In a letter jointly signed by the National President and Assistant Secretary General of LAWSAN, Emmanuel Eze Nwobodo and Nafisa Abdullahi, respectively, the law students disclosed that the award, which they said was unanimously endorsed, is in recognition of Gov. Ugwuanyi’s track-record and contributions to Nigerian Legal Education in particular and leadership in general.

They added that the recognition is “in view of your standing as a deserving contributor to that which concerns youths, coupled with your inspirational personality”.

According to them, “we have unanimously concluded that you (Ugwuanyi) indeed represent all that every student, and of course this Association labours to achieve and we graciously seek to have you in attendance as we have chosen you to be the distinguished awardee as the Governor of the Year.

“Your Excellency, it is our culture to meritoriously honour Distinguished Governors who have contributed to legal education and as well assisted in raising the hands and heads of students at challenging points in their life and this year is not an exception.

“In consideration, we are confronted with a long list of Governors. However, we have strategically followed your track-record and as well conducted a strict due diligence on your contributions to Nigerian Legal Education and leadership generally.

“Consequent upon which you have emerged our credible choice as a distinguished guest and awardee at the event of the forthcoming National LAWSAN Convention billed to hold on the 11th September, 2020, at the Zeus Paradise Hotel, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja”

The law students who noted that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Ababakar Malami are past awardees, appreciated Gov. Ugwuanyi for the Bursary allowance, his administration recently granted to 246 students of the state at the Nigeria Law School, among other remarkable contributions to the Legal Profession as well as Nigerian Legal Education “through your interests in students’ activities”.

Python Bites Thai Teenager On His Penis While Sitting On Toilet (Pix, Video)

A Thai teenager, identified as Siraphop Masukarat, has been hospitalized after a python snake bit the tip of his penis as he sat on the toilet seat.

The 18 year old went to the loo on Tuesday evening, when he felt an intense pain on his manhood. As he looked down, he saw that the snake had bitten the tip of his penis, with blood spurted on the toilet bowl.

This unfortunate incident took place in Nonthaburi, central Thailand, around 13 miles north of Bangkok.

Siraphop ran out of the toilet with his pants halfway down. On sighting him, his mother called paramedics who rushed him to the nearby Bang Yai Hospital to have his wounded penis treated.

Doctors stitched the tip of the penis and treated the bite wound with antibiotic wash, to kill any bacteria from the python’s fangs.

ASUU Protest Years Of Unpaid Entitlements In UniCal

Placard-carrying members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Calabar Chapter, Wednesday, protested over years of unpaid entitlements and salaries.

Some of the placards carried inscriptions such as ‘pay our CES arrears, pay our GSS arrears, pay our post graduate thesis supervision, pay our promotion arrears, pay our study fellowship and conference attendance arrears.’

Chairman of ASUU, UNICAL chapter, John Edor, who addressed Journalists during the protest said the unpaid salaries and arrears range from between 4 to 6 years depending on the sub head, and that they have been asking for their arrears, saying the COVID-19 pandemic and IPPIS monster compounded their ‘vagaries and vissititutes.

He said “Our grievances are that for a number of years now members of ASUU, University of Calabar Chapter have been working and our entitlements have not been paid to us. Such entitlements include teaching of GSS Courses, Graduate Thesis Supervision Allowance, CES Courses, Sandwich programmes, Pre-degree and promotion arrears.

“Some of our members had been employed and they commenced payment of their salaries but a backlog of their salaries is left unpaid and that is what we call salary arrears. Even if the federal government has refused to pay our salaries, what we have earned which is not one, two, or three but some are running into five, six years should be immediately paid to us.

“We have been asking for our entitlements for long but the COVID-19 pandemic has compounded our vagaries and vissititutes. The lock down has made it impossible for us to go and source for other legitimate means of livelihood to feed our families.”

According to him, the protest was only the beginning, saying they are bent on embarking on ‘Operation Occupy UNICAL’ if their entitlements are not paid.

No member of the institution’s management was on ground to address the protesting lecturers probably due to the fact that the institution was currently in the final stages of selecting a new Vice Chancellor to replace the outgoing Professor Zana Akpagu.

Foundation Honours Lalude, Nigerian Who Rejected $6m BribeFoundation Honours Lalude, Nigerian Who Rejected $6m Bribe

The the Akinjide Adeosun Foundation (AAF) has conferred its 2020 Leadership Award on the first Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO), Dr Olufemi Lalude.

This comes decades after Lalude, who is also an Engineer, rejected a 6 million dollar bribe offer, the foundation said in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

The award, “Leadership in Integrity’’ was conferred on Lalude, now 81, during the AAF 5th annual colloquium with the theme: “Integrity – A Sine Qua Non to Building a Prosperous Nation’’.

