to various pronouncements made by Courts and administrative decisions by the government agencies and confirm that it will be ridiculous for government to stifle prosecution of this charge.

“It will amount to perversion of justice. It will be a mess and embarrassment to judicial system and to the administration of criminal justice system. Such actions will obviate breach of trust and will be a dent to our judicial system and public policy.

“If the action of the defendants is legitimate; if the defendants have good defence; why can’t they stand trial and defend their action; why can’t they advance their defence to court instead of frustrating trial of the charge since 5 years?

“The society is watching as one wrong step begets another. We urge you to help protect the integrity of the court and society. We urge that the Court be allowed to try the matter to restore the confidence of the society in it’s system and to assure that it works.

“We want to assure Nankarians that we did not fail them; we worked hard to make sure that the voice of justice was upheld.

“We therefore, call on the Executive Governor of Anambra State, the Hon. Chief Judge of Anambra State, the Honorable Attorney General of Anambra State, the Director of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice and the Administrative Judge, Aguata High Court, Ekwulobia, to ensure that there is no more delay in justice as regarding the matter”.

Orient Daily further reports that the above charge is an offshoot of Nanka Town Union and Chieftaincy Constitution 2011. Presently, there are 5 other civil cases namely; Suit Nos: AG/159/2013; AG/185/2013; AG/171/2016; O/MISC/1446/2017; AG/74/2020 on the said Constitution by different entities in Nanka.

COVID-19: Rivers Govt Reopens Markets, Increases Church Attendance

The Rivers state government has announced the re-opening of all markets in the state with effect from Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 7a.m to 6p.m daily. Similarly, Churches can now hold services with 50 percent of their hall capacity provided the leadership can enforce wearing of face masks and washing of hands at the entrance by worshippers.

State Governor, Nyesom Wike who announced this in a state-wide broadcast Monday evening said that Rumukwurushi (Oil Mill) and Oginiba Slaughter markets still remain closed. He stated that as the markets resume business, they must operate in strict compliance with the established protocols on wearing of face masks, washing of hands and maintaining social distancing.

The Governor explained that government lifted the ban placed on markets to increase the tempo of economic activities in the state, saying; “Market managers must provide for hand washing and use of sanitizers for everyone at the entrance of every market, ensure wearing of face masks and maintain social distancing”.

Wike warned; “Any market that opens to the public and fails to comply strictly with these protocols shall be closed down. The market managers shall be prosecuted while the contravening shops shall be forfeited to the State Government without notice.

“Similarly, Churches can now hold services with 50 percent of their hall capacity provided the leadership can enforce wearing of face masks and washing of hands at the entrance by worshippers.

He added; “The ban on outdoor sports activities at the Port Harcourt Club, Golf Club and the Port Harcourt Polo Club is also lifted.

“Members of these clubs must also comply with the established Covid-19 protocols or risk another closure.

“In addition, all night clubs, cinemas, bars and in-service restaurants remain banned until further notice. The established restrictions on public burials and weddings are also still in force.

“All Local Government Chairmen are hereby directed to ensure strict compliance with the protocols in their respective Local Government Areas.

“We also call on the security agencies to support the State Government to fight against the spread of this disease by enforcing the wearing of face mask in public places and maintenance of physical distancing throughout the state.

“Government has increased the State’s capacity for surveillance, contact tracing, testing and treatment of positive cases in line with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), oil and gas companies that provided PCR laboratories.

“We are also considering the request for approval and certification by some private laboratories to provide sample collection and testing services,” he said.

Wike observed that with the available data on Covid-19 cases, the measures put in place by the State Government are impacting positively on the efforts to control the spread of the virus.

He stated that even though the state presently stands as the fifth most impacted states in the country, there has been a steady drop on the number of new positive cases within the last seven weeks.

According to the Governor, the state can move to a higher level of increased spread if residents do not change their deviant behaviours.

“The deviant behaviour of residents and visitors to the state to comply with the basic Covid-19 rules inspite of repeated appeals from me, NCDC and other well-meaning persons is quite unfortunate.

“We therefore appeal to all residents to exercise due sense of responsibility by complying with the established protocols on wearing of face mask, use of hand sanitizers and maintaining social distancing,” he urged.

The Governor commended the medical personnel and volunteers who have continued to render selfless services to check the spread of the virus.

He also thanked individual and corporate donors who have supported the state and said their names would be published soon.

On the dissolution of the Taskforce on Illegal Motor Parks and Street Trading, the Governor said the decision was taken because the members took the laws into their hands.

While urging motorists and traders not to go back to their old ways, the Governor announced that a disciplined Taskforce would soon be reconstituted.

THE TWENTY BASIC LAWS OF MONEY THAT I TAUGHT TO MY CONGREGATION

1. God made us to live by laws, not by miracles or mysteries. Money comes to those who know and abide by its principles.

2. Knowledge of the law of money is the key demand for wealth. To obtain this knowledge, find men- tors, coaches, teachers, and partners for wealth.

3. The first thing to do with money is save.

4. Income does not determine wealth; knowledge
does.
5. Minimize expenses.

6. Don’t steal. Pay your tithes and taxes. For a secure future, pay all your debts.

7. Wealth comes by investment. Save in order to multiply the savings, retain by minimizing costs, and multiply by investment and production.

8. Don’t listen to the dictates of money—it is a good tool but a bad master.

9. Wealth does not come by working harder, longer, or even wiser. It comes by applying principles, time, energy, your mind, and your money. (See Luke 19:24-26.)

10. It is easier to obtain wealth in poor surroundings than in rich or developed surroundings with al- ready-maximized potential, so never complain about your circumstances.

11. Ignore social expectations demanding a certain standard of social behaviors.

12. Money does not come because someone is good, spiritual, or lucky. It comes to those who know and apply the principles of money. (See Proverbs 6:6-11.)

13. There are no limits in life except those of the mind.

14. Don’t keep liabilities. Keep only assets.

15. The reason for failure in life is ignorance and la- ziness.
16. Do not despise the day of small beginnings. Start with small savings.

17. The windows of heaven are open to send blessings, not money. God sends ideas and designs, but He does not send money. (See Deuteronomy 8:18.)
18. Let God become your partner.

19. Money comes by cultivating your land and pro- ducing goods and services. Genesis 2:15 says: “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Gar- den of Eden to work it and take care of it” (niv).

20. God’s blessing is important for enduring wealth without sorrow. God’s blessing is the guard against evil. In Proverbs 10:22, we are told, “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sor- row with it.” Never love money. Instead, love God, and you will be able to subdue money.
