Abia Stakeholders Pass Vote Of No Confidence In Nkole Over Poor Performance

Some stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Arochukwu Local Government Area (LGA) of Abia have passed a vote of no confidence in Rep. Uko Nkole, representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

The stakeholders’ decision was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Umuahia by a former Chief Whip of Arochukwu Legislative Council, Mr Cletus Nwankwo.

The statement said that the vote of no confidence was passed in the lawmaker at a stakeholders’ strategic meeting in Umuahia on Tuesday.

It said that the meeting was attended by the former Secretary to the State Government, Mr Donatus Okorie, a former state legislator and one-time Commissioner for Commerce, Dr Sampson Orji (represented by Mike Onwuchekwa), and two former Chairmen of the council, Messrs Kingsley Ngunu and James Kalu.

Others are a former Speaker of the council’s Legislative Council, Nwabueze Okoro, LGA PDP Chairmen, Messrs Tony Nwankwo and Obinna Nwankwo.

The rest are the Special Adviser to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, Chief Felix Ukpabi, a former lawmaker, Chief Tom Ezikpe, and the party’s Woman Leader in the area, Mrs Ochioha Okereke (Ugoeze), and party chieftain in the area, Mr Isaac Nkole.

The stakeholders hinged their vote of no confidence in Nkole’s alleged docility as well as ineffective representation at the National Assembly (NASS) and anti-party activities.

They said that the lawmaker had not sponsored any bill in his five years in National Assembly.

They also alleged that he had made no visible attempt to attract the attention of the Federal Government and Niger Delta Development Commission to the deplorable Nmuri, Ndi Ebe and Okobo bridges in the area.

The stakeholders further alleged that Nkole had done nothing to address the unemployment problem among the unemployed graduates from Arochukwu, Ututu, Isu and Ihechiowa clans.

They threatened to commence the process of recall against him “if he fails to sit up”.

However, in a swift reaction to the statement, the federal lawmaker dismissed the stakeholders’ action and threat as “cloud without rain.”

According to him, no genuine stakeholders’ meeting can hold without his knowledge as the highest political office holder from the constituency.

He further contended that since the meeting did not have the consent of the council Chairman, Mr Odum Okemini, any decision taken was a nullity.

NAN reports that Okemini also issued a statement in the wake of the stakeholders’ meeting dissociating himself from the gathering.

He described the “so-called stakeholders” at the meeting as “impostors”.

He, along with Nkole, urged members of the public to disregard the action of the “self-acclaimed stakeholders”. (NAN)

Cross River: Amidst Tension, PDP Postpones State Congress

As the battle on who controls the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Cross River state rages uncontrollably, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has postponed the State Congress which was billed for Saturday, August 8, 2020.

Gov Ben Ayade and some National Assembly members from the state are at daggers drawn. The bone of contention is mainly who should be the State Chairman of the party. While the Governor is believed to support Alphonsus Eba as Chairman, some National Assembly members are said to prefer the former national publicity secretary, Venatius Ikem.

Two different lists of cleared candidates and delegates had been in circulation since Thursday to prove the depth of controversy surrounding the exercise. While the first list has names of three candidates including Venatius Ikem, Alphonsus Eba and Frank Adah who were said to have been cleared to contest for the chairmanship seat, the second list has the name of Alphonsus Eba as a sole cleared candidate.

Surprisingly, both lists were signed by the party national organising secretary, Col Austin Akobundu (rted), with the emblem of the party visibly stamped.

As the political atmosphere became charged with both camps fully ready for a showdown, the police warned on Saturday morning against breakdown of law and order, saying it would deal with anyone who would foment trouble.

The uncertainty surrounding the State congress may have forced the PDP national leadership to postpone the election. A press statement signed by the national publicity secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, said “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed the State Congress in Cross River State by one week.

“The NWC, after due consultations and in exercise of its powers under the PDP constitution, postponed the Cross River State Congress from the earlier scheduled date of Saturday, August 8, 2020 to Saturday, August 15, 2020. The postponement is sequel to demands of exigencies of party administration.

“All critical stakeholders, elders, leaders as well as teeming members and supporters of our great party, particularly in Cross River State, are to be guided accordingly.”ones State Congress

You Have No Seats To Occupy In Edo Assembly, Speaker Tells 14 Members-Elect
The Speaker, Edo Assembly, Francis Okiye, says the 14 members-elect not yet inaugurated, no longer have seats to occupy in the assembly, following the declaration of their seats as vacant.