Speaking at the event which held virtually, Mr Akinjide Adeosun, AAF’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer of St. Rachael’s Pharmaceutical Nigeria Ltd., said the recognition of Lalude was is in line with the core mandate of the foundation.

The core mandate is based on the belief that life would be good for everyone if the nation gets leadership right in all spheres.

“Integrity is an essential building block to building a prosperous nation. Truthfulness, honesty, respect for people, hard work and humility are traits of Integrity.

“Many years ago, our awardee, Papa Olufemi Lalude, the first managing director of the Shell Nigeria Exploration & production Company SNEPCO was offered a bribe of 6 million dollars.

“The organisation that offered him the bribe moved against him. However, he refused to be cowed and stood his ground.

“He was sued with his employer but he triumphed. Lalude is a man of integrity, a rarity in our clime dwarfed by corruption and greed.

“Today, Papa at 81 is living a peaceful, joyous and fulfilled contented life.’’

He adds: “We are celebrating him today. He began his career with integrity as his legacy in mind.

“ We have many good people in Nigeria. We must celebrate them to dwarf the bad publicity the few bad people is giving our nation.”

In his presentation, Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said that Nigeria would continue to find it difficult to grow without putting structures in place to strengthen openness, truthfulness and transparency in leadership.

According to him, the absence of a structure for checks and balances is likely to continue to stunt the growth of the country.

“There is a large trust gap between the citizens and leaders of this country due to lack of transparency on the part of the political class.

“When we talk about integrity in governance, it entails honesty, transparency and accountability in governance.

“Integrity is tied to prosperity of any nation in so many ways and as a leader, you have to be very honest,” he said.

The foundation called on leaders in government to drive patriotism and prosperity by upholding trust and demonstrating transparency.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants from across the globe joined the virtual event.

Speakers at the event unanimously said that the nation had lost its old value system by embracing dishonorable practices and lack of accountability in all spheres across the family, school, business, government and society levels.

A communiqué was also issued which stressed that integrity and honesty remain the collective responsibility to save Nigeria. (NAN)

De Bruyne Wins PFA Player Of The Season Award

Kevin De Bruyne has been voted the PFA Players’ Player of the year for the 2019-20 season, with the midfielder becoming the first Manchester City player to win the award since its inception in 1974.

Despite finishing the season with a winner’s medal in only the Carabao Cup, De Bruyne beat out competition from four of Liverpool‘s Premier League title-winning squad — Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and last season’s winner, Virgil van Dijk — and City teammate Raheem Sterling to claim the honour.

In the Women’s game, Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp was named Young Player of the Year, while Chelsea’s Beth England lifted the Women’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

The PFA award, which is voted for by players from all four divisions in the English game, is the second individual prize handed to De Bruyne for his contribution during the 2019-20 campaign. The former Chelsea player was named last month as the Premier League Player of the Season.

Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, claimed the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

The 21-year-old England international topped the vote ahead of fellow nominees Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Bukayo Saka.

Alexander-Arnold is the first Liverpool player to be crowned Young Player of the Year since Steven Gerrard won the award in 2001.

Despite missing out on the young player honour, Manchester United forward Rashford was named as the PFA Merit Award winner following his work off the pitch in recent months aimed at helping to ensure free meals for under-privileged school children during the summer holidays.

Team of the Year:

Nick Pope (Burnley); Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson (all Liverpool), Caglar Soyuncu (Leicester City); Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva (both Manchester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool); Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Salah Misses Out In PFA Premier League Team Of The Year

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has joined Sadio Mane in the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Team of the Year, with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah not included in a star-studded XI.

Despite scoring 19 times and recording the most shots (132) in the 2019-20 season, the Egypt international seems not to have done enough to merit a place in the selection.

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool dominate the selection, with Jurgen Klopp’s side seeing their efforts recognised in what was a record-setting campaign for the Reds.

In 35 appearances, Mane found the net 18 times in the English top-flight while providing seven assists. Little wonder he leads a three-man attacking setup that has Aubameyang and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy who won the Golden Boot prize with 23 strikes.

For Auba, 31, who has finished as Arsenal’s top scorer for each of the past two seasons, he got 22 Premier League goals, albeit, Mikel Arteta’s men finished in a disappointing eighth position having accrued 56 points from 38 games.

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne who received the PFA Player of the Year award is picked alongside teammate David Silva and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson in the midfield of the selection.0:1416

Virgil van Dijk, who was taken to Anfield in a £75 million ($97m) deal in January 2018, has been a revelation on Merseyside. His performances contributed significantly to Klopp’s side breaking their Premier League jinx.

The Netherlands international is partnered at the heart of the PFA team’s defence by Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu, with Andrew Robertson on the left and Trent Alexander-Arnold lining up on the right.

Behind them, Nick Pope of Burnley gets the nod over Manchester City’s Ederson despite the goalkeeper boasting more clean sheets than the Englishman.

