Read carefully, a comma can make a difference:
1. RELEASE, NOT TO BE EXECUTED!
2. RELEASE NOT, TO BE EXECUTED!

A comma can make a difference btw life and death. So we need to carefully proofread/edit before we send messages

As you can see, the first sentence frees the convict, but the second condemns him to death. Yet the only difference in those statements is the placement of a comma.

Shoprite Announces Plan To Leave Kenya

South Africa’s supermarket group, Shoprite Holdings, has announced plans to sell or close its remaining two stores in Kenya by the end of December.

The supermarket group said it will be leaving the East African country two years after it began operations in the country.

On Tuesday, the company said its Kenyan business had underperformed.

“Kenya has continued to underperform relative to our return requirements,” the company said after posting a 16.6 per cent rise in annual group earnings. The South African firm has renegotiated 48 rental agreements by either reducing rent payments or converting them to local currency, Chief Executive, Pieter Engelbrecht, said.

The group has also restricted capital allocations to its supermarkets outside South Africa, as part of an ongoing review of its operations in Africa.

Shoprite, while declaring final dividend of 227 cents per share, said it had traded ahead of expectations since the beginning of July.

The company said the decision to exit Kenya was influenced by the ripple effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on its operations and earnings.

Self-Acclaimed Pastor Nabbed For Extorting Worshipper N550,000 In Delta

Emmanuel Mokogwu, a 33-year-old self-acclaimed pastor has been arrested for allegedly extorting the sum of N550,000 from a woman identified as Theresa for false prophecies.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Onicha Olona Police Division, SP Chidi Usulor who made the disclosure on Tuesday said the suspect, who claimed to have been ordained a pastor at the Winners’ Chapel over four years ago, was picked up on Monday evening on intelligence gathering.

According to Usulor, the suspect upon interrogation, claimed that his victim offered him the money in appreciation for the healing he was used by God to carry out on her and her family members.

The victim who hails from Ishiekpe Quarters in Onicha Olona Community, Delta State, according to the DPO, admitted that the suspect prayed and prophesied for her. She said that her house was covered with darkness, so much hatred and untimely death, a situation that forced her to have parted with the money in installments.

“I thought he used charm on me , and immediately he told me that my house was covered with darkness, and that there was hatred among my siblings and untimely death hanging around me, I believed him and started running around to raise the money he asked and fortunately, I was able to raise N350,000 and took it to him, after which I paid the balance to him,” the victim said.

Asked if the suspect prayed for her, the victim, alleged that the suspect did after she was ordered to have been completely naked, touching her private part, and bathing her with water in a big pot before demanding for sexual intercourse where the bubble burst.

Sources said that the suspect had allegedly been involved in sleeping, especially with single women, desperate for partners after preparing charms for them in red candles and wooden crosses.

At the headquarters of Winners’ Chapel along Koka Road, Asaba, some senior pastors at the church who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity described the self-acclaimed pastor as evil, saying that such person was never a product of the church, rather a senior native doctor who had been indulged in evil activities over the years, and praised God that he had been exposed for his doom.

They however urged the police to ensure that the suspect paid dearly for his sins, to serve as deterrent to other self-acclaimed pastors who have been conducting fake prophecies under the name of God.

Speaking further, SP Chidi Usulor said that the suspect would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation, warning that the police would leave no stone unturned to ensure those involved in criminal activities are brought to arrest, especially kidnappers and armed bandits.