Okiye who made the assertion during the assembly’s Tuesday plenary in Benin, called on the public to disregard the 14 elected lawmakers whom he said were “parading themselves as members of the Edo assembly.”

According to him, the affected members-elect have lost their status and rights, following their refusal to be inaugurated.

The speaker said that their purported inauguration in private residence was illegal.

He named the members as Victor Edoror (Esan Central Constituency), Washington Osifo (Uhumwode), Vincent Uwadiae (Ovia North East), Kingsley Ugabi (Etsako East) and Michael Ohio-Ezomo (Owan West).

Others were Sunday Aghedo (Ovia South West), Chris Okaeben (Oredo West), Crosby Eribo (Egor), Aliyu Oshiomhole (Etsako West 11) and Oshomah Ahmed (Etsako Central).

Also listed were Ganiyu Audu (Etsako West 1), Ugiagbe Dumez (Ovia North East 1) Uyi Ekhosuehi (Oredo East) and Eric Okaka (Owan East).

He said: “The Governor, following the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, issued a proclamation for the first session of the assembly on June 14, 2019.

“The Clerk of the House issued a notice to all members-elect to attend the first session on June 17, 2019 and the house was duly convened and inaugurated.

“But the above-mentioned members refused to present their certificates of return and also refused to present themselves at any sitting of the house to subscribe to the oath of office as members.”

The speaker further said that after several sittings by the house since June 17, 2019, Uyi Ekhosuehi (Oredo East ) and Eric Okaka (Owan East) deliberately stayed away from the sittings of the ssembly.

He said that the said members-elect, instead of presenting themselves to subscribe to the oath of office, filed a suit at the Edo High Court, challenging the inauguration of the house.

Okiye added: “Some members of this house approached the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to stop the unconstitutional threat of the National Assembly to take over the house.

“The court restrained the governor from issuing another proclamation and ruled that the house was constitutionally constituted to carry out its duties.

“Following the continued absence of the members-elect, their seats were declared vacant on December 4, 2019.

“The members-elect again approached the Federal High sittings in Abuja, challenging the resolution of the house declaring their seats vacant.

“It is therefore shocking to hear that they converged in a private residenc and purportedly inaugurated themselves as members of the Edo House of assembly.” (NAN)

Collection Of Forms For 774,000 Special Public Works Commences In Rivers

The Selection Committee of the Federal Government Extended Special Public Works Programme to engage 774,000 itinerant and unskilled workers across Nigeria, has commenced distribution of forms in Rivers.

Chairman of the Committee in Rivers, Dr Innocent Barikor, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Barikor said there were designated National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Desk Officers in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state for the collection and submission of the forms.

He also disclosed that there were other contact persons whose numbers had been made public for qualified and interested applicants.“We have demystified the process of transmitting the forms to ensure that they are made available because of the category of people we are dealing with.

“These are poor people that lack access to information, so we have agreed that even if they see the form from a friend, they can photocopy, fill and submit.“The most important thing is their information that we need and original copy of the form; this is to make the process easy for collection and submission,” he said.

According to Barikor, the state committee has directed the photocopying centre of its office at the Federal Secretariat in Port Harcourt to get the form from NDE and photocopy for people.“Another reason for this is to respect COVID-19 protocols; interested people can collect the form and fill it at home.“They can quietly come at their time and submit, or even give it to our coordinators at the Local government level; we don’t need a crowd at the secretariat,” he added.

The chairman said that even ward councillors had been told to get the form and photocopy for their people because they are the closest to the people. He stated that bank details were not needed in the form because the federal government had designed a system to get the Bank Verification Number of applicants via their names.

“For those who don’t have bank accounts, we have made arrangement for accounts to be opened for them, all they need do is to get the form, fill and submit it.“All forms should be completed and returned through the same means of collection between 10th and 24th August 2020.

“Applicants should note that this programme is a three months COVID- 19 palliative programme designed to address the challenges faced by itinerant and unskilled workers.“Beneficiaries shall earn the sum of N20,000 per month for three months (October to December),” he explained.(NAN).

*THE POWER OF SYNERGY*

*BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 18:18-20; MARK 6: 7-13; 1 THESSALONIANS 3:2*

*“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NKJV).‬*

The wisdom of pulling resources and working together was first demonstrated by the Trinity in the execution of creation and specifically illustrated during the formation of man (Genesis 1:26). God also applied the principle when He blessed man and gave him dominion over the earth by blessing “them” and not “him” - *And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.” Genesis 1:28(AMP).* God did not create man to be independent but to be dependent on Him and work together with others in exercising the dominion mandate.

