*THE UNTOUCHABLES (2)*

*BIBLE READING: EZEKIEL 9, ISAIAH 60:1-4*

*And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. Ezekiel 9:5-6(KJV)*

A major sign of the times and season we are living in according to the Lord Jesus, is that iniquity shall abound (Matt. 24:12). This scripture is already being fulfilled in our time. There are incidences you hear today about the acts of men that cause you to be amazed at how truly reprobate men have become. Local and global news channels and platforms are rife with news of such gory acts on a daily basis. These abominations are on the rise just as Isaiah the great prophet prophesied, that darkness and gross darkness shall cover the people and the nations respectively.

Darkness refers to evil not just the absence of light. Anywhere there is darkness satan rules and all forms of evil work are manifested in darkness. From child molestation to incest, gruesome murders for political and financial purpose, sexual perversion, idolatry and occultism, the list is endless. Just when you are about to have a sigh of relief something else comes up that leaves you wondering what has become of man today? All of these abominations are not hidden from God, He sees them all. The increase in evil activities opens up the nations and people for judgement as we see in Ezekiel 9. However, a group of people are exempted from judgement by God Himself.

To belong to this class of people, you must be standing with God, not just in confession but in action. He said to the Angel, spare those who mourn and cry over these abominations that go on in the city. This implies those who are unhappy with the state of things and constantly bring up intercession before God over these atrocities. You cannot live in the society and not be bothered by the ongoing evil. We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. If you refuse to shine you will be overcome by the forces of darkness. Shining and bringing the light of God into the darkness begins with burning on our knees in the place of prayer.

Let your heart be pierced and broken by the abominations going on. Let these things touch you and move you to cry out to God. This is the key to revival and protection when judgement is visited upon the land. Let there be pity in your heart for the wicked and compassion for the vulnerable and the oppressed. This should move you to pray that those who commit these acts will be arrested by the Holy Spirit and also that their victims would be delivered.

Your peace is dependent also on the peace of your environment. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee (Psalm 122:6 KJV). And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace (Jer.29:7 KJV). There can be peace where iniquity abounds. If you deal with sin as an intercessor the nations will know peace and you will know peace.

*PRAYER POINT
Bring repentance for all the abominations going on in the city where you live and cry out to God for mercy upon the land. Pray with Daniel 9:3-19.

Bundesliga club Mainz have sacked coach Achim Beierlorzer after a turbulent week which included a players’ strike and a 4-1 defeat to newly promoted VfB Stuttgart.

Mainz players went on strike on Wednesday after forward Adam Szalai was demoted to the reserve team and told to look for a new club. Although the squad returned to training the following day, Mainz were not able to recover in time for the next match.

Bundesliga | Bundesliga 2019/20 season so far: an overview

Mainz suffered a heavy home defeat at the hands of Stuttgart on Saturday after they lost 3-1 at RB Leipzig on the first match day of the season.

“I am disappointed by the club’s decision,” Beierlorzer said in a statement on the club website.

“Regardless, I wish Mainz 05 and the team all the best for the future.”

Mainz also said assistant coach Jan-Moritz Lichte would take charge of the side until further notice.

Beierlorzer becomes the second Bundesliga manager to be sacked this season after Schalke parted ways with David Wagner on Sunday following 18 games without a win.

It is the first time in the league’s history where two clubs will go into matchday three with new managers.

AGRICULTURE

The Cross River Government has acquired 10,000 hectares of land across the state for cultivation of Cocoa in the 2020/2021 planting season.Dr Oscar Ofuka, Special Adviser to the Governor on Cocoa Development and Control, disclosed this on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar.

Ofuka spoke in reaction to an award of honour given him by the Shallom Ministry, Calabar, in recognition of his efforts at revamping the Cocoa industry in the state.

He said that Gov. Ben Ayade was committed to revitalising the ailing Cocoa industry in the state with a view to making it an alternative source of revenue.According to him, Cocoa is one of the cardinal points of the government’s Agriculture Revolution programme.

