Barbara Tommey: Family Announces Burial Plans For Woman Killed By Pastor Ofori

The family of Barbara Tommey, 27, who was allegedly murdered in the US by her husband Pastor Sylvester Ofori has announced she will be buried on September 26, Igbere TV reports.

Ofori, a Ghanaian, shot his wife seven times on September 8 in front of her office in the US city of Orlando, Florida, according to the police.

Sister to the deceased Sophia Tommey revealed that Ofori killed his wife because she started divorce proceedings against him.

Speaking in Twii language during a radio show on Accra-based Hitz FM monitored by us, Sophia said Barbara moved out of her matrimonial home three months ago because she and her husband were no longer in agreement.

Ofori, 35, is the pastor of Floodgates of Heaven located at Coburn Avenue, Orlando.

He is currently in police custody on charge of first-degree murder after CCTV cameras caught him in the act.

According to Orlando Court records obtained by Igbere TV, Ofori was arrested in 2016 after a fight between him and his wife.

Sophia said Ofori killed her sister because he knew he would lose everything if the divorce process is completed.

Igbere TV reports that a video had gone viral days after the shooting showing Ofori threatening to kill Barbara.

Ofori held Kweku Perry, the deceased’s brother, by the neck and said: “If I don’t kill your sister then I am fake”.

He had also made posts on Facebook with harsh tones during the divorce process.

Friends and family members of the late Barbara had advised her to report the death threats but she refused on the grounds that she feared he would be deported.

The family said an early burial would help them get over the pain, Igbere TV reports

Oyegun Refuses To Endorse Ize-iyamu, Asks Edo People To Vote Their Conscience

John Oyegun, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has refused to endorse Osagie Ize-Iyamu, his party’s candidate in the Edo governorship election.

In a statement he issued on Monday, Oyegun rejected what he described as “primitive politics”, calling on the people of Edo to vote their conscience.

He criticised the “forced exit” of Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, from the APC, saying the governor suffered “unacceptable indignity” while standing for the people.

“My views and statements on the Edo state political situation have been consistent. I strongly advised against the mistreatment of Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki by the late unlamented National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC. Governor Obaseki stood bravely for the dignity and pride of his people and in the process suffered unacceptable indignities,” the statement read.

“In the matter of who governs Edo State, the people are sovereign and no individual or group of people, whatever their status, can decide on their behalf.

“I stand with the people of Edo State and urge them to to come out massively to exercise their democratic rights. They should vote for good governance, common decency, principled leadership, especially in the political arena and the protection of their democratic rights.

“They should by their votes make clear that it is their right to choose their governor and nobody else’s. There is no room for fence sitters. This is a special situation and primitive loyalties should and must be set aside. Remember Mr President’s admonition in an equally challenging pre-election situation in Imo State, “vote your conscience.”

US Imposed Visa Restrictions On Nigerians Undermining Electoral Processes by Racoon(m): 7:50pm On Sep 14
US DEPARTMENT OF STATE

PRESS STATEMENT

MORGAN ORTAGUS, DEPARTMENT SPOKESPERSON

SEPTEMBER 14, 2020

The United States is a steadfast supporter of Nigerian democracy. We commend all those Nigerians who participated in elections throughout 2019 and have worked to strengthen Nigerian democratic institutions and processes.

We remain committed to working together to advance democracy and respect for human rights and achieve greater peace and prosperity for both our nations. We condemn the acts of violence, intimidation, or corruption that harmed Nigerians and undermined the democratic process.

As the Edo and Ondo State off-cycle elections near, we urge all stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission, the political parties, and the security services, to uphold the tenets of democracy and facilitate genuinely free and fair elections, conducted in an appropriately transparent and non-violent manner.

In a statement on January 24, 2019, the U.S. Government said we would consider consequences – including visa restrictions – for individuals responsible for undermining the Nigerian democratic process or for organizing election-related violence. In July 2019, we announced the imposition of visa restrictions on Nigerians who undermined the February and March 2019 elections.

Today, the Secretary of State is imposing additional visa restrictions on individuals for their actions surrounding the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa State elections and in the run up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo State elections. These individuals have so far operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and have undermined democratic principles.

The Department of State emphasizes that the actions announced today are specific to certain individuals and not directed at the Nigerian people. This decision reflects the Department of State’s commitment to working with the Nigerian government to realize its expressed commitment to end corruption and strengthen democracy, accountability, and respect for human rights.

Fatal Arrogance: Pete Edochie Threatened Over 'Shiites' Movie As Terrorists .

Nollywood Actor, Pete Edochie, Alleges Threat To Life For Featuring In Movie Portraying Shiites As Terrorists

Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has alleged threats to his life over his involvement in a multi-million naira movie sponsored by the Nigerian Army aimed at depicting the Islamic Movement in Nigeria as a terrorist organisation.

SaharaReporters gathered that the movie titled “Fatal Arrogance” was sponsored by the Nigerian Army as part of a cover up of the December 2015 massacre of Shiites by soldiers.

Over 348 people were said to have been killed, with 347 bodies secretly buried by the army in a mass grave during that incident.

In the movie shot in Enugu State and produced by Anosike Kingsley Orji, Edochie was featured in a role with an outfit resembling Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the IMN, who has been in detention since December 2015.

Reacting in a 12-minute video following the backlash that has greeted the movie production, the Nollywood actor claimed that he was not aware of the theme and script of the film before accepting the contract to feature in it.

He disclosed that he also minimised his role in the film production as a guest actor and asked Nigerians not to condemn the movie until it was released.

He said, “I don’t understand what the IMN is driving at. The film we shot is not even out, it has not been edited, the production is not complete.

“If they have complained to the Inspector-General of Police, and the IGP says give me a copy of the film, what are we going to do because the film is not in existence yet, it is not in circulation.

“I am supposed to have played a role that ridiculed their boss, chief, whoever is in charge of their group.

“I am suggesting that you wait, keep your gunpowder dry, when the film is released, you can now make your grumbles known to the Inspector-General of Police.

“Whatever is being done now is premature, it is not proper.

“Fatal Arrogance, whatever it is, whatever it deals with, I think the best thing to do is to wait until the production comes out.”

The veteran actor went ahead to raise the alarm over the threat to his life for acting in the controversial movie.

He added, “I did not write it, the film was produced by Kingsley Orji Anosike. If you want to express resentment over the production, which you have not watched, direct your grievances to the producer of the film not to Pete Edochie who is a mere actor, it does not concern me.

“I thank all those people who out of concern informed me of the campaign of deliberation of my person, the organised threat of my person by IMN, I thank you all. I’m a free born of Nigeria, I was born and raised in Nigeria. I’m not going to run away from Nigeria because a few individuals think they want things done in their own way.”
