COVID 19: ATM Has 2 Cases Ahead Of Champions League Match Vs. RB Leipzig

Two members of Atletico Madrid‘s group set to travel to Portugal for the Champions League quarterfinals tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday.

It’s the first pandemic-related setback among clubs participating in the final stage of Europe’s top club competition.

The last eight will begin in Lisbon on Wednesday amid tight health safety protocols to prevent a coronavirus outbreak from derailing the competition’s finale. The semifinals and Aug. 23 final will also be played in Lisbon.

No other clubs involved in the quarterfinals have reported positive tests among its players recently. The Spanish club did not name those who tested positive and did not say if a player was involved.

It said it immediately informed health authorities in Spain and Portugal about the positive results, as well as UEFA and other soccer bodies in both countries.

It said in a statement that the entire group that was set to go to Lisbon will be tested again before the team can travel, and that the team’s schedule is being altered to allow the new tests. Atletico is set to face RB Leipzig on Thursday in the last eight.

The quarterfinals start on Wednesday with Atalanta facing Paris Saint-Germain. The other one-game series will involve Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich on Friday and Manchester City vs. Lyon on Saturday.

The matches will take place at two stadiums in Lisbon. Earlier this week Atletico had to cancel a friendly of their women’s team after a positive test within the group.

CAN President Urges FG To Overhaul Security Apparatus

The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev Samson Ayokunle, has urged the Federal Government to immediately overhaul the security apparatus of the country.

Ayokunle, who made the call at the Wedding Solemnisation of Rev William Okoye and Mrs Toyin Bello, at the All Christians Fellowship Mission (ACFM), Maitama, in Abuja on Sunday. He stressed that the security situation in the country was frightening and called for urgent attention.

He said the security report given by the U.S embassy warned that Iswap and al qaeda were already in the north eastern part of the country and we could see their hands already.

Just a week ago, 14 members of a Baptist church in Kogi state were slaughtered overnight. Nobody is safe. These radicals can attack from any angle. The people of this nation deserve to live their lives in maximum security.”

The government has to up its game. No more excuses and no more sympathies for people that have died. We can’t allow more people to keep dying,” he said.Archbishop John Praise, Founder, Dominion Chapel International Church, urged Christians to keep their faith alive and keep praying for God to reposition the country towards the right part.”

We have to keep our faith alive and keep trusting the Lord. We shouldn’t be weary. I believe our faith will keep us afloat regardless of what is happening currently. Former Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Rev Tor Uja insisted that God made Nigeria for a purpose and would not abandon the country no matter the travails.
Uja, who urged the church to continue praying for the country so the purpose of God would show forth, added that despite the difficulties, there is opportunity in all of these.
“I will like the federal government to return to its programme, focusing on nationalism and infrastructure. This way we will build the nation where all Nigerians are important because every Nigerian, rich or poor is important to the programme of God.”

We need an all hands on deck situation, to properly deal with COVID-19 in Nigeria. Everyone should be involved in rebuilding the country. There’s too much monologues going on between the government of the people.”

There should be more dialogues where Nigerians take ownership of the management of the problem. We are coming out of this a greater nation and will become a blessing to the entire world,” he said. Uja further called for the suspension of pilgrimage until next year, so that when we resume, we are ready and strong, COVID-19 would have been tackled, finances put together, and the people can be rallied together purposefully.

Lady Akpan Robert, a member of ACFM, who expressed joy towards the union of Rev Okoye and Mrs Bello, noted that it was time for Rev Okoye to move on with life.”Daddy did all that he could. All through mummy’s sickness, he was praying day and night. God has taken mummy to heaven but daddy is still alive. Biblically he has the right to remarry,” she said(NAN)

Police Dismiss Inspector For Brutalising Tailor, Causing Death

The Osun Police Command has dismissed Inspector Ago Egharevbe for allegedly brutalising a 20-year-old fashion designer, Ayomide Taiwo, leading to his death.