He commended the governor for foresight in making agriculture the mainstay of the state’s economy, saying that the sector had been neglected for long.“Agriculture has been neglected for too long. It is time Nigerians return to agriculture.

“Our youths, irrespective of sex or place of origin should return to agriculture rather than parade the streets in search of white collar jobs that rarely exist.“Cocoa production is the new gold in Cross River, ” Ofuka said.

He thanked the ministry for the award, saying that he was dedicating it to the governor as a mark of appreciation for his passion for Cocoa production.

Ofuka urged residents of the state to support the state government by keying into Cocoa farming.“Let us all work together so that we can take our pride of place as the highest Cocoa producing state in Nigeria,” he said.

Ofuka said that unless something would done by the people of the state to boost cocoa production, the ultra modern cocoa factory built by the present administration might be under utilised.

He called on farmers in the state to embrace the cultivation of improved variety of cocoa crop with a gestation period of 18 months rather than rely on the old breed.

The special adviser said that all the Cross River Cocoa Estates which were in comatose had been revived particularly in Akim Osomba Community in Akamkpa Local Government Area where 3,800 hectares had been acquired by the government for cocoa cultivation.(NAN)

Ex-Delta Gov Returns To PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta chapter, on Monday, commended the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, for returning to the party.

The party, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, described the move as ‘timely and a sort of homecoming’.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that Uduaghan, a two-term governor of the state under the platform of PDP, had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2018.

Receiving the former governor, the PDP said it was a home-coming, adding that the umbrella was big enough to accommodate everyone.
“We are excited that our former governor is back home. Politics is about the people. Recent political developments in Nigeria have also shown that power and relevance come from the people.

“This is in addition to the fast-changing political atmosphere in the country. And the Uduaghan we know is not unmindful of these facts.
“As a political party, we fully appreciate the fact that his return back home may also not be unconnected with the desire to be reunited with his friends, political soul mates and supporters.

“However, it is gratifying to note that our great party is again making deep and appreciable inroads into the political space.
“Our inclusive politics, consensus building disposition, egalitarianism, good governance records, patriotism and all the qualities that distinguish us from others, are already speaking for us.

“Therefore, we are very happy to welcome our former governor and all the returning party members back into our fold,” the party said.
It also promised to be fair to all “as we prepare to rebuild our battered country.”

According to PDP, there could not have been a better time to join hands and begin the process of reconstruction and reconciliation than now.
The party said that if offered hope with its liberal and forward-looking leaders across the country ‘in this season of uncertainties’.

It said that the return of Uduaghan and other PDP stalwarts would significantly energise the ongoing efforts at rebuilding the country. (NAN)

JAF, ASCAB Protest Against Suspension Of Strike By NLC, TUC

The Joint Action Front (JAF) and Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCA, Oyo State branch, on Monday, staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan against the suspension of strike by the organised labour.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had, in the early hours of Monday, suspended the strike over increase in petroleum pump price and electricity tariff.

NAN also reports that the suspension of the strike was sequel to the agreement reached by the labour unions with the Federal Government on the contentious issues.
The protest, which began from the NLC secretariat in Ibadan, moved through Agodi-Gate, Oje, Yemetu and terminated at the Government Secretariat.

NAN reports that security personnel were stationed in strategic locations within Ibadan metropolis to prevent breakdown of law and order.
Addressing newsmen, the ASCAB Vice Chairman in the state, Mr Femi Aborisade, said that the group was against the resolution entered into by the leaderships of the NLC and TUC.

Aborisade said that the labour unions had, with their actions, betrayed the general interest of the Nigerian masses.
He said that a Federal High Court had, in 2013 and 2016, declared the increment of petroleum pump price and electricity tariff as illegal and unconstitutional.

He said that the leaderships of TUC and NLC were supposed to have briefed Nigerians on the outcome of their meeting and gauged the feedback from them before announcing the suspension of the strike.
Aborisade called on the Federal Government to follow the rule of law and reverse the petroleum pump price and the electricity tariff for the benefit of the masses.