Uzodimma Signs Two Developmental Bills Into Law

Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo has signed two bills aimed at improving on the development of the state into law.

One is to establish the Imo State Micro, Small and Medium Industries Development Agency and other related matters, and the second is to establish a Bureau to coordinate, supervise and monitor projects undertaken by donors or development partners in Imo State and other related matters.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Oguwike Nwachukwu, the governor said the bills mark yet another milestone in the administration’s efforts to ensure the development and growth of the state.

He listed objectives of the bills to include the empowerment of local artisans, specification of standards for them and ensuring that products being delivered to the markets are not only hygienic but fit for human consumption.

Uzodimma said the bills were necessary for establishing a body to supervise local manufacturing, entrepreneurship skills, private sector-driven activity and government intervention.

He also stressed the need for a bureau that would coordinate all interventions to ensure the proper management and implementation of the policies and ensure that the state derived the most value for them.

He regretted that the prior interventions from the World Bank, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), French and other development partners, in form of water, erosion control, rural developments, rural roads had no records or commensurate impact on the people.

The governor encouraged the international organisations to continue with their empowerment programmes bearing in mind that more coordinated, efficient and effective administrative organs had been put in place to satisfy their expectations.

The governor also commended the leadership of the House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the executive bills.

Earlier, while presenting the bill for the governor’s assent, the Speaker, Dr Chiji Collinssaid the bills had undergone all stages of legislative work.

Chiji said the first bill establishing an agency that would be a “vanguard Agency and focal point for rural industrialisation, poverty alleviation and eradication, technology acquisition and adaptation, as well as job creation and sustainable livelihood.”

He added that the agency would regulate activities of micro, small and medium scale industries in the state and ensure that goods manufactured were of high quality.

The speaker also said that the bills would go a long way in helping with the development of the state, while reiterating the readiness of the state legislature to work with the executive to move the state forward.(NAN)

*DOMINION MANDATE DAILY DEVOTIONAL*

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2020

*THE CROWN OF GLORY*

*BIBLE READING:1PETER 5:1-4; JOHN 10:11-17*

*"Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the Church of God which He purchased with His Own Blood" Acts 20:28(NKJV).*

The Lord Jesus Christ has called all believers in Him to be priests and kings; one major function of kingship is rulership or administration of God's Universe which even transcends time (2Timothy 2:12). As we have understood from previous devotionals, a crown is evidence of our qualification to reign with Christ, hence, we will be studying the Crown of Glory.

Also referred to as the Shepherd's Crown, the Crown of Glory is Jesus' reward to those who have been faithful in spiritual oversight; in other words, this is His reward to those who faithfully execute the office of a spiritual elder or pastor(specifically) and those who faithfully look after a group or groups of believers placed under their care(generally).

People who qualify are those who manifest the Attributes of the Good Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, Who feeds and cares for His sheep; this involves having a pastoral heart (John 21:15-17). The way someone can prophesy without being called into the office of a prophet or win souls without being an evangelist is the same way someone can care for and groom people spiritually without being called a pastor; in other words, any disciple of Christ can qualify for the Crown of Glory provided he is willing to pay the price.

King David, even after he was established as king over all of Israel, was willing to lay down his life and the lives of his family members in order to avert the plague that came as a result of his unauthorized census of Israel; he was a mighty king, but was always a shepherd at heart, appealing on behalf of his subjects, pleading with God and asking: "but these sheep, what have they done?"(2Samuel 24:17NKJV). Only a genuine pastor would think that way.

The Scripture admonishes us to diligently know the state of our flocks and attend to our herds for "RICHES are not forever nor does A CROWN endure to all generations"(Proverbs 27:23-24). From the aforementioned verses, we can see two major wrong motives for entering the pastoral office:
1) Riches or Wealth: We are called to provide spiritual oversight not for the income but rather the outcome; funny enough, the former is dependent on the latter.
2) A Crown or Popularity: We don't get involved in pastoral ministry for fame and accolades; on the contrary, when we lift Jesus in the lives of our people, He will draw all men, including faithful pastors, unto Himself (John 12:32). In other words, as we exalt the Lord Jesus in the sight of those we oversee, He exalts us in their sight. The onus lies upon us to cultivate the Heart of the Good Shepherd that we may receive at His appearing the Crown of Glory: "...that does not fade away"-1Peter 5:4(NKJV).

*PRAYER
•Heavenly Father, thank You for being our Chief Shepherd; I ask that You instill within us the pastoral heart that we may genuinely care for Your sheep.Thank pYou for this, O Lord, in Jesus' Mighty Name.

*CONFESSION
•I am a genuine shepherd, not a hireling.

•My motive for pastoring is the outcome of their spiritual lives, not the income I covet from them.