The News of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident, which happened on Wednesday at Obokun, led to the victim been hospitalised and later died on Sunday.

The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Opalola Yemisi, in a statement on Sunday in Osogbo, explained that Egharevbe, attached to Obokun Divisional Police Station, was arrested after the incident.
Yemisi said the inspector had been tried in orderly room and that the Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie, had recommended his dismissal to the Inspector General of Police.

She said the commissioner of police would not condone any act of indiscipline, brutality, unprofessional behaviour from any member of the force under his command.

“The Osun State Police Command wishes to state that the officer, Inspector Ago Egharepbe, who brutalised a civilian in Ibokun has been tried and dismissed from the force.

“CP Adie and the entire Osun Police Command commiserate with the family and friends of Ayomide Taiwo on the death of their loved one as we promised to ensure justice is served,” Opalola said.

Confirming the death, Mr Popoola Adebayo, the deceased boss, said Ayomide died on Sunday “as he had remained unconscious since the attack five days ago.”

Earlier, the deceased brother, Oladimeji Wasiu, said that the incident happened when he and his late brother were returning on a motorcycle to Osogbo from Iragbiji, their home town, where they went for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Wasiu said when they got to Ilahun village, along Ibokun road at about 3:30 pm, they met police officers at a check point who ordered their bike to stop.

He said one the officers became aggrieved when he asked Ayomide to pay N50, but he delayed in paying.

Wasiu said when the officer found out that Ayomide had huge sum of money with him, he became furious and hit him with the butt of the gun, which forced both of them to fall down and Ayomide became unconscious.

“While we were coming from home, at Iragbiji after Sallah, we met four police officers on our way.

“One of the police officers stopped us and requested for money, when my brother brought out money to give him, he saw that he had a huge amount in his pocket, this angered him and he hit him with the butt of his gun on his head.

“And immediately we fell down from the motorcycle while the remaining three officers ran away,” he said. (NAN)

“The Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie, has recommended his dismissal to the Inspector General of Police and he has been dismissed.

“He will be charged to court on Monday for murder.

*YOU ARE IN A COVENANT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD*

*BIBLE READING: 1SAMUEL 17:20-30; DEUTERONOMY 7:9*

*"But now, He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. Hebrews 8:6(NKJV).*

Covenant is a legally binding agreement between two equal or unequal parties that is bound by an oath usually enforceable by a superior Authority. The terms of the covenant regulate what the parties do in the relationship. Covenant creates a dimension of synergy between the parties beyond an ordinary relationship and delivers the parties desired benefits.

One of the things that covenant relationships does for God’s people is that it gives them an impeccable confidence that they are indeed a chosen people. People that understand this reality can venture into mind-boggling things with the total assurance that God is with them and will protect and help them overcome whatever may stand in their way to oppose them. This is the kind of understanding David had that made him confront a dreaded giant who was also a seasoned warrior. When David saw the level of humiliation that the presence of the giant in the battlefield had brought to the Israelites, he asked a question that made it obvious that he understood the power in the covenant that bonded him to God. *“Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Samuel 17:26 NKJV).*

Not even the anger of David’s elder brother, Eliab, could stop David from going ahead to confront the giant. God vindicated the young man’s confidence in the covenant and gave him victory that was humanly impossible. When you want to undertake the impossible, people or circumstances will attempt to discourage your faith. However, you have to defy all odds by taking actions inspired by faith and not by sensory perceptions.

What daring things have you undertaken because you understand that you are in a covenant relationship with God? Stop complaining about the same things others complain about; stop shying away from responsibilities; stop looking for who to blame. Let the covenant work for you because what others call challenges are opportunities in disguise for you to provide solutions.

*PRAYER POINTS
• Pray for a better understanding of what the blood of Jesus has accomplished for you.

• Pray that the church will arise with a better understanding of the covenant and do exploits.

• Demand to be clothed with boldness and courage to take giant steps of faith.

*CONFESSION
All resources in heaven and on earth are at my disposal because of my covenant relationship with God.
