Angry ‘Farmer’ Threatens To ‘Shoot’ Buhari

An unidentified man in a Twitter video has threatened to “shoot” President Muhammadu Buhari.

The 26-second video was uploaded on the micro-blogging site on Friday by a Twitter user @RomanusEke1 who wrote, “Mr President, this hardworking farmer has a message”.

“You must take note,” the ‘farmer’ said in his message to Mr Buhari. “Next time, if in this Nigeria you contest (election) again, I will shoot you down.”

Mr Buhari will not run for president again after completing his second term in 2023 because of the limit placed by the Nigerian Constitution.

The man in the video began his message in the Hausa language before he acceded to a background voice in the video that asked him to switch to English Language, perhaps to give the message a wider reach.

He was holding a knife and looked angry and frustrated.

The people around him in the video laughed and cheered him as he walked away after delivering his message.

Discontent

There has been widespread discontentment against the Buhari administration because of the general hardship and insecurity in Nigeria.

A report just released by a non-governmental organisation, Nigeria Mourns, said 1,165 people have been killed, while113 abducted in North-west Nigeria alone in the last eight months.

More than 82.9 million Nigerians are poor, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in May.

The NBS said in July that the inflation rate in Nigeria rose to 12.56 per cent in June, the highest in 26 months.

President Buhari, however, said “corrupt middlemen” should be blamed for the rising food prices in Nigeria. He has also highlighted several policies embarked on by his government to ensure economic prosperity for Nigerians.

“This year has indeed tested us in ways that globalisation has never been tested since the turn of the century. These challenges have disrupted lives and supply chains all over the world, and Nigeria has not been spared,” the president’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu said in a recent statement.

“But of all these problems, the most worrisome are the activities of “corrupt” middlemen (with many of them discovered to be foreigners) and other food traders who serve as the link between farmers and consumers found to be systematically creating an artificial scarcity so that they can sell at higher prices,” Mr Shehu said.

Mechanic Loses Customer’s Car During Sex Romp At A Brothel In Lafia, Nasarawa

A mechanic in Lafia, Nasarawa State, John Simon, has got more than he bargained for as a customer’s car he drove to a brothel in the New Nyanya area of the state was stolen.

City Round learnt that Simon was in the middle of an overnight romp with a sex worker, Stella Emeerga, when the 2014 Toyota Camry car was taken away by three men in connivance with Emeerga.

It was gathered that Simon, a father of two, stopped by at the brothel while travelling to Abuja to deliver the vehicle to his customer who is a car dealer.

While he was drunk in the brothel, one of the accomplices reportedly sneaked in and picked the car key on the floor.

At dawn, when he did not find the car where it was parked, Simon reported the incident at the New Nyanya Police Station and he and Emeerga were arrested.

After months of investigation at the station without headway, the owner of the car was said to have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the case was transferred to IG’s Intelligence Response Team.

One of the suspects, Monday Francis, recently arrested by the operatives owned up to the crime during an interview with City Round during the week.

The 30-year-old suspect said the theft was planned together with Emeerga, noting that the car was with a member of the gang who is still at large.

He stated, “We were four including Stella (Emeerga) that planned to steal the car when the driver (Simon) arrived at the brothel. We planned to make it look as if Stella was innocent. I pretended that I wanted water from her and she came out of her room while one of us quietly opened the door and took the car key.

“Stella told us that the man was drunk and that we could try. Dodo and Ezekiel took the car away. They gave it to one buyer who is on the run. Boys hang around the brothel to steal from anyone who is careless. Most of them will sleep off. We will enter their rooms and steal their valuables.”

Dare to be different as a sickle cell warrior
But Emeerga, 25, who said Simon had been her customer for over a year, denied conniving with the gang to steal the car.

She said she did not realise the vehicle had been stolen until in the morning when she discovered that a piece of cloth she used to block a big hole on her door had been removed.