A synergy is a combined action or operation to obtain a desired outcome. It means that the effect of the whole is greater than the sum of the effects of the individual parts. Teamwork will produce an overall better result than if each person was working toward the same goal individually. This principle has its foundation from the scripture – *“Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will put ten thousand to flight; your enemies will fall before you by the sword.” Leviticus 26:8 (AMP).* Strength and skills are required for the attainment of any vision. As an individual or as a cooperate body there is a threshold you cannot exceed when you don’t work with others because maximum productivity requires maximum cooperation.

Choosing strategic partners that will ensure productivity requires wisdom and discernment. In choosing the people to work with, you must check if they have the same vision or are willing to pursue the vision when they are onboard. Vision casting is important in building synergy because partnership with those not aligned to your vision cannot get you the required results. Another important factor to consider is that the synergy must be symbiotic and not parasitic. Each partner must contribute either tangible or intangible resources that will foster the attainment of the set objectives. The parties can offer finance, time, skill, and other valuable resources.

In the brotherhood covenant we discussed yesterday, Jonathan did not only willingly offer gifts (1 Samuel 18:4) but he bequeathed his inheritance (the throne) to David - *“Then Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God. And he said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Even my father Saul knows that.” 1 Samuel 23:16-17(NKJV).*

The rewards of synergy transcends generations when kingdom values like the fear of God, mutual respect, honouring covenant relationships, and respect for authority are adhered to by the partners (1 Peter 2:17). We saw this yesterday, when Melphibosheth who was the son of Jonathan was honoured by King David because of the covenant David had with Jonathan. Before you create synergy, think about the impact it will have on the next generation. In fulfilling the great commission of our Lord Jesus and ensuring that the kingdoms of this world conform to the government of Heaven; the importance of synergy cannot be over emphasized.

*PRAYER POINT
Thank God for the wisdom of synergy and ask for discernment to know the right people to build sustainable trans-generational synergies with.

Court Remands Man, Friend For Defiling His Stepdaughter.

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, ordered that a 50-year-old man, Paul Nnadi, 50 and his friend, be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Lagos for allegedly raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter.

The police charged Nnadi and his friend Ayobamidele Olaiya with conspiracy and defilement.

Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka however did not take their plea.

Nwaka ordered the police to return the case file to the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

Consequently, Nwaka adjourned the case until Sept. 17, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Christopher John, alleged that they committed the offence sometime in 2019 and May at No. 6, Ibitoye St., Ajegunle, Lagos, were charged with rape at the court.

John alleged that Nnadi, who is the victim’s step-father and Olaiya his friend, took turns on her.

John said that the case was reported at an Ajegunle police station and the defendants were arrested.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribed up to life imprisonment on conviction. (NAN

Russia Becomes First Country To Approve A COVID-19 Vaccine – Putin

President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia had become the first country in the world to grant regulatory approval to a COVID-19 vaccine after less than two months of human testing, a move hailed by Moscow as evidence of its scientific prowess.

The development paves the way for the mass inoculation of the Russian population, even as the final stage of clinical trials to test safety and efficacy continue.

The speed at which Russia is moving to roll out its vaccine highlights its determination to win the global race for an effective product, but has stirred concerns that it may be putting national prestige before sound science and safety.

Speaking at a government meeting on state television, Putin said the vaccine, developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute, was safe and that it had even been administered to one of his daughters.

“I know that it works quite effectively, forms strong immunity, and I repeat, it has passed all the needed checks,” said Putin.

He said he hoped the country would soon start mass producing the vaccine.

Its approval by the health ministry foreshadows the start of a larger trial involving thousands of participants, commonly known as a Phase III trial.

Such trials, which require a certain rate of participants catching the virus to observe the vaccine’s effect, are normally considered essential precursors for a vaccine to receive regulatory approval.

Regulators around the world have insisted that the rush to develop COVID-19 vaccines will not compromise safety.

But recent surveys show growing public distrust in governments’ efforts to rapidly produce such a vaccine.

Russian health workers treating COVID-19 patients will be offered the chance of volunteering to be vaccinated soon after the vaccine’s approval, a source told Reuters last month.

More than 100 possible vaccines are being developed around the world to try to stop the COVID-19 pandemic.

At least four are in final Phase III human trials, according to WHO data. (Reuters/NAN)
