Petrol May Cost More In South-east - IPMAN

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Enugu depot, has warned that petrol may cost more in the South-East.

It said this is because the Federal Government failed to reactivate the Emene depot.

The Chairman of Enugu depot of the association, Mr Chinedu Anyaso, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Friday.

Anyaso said that petrol might be sold for N170 in the South-East because of the cost of delivering the products at the stations in the zone.

Anyaso said that the depot had been lying moribund since 2005.

He was reacting to the increase in the pump price of petrol and the challenges faced by marketers in the zone.

He said the depot was strategic to the national economy, adding that it was serving Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, parts of Imo, Abia, Cross River and North-Central, including Benue State.

The IPMAN chief described the cost of transporting products from Lagos, Warri, Benin, Calabar and other locations as huge.

According to him, marketers do not get their equalisation fund as and when due.

He said that marketers in the zone were incurring huge losses due to incessant road crashes and spill involving their trucks as a result of the poor state of the roads.

“We want to use this opportunity to renew our appeal to the federal government to repair the Emene depot in Enugu so that our members can start loading products from here.

“This depot has been shut down for over 15 years due to what they called pipeline vandalism.

“Our members are suffering and the people of the South-East and other areas that source products from the depot are suffering.

“For instance, the ex-depot price has been increased to N151.56, we will have to pay additional N14 for transportation and other expenses per litre depending on where we loaded before it is discharged in our stations.

“That will not be the case, if the product is pumped to the depot in Enugu and lifted from there, it will be much cheaper for us and enable us to sell between N160 and N162 per litre.

“We are ready to work with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on the security of pipelines. And fixing the Enugu Depot will also help a better-deregulated sector, which the federal government is pursuing,” Anyaso said.

He called on members of the association in the zone to continue to provide quality services to the people to the best of their ability.

Bill To Address Flooding, Ecological Problems In Anambra Passes Second Reading

A Bill seeking to establish the Riverine Areas Development Commission (RADC) to tackle gross underdevelopment, flooding and ecological problems in communities in Anambra, on Friday scaled second reading at the House of Assembly.

Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, member representing Ogbaru II Constituency and sponsor of the bill, said if it becomes law, it would draw attention of government to the plight of riverine communities in the state.

Udeze said the commission would be saddled with the responsibility of receiving and managing funds allocated by the state government, local and international donors for the intervention, resettlement, rehabilitation of flood victims and affected communities.

“We are aware of the immediate impacts of flooding in communities, especially those in the riverine areas, which include loss of life, damage to property, destruction of crops, loss of livestock, and deterioration of health conditions owing to waterborne diseases.

“These communities, especially those on the River Niger bank, their farmlands, churches, markets and schools are being taken over by flood on yearly basis.

“Every September to December, children do not go to school due to devastating effects of flooding.

“In 2019, about 13 persons died due to flooding in Ogbaru constituency. We can’t continue to turn a blind eye to these problems, it is time we create a commission to look into these problems and address it,” Udeze said

Contributing, Mr Obinna Emeneka (Anambra East), said that communities in the riverine areas were prone to disasters and had continued to suffer neglect by the government.

“On yearly basis, there are funds to intervene and help these communities but these funds are being misappropriated.

“If this commission is established there will be proper coordination, planning and implementation of policies aimed at solving the problems of flood disasters as well as resettlement and rehabilitation of the victims,” Emeneka said.

Also, Mr Douglas Egbuna, (Onitsha North), said the riverine communities had been neglected for too long without any government presence.

“I am very convinced that if this bill becomes law, it would bring succour to these people. I urge my colleagues to ensure this bill gets an accelerated passage,” Egbuna said.

In his view, Mr Lawrence Ezeudu, (Dunukofia), said that when the bill becomes a law, it would expose the underutilised economic potential in the riverine areas.

“This bill is a welcome development because I believe that establishing this commission will help to unlock the tourism potential and other untapped mineral resources in such areas,” he said.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Uche Okafor, while appreciating the contributions of the lawmakers said that the bill would address the sufferings of those residing in riverine communities in the state.

The bill was committed to the joint House Committees on Judiciary and Agriculture, for further deliberation and the committee is to report back in six weeks.

Meanwhile, the Speaker announced that the Assembly would embark on six weeks recess.

“The House will resume plenary on Oct. 15. But committees will continue their work and oversight with ministries, departments and agencies,” he said. (NAN)

*THE CROWN OF LIFE (MARTYR'S CROWN)*

*BIBLE READING: REVELATION 2:10; ACTS 7:54-8:3*

*Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12 (KJV).*

The Crown of Life or Martyr’s Crown is for believers who go through persecutions and various forms of trials for the sake of Christ and His kingdom. These are people that love Jesus so much and are ready to pay any price. People may have mocked them and done all sorts of things to them but they take it in all joy. There are hazardous things people have gone through for the furtherance of the gospel, every single one of them is not going to go unrewarded.

In Revelation, Jesus told one of the churches about the tough and harsh things they were going to suffer for the sake of the gospel. Revelation 2:10(KJV); *"Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."*

The Bible recorded an incident where the apostles of Jesus were being flogged for the sake of the gospel and then something unusual happened. *“…They called in the apostles and had them flogged. Then they ordered them never again to speak in the name of Jesus, and they let them go. The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus." Acts 5:40-41 (NLT).* They saw suffering for Christ as a privilege because they are aiming for one of the highest crowns in heaven.

Matthew 5:11-12 (KJV); *"Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."*

Part of the reward that Jesus promised the people being persecuted for the sake of the gospel is that they will obtain a better resurrection. *Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: Hebrews 11:35 (KJV).*

Those people that pay the ultimate price for the gospel will have a rich welcome into God’s kingdom. Do something tangible for God with your life. *"For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it." Mark 8:35(KJV).*

God’s standard is universal. Whenever you teach people about God’s commandments, never lower God’s standards. Let everyone know God’s standards (children, teenagers, new believers, etc.) and they will adjust their lives to it. If you have never suffered any persecution for the gospel, make sure you aim for the other four crowns: the crown of righteousness, the crown of rejoicing, the crown of glory and the imperishable crown.

*PRAYER
Lord, thank You for the privilege to live for You and the promise of a crown. Whether I live or die for the sake of your word, Lord, give me the grace to do so with faithfulness. Amen.

BONANZA ! BONANZA ! BONANZA !.

MSG Bible John 3: 35-36 says "The Father loves the Son extravagantly. He turned everything over to him so he could give it away - a lavish distribution of gifts. That is why whoever accepts and trusts the Son gets in on everything, life complete and forever !. And that is also why the person who avoids and distrusts the Son is in the dark and doesn't see life. All he experiences of God is darkness, and an angry darkness at that".