She stated, “That day, Simon saw me hanging outside the brothel waiting for a customer. He took me and his friend, Junior, to an ATM point in Maraba to withdraw money. We came back and stayed outside till around 12am. I told him that I want to go and sleep as I was feeling cold. He told me that he wanted to sleep with me that night. I resisted but since there was no customer, I obliged him.

“Around 1am, I heard someone knock at my door. I ignored it but the person knocked again. It turned out to be Francis. I opened the door and explained to him that I have a guest. He then asked me if I had water and I said no.

“He pleaded with me to help him collect water from the bar. I followed him and locked my door because I know bad boys might enter my room. Simon was awake but lying down. I came back and we slept. In the morning, our landlady knocked at my door that I should bring my N1,500 levy. We normally contribute N1,500 every month to settle security men.

“I discovered that a hole on my door was opened. I normally used cloth to block it. I never knew that something had happened. It was when Simon finished bathing and could not find the key that I realised that someone could have accessed my room through that hole. We went outside and discovered that the car was no longer where it was parked. We went to New Nyaya Police Station and reported the matter. They took our statement and detained us.”

Narrating how she went into prostitution, Emeerga said she was married with two children before things took a drastic turn in 2015 when her husband became mentally ill.

Emeerga said, “He was in the university to do a degree programme when he became mad. He killed one of my children and I returned to my parents’ house. I was not doing anything, so one of my friends in Nasarawa asked me to come over last November. I knew that she is a prostitute and I started hustling too.

“I have lost count of the number of men I have slept with but in a day if the market is booming, I get up to eight persons. The amount we charge depends on the bargaining power. If there is no customer especially during this coronavirus period that men ran away, we collect N500 per customer.”

In his account, Simon said he saw Emeerga leaving the room but he did not suspect any criminal intent.

“I am a mechanic and a driver. My customer called me to drive his car to Abuja and I decided to relax a bit with Stella (Emeerga). I have known her for about a year. We stopped at a bar and drank.

“I didn’t know anyone entered her room. I saw her when she left, but I didn’t bother to stand up. She came back and we made love after which I slept off. It was when I woke up that I discovered that the key was missing.”

Two Artistes Found Dead Inside Lagos Studio, Others Hospitalised

There was apprehension last Thursday at the Awolusi Bus stop in the Alagbado area of Lagos State after residents found two artistes dead inside a studio in the area.

The musicians identified as Ajibawo Lawal and Sunday Akhigbe, were discovered dead around 7am, having reportedly performed all night in the studio.

A police source told our correspondent on Saturday that the residents also brought out a generator and some hard drugs from the studio, fuelling speculations that they might have died from fumes or effects of hard drugs.

Policemen from the Alagbado division recovered the two corpses.

A resident, Mahfuz Majeed, said apart from the two deceased, two other artists including the studio manager were found lying unconscious and rushed to the hospital.

He said, “Nobody came out from the studio while a generator was left working. So, neighbours became suspicious and broke into the building through the window. Apart from the dead artistes, they met two others in a terrible condition. We had to rush them to a private hospital. The police have taken over the case and we don’t know the state of the men in the hospital.”

A police report obtained from the station confirmed the incident, noting that the studio manager, identified as Muritala Azeez, who was stabilised in the hospital, was interrogated by the police.

The report said, “We received a distress call from an anonymous caller that a crowd was seen converging on a studio at Alagbado where rumour had it that some persons died inside.

“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives went to the scene, which is Coded Music Recording Studio at Awolusi bus stop. Two artistes, Ajibawo Lawal, 37, and Sunday Akhigbe, 12, were met inside the studio dead.

“One Mr Bamidele Olajide, neighbour of the same address had earlier met Dare Obadina and Azeez in a critical condition. A search was conducted inside the studio and the generator, condoms, bread and food that the deceased vomited and substances suspected to be hard drugs, including Indian hemps were found in the studio.

“Meanwhile, one Muritala Azeez, the owner of the studio, who is already in custody, admitted to having hired and kept them there and identified them as artistes who produce music for him. He further stated that he was with them physically on the previous night and later on the phone with them until 2am of September 3.”

The police report noted that the relatives of the deceased had been contacted and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, noting that investigations were ongoing.

He said, “Two were found dead while another two were unconscious and rushed to the hospital including the manager of the studio. Preliminary investigation showed there was a generator working. Maybe the fumes of the generator caused the problem but we won’t just say that because we need medical expertise to reveal it. There is no suspect for now because even the owner of the studio was also unconscious.”

Fake Commissioner Receives Salaries For Two Years In Niger

The Niger state government has sacked 80 civil servants over alleged fraud.

Speaking with journalists on Thursday, in Minna, the state capital, Salamatu Abubakar, the state’s head of service, said the affected workers fraudulently paid themselves salaries above their level.

She said the fraud was discovered during the recent verification exercise for all civil servants.

Abubakar said some of the sharp practices discovered was an office messenger receiving the salary of a high court judge and a fake commissioner of agriculture getting salaries for the office for two years.

The head of service said the suspects were from different agencies and ministries, and that the health services management board had most culprits.

Other ministries and institutions affected were schools of nursing and health technology, primary health care development agency, ministries of health, education, judiciary and school of midwifery.

Haruna Dukku, the state commissioner of agriculture, said he would have been mistaken to be the one earning double salaries if not for the discovery.

“Somebody has been collecting the salary of the commissioner for agriculture in the last two years,” he said.

“The person makes it to look as if I am collecting double salary. What will I say if at the end of my tenure, the EFCC comes knocking and this thing has not been discovered before then?”

Earlier in the month, the verification exercise committee uncovered a senior civil servant who smuggled his brother’s name into the state’s payroll and received salaries for 11 years.

In June, the Niger state government discovered monthly payment of over N672 million as salaries to ghost workers in the civil service.

*DOMINION MANDATE DAILY DEVOTIONAL*

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2020

*SIGNS OF THE END 1 (LAST DAYS)*

*BIBLE READING: LUKE 21:25-26*

*But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness but denying its power... 2Tim 3:1-5 (NIV)*

Each day that passes draws us closer to the closure of this age. Spiritually, the close of the age is characterised by diverse signs and wonders by the Government of Heaven and the kingdom of hell that physically impact the earth. Each day you live on earth is an opportunity to make amends in your life and prepare for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In 2 Tim 3:1-5, Apostle Paul writing to Timothy implored him to be aware of the signs of the end time. These signs have been prevalent: war, famine, economic melt down, natural disasters, deception, sexual pervasion, moral degeneration, false teachings, greed, covetousness, rebellion, epidemics, pandemics etc.

These signs are so strong and real as they are happening everyday around us. These signs are warnings to believers to make their way(s) right and launch out for soul winning to give unbelievers the opportunity to escape hell by accepting Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. These signs are warnings to Christians to walk in love and in holiness “without which no man will see God...”- Heb.12:14.

The signs of the end times are pointers to the return of the the bridegroom to take His bride (the church) home. How prepared are you for the second coming of Christ? Today is another opportunity to make peace with God. Today is another opportunity to clean up your vessel to be fit for the Master’s use. Today is another opportunity to reconcile the lost to God and make heaven to rejoice.

Where will you spend eternity? It is another opportunity to give your life to God; to have a deeper walk with Him. As you see these signs, know that the return of our Lord Jesus is imminent. Will you meet your Saviour without a soul to present? Are you expecting "Well done My good and faithful servant, enter into your rest" or "Away from Me, you worker of iniquity?" (selah). Work out the destination of your eternity daily, now that you have the opportunity.

*PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I ask for grace to walk in love and holiness. Help me to put my life in order and to reconcile men unto You. Grant me the grace to know You even deeper, to walk with you and to be used by You even in these last days in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