In his reaction, the state Coordinator of JAF, Prof. Ademola Aremu noted that the protest was to show the grievances of the people against the increase in fuel price and electricity tariff which, he said, had resulted in astronomical rise in the prices of foodstuffs and other commodities.
The coordinator called on the Federal Government to fulfill its promise of fixing the country’s refineries and reducing the prices of petroleum products.

However, some residents of Ibadan, who spoke with NAN on the suspension of the strike, urged the Federal Government to honour the agreement reached with labour in the interest of Nigerians.

A civil servant, Mr Isiaka Arowole, said that he was in support of the suspension of the strike, provided the Federal Government would honour the agreement reached with labour and improve on the living standards of the people.

Arowole called on government to address the hike in the prices of foodstuffs in the country in order to reduce the suffering of Nigerians.
A taxi driver, Mr Tajudeen Adewale, said he was delighted with the suspension of the strike by the labour unions, stressing that the strike would have had negative effect on his daily income. (NAN)

900 Youths Benefits From NDE Skills Training Exercise In C’River

No fewer than 900 youths from across the eighteen local government areas of Cross River state are benefiting from the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) vocational skill development programme.

The NDE Director General, Dr Nasiru Ladan Argungu, who flagged off the programme in Calabar at the weekend, said 50 youths were recruited from each of the 18 council areas of the State.

Argungu explained that the informal sector contributes significantly to the growth of every nation’s economy and that the sector plays the role of stimulating the economy, promoting flexible labour markets and stimulating productive activities, amongst others.

“It is important to explain here that in this year training, 50 unemployed youths are being recruited per local government of Cross River’s 18 LGAs to be trained in skills that are trending in their locality. This includes fashion design, hair dressing, fabrication, welding etc, it is my hope that those trained would put in all that is needed on their part to make the exercise a success,” he stated.

The NDE also empowered100 trainees in agricultural skills in Ikom local government area of the State, under its Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS), saying it was doing so to turn them to commercial farmers, create more jobs, provide adequate and dependable farm income and also reduce commodity importation as well as conserve external reserve.

The Director General, who was represented by Sylvester Ekemhonye, said the exercise was taking place in the 36 states of the federation but warned that “the NDE of today has zero tolerance for corruption and will not entertain any indulgence from staff,” but added that hard work and diligent would be rewarded.

In his remarks, the Cross River state Coordinator of NDE, Gabriel Udam, said the Basic Open National Apprenticeship Scheme of the NDE in 2020 was aimed at curbing unemployment scourge in the Nigerian society.

“I am particularly delighted because we are having a gathering of Nigerians from all fields of endeavour united for a common goal, which is to ameliorate unemployment,” he stated, and enjoined beneficiaries to justify the federal government investment in the exercise.

He also explained that empowering 100 youths in agriculture was to increase mass production of agricultural products and that the concept was born out of the desire of the federal government to ensure that unemployed youths of the country were exposed to the heights of self reliance through agric-production, marketing and storage.

Lawan: It Is Petty To Say Corruption Thrives Under This Government

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has said those insinuating that graft and corrupt tendencies are more prevalent under the Muhammadu Buhari administration are being political and petty.

Lawan said this on Monday while addressing State House Correspondents after the second National Summit on Diminishing Corruption and launch of the National Ethics and Integrity Policy by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The Senate President noted that when prosecution of a case of corrupt practice drags into years, such is an indication that something is wrong and a tacit support for corruption.

According to him, no government in the history of Nigeria has hinged its campaigns on fighting corruption like the present administration.

Lawan said: “I don’t know who they are and I don’t know what their facts are. But I will not speak to speculations; I speak to facts. I want to see the facts that there’s more corruption in this administration than the previous administrations.

“You will recall that in a particular former administration, we know that somebody once said that what people accused the government of corruption was simple stealing. This administration does not see anything that appears like corruption or thievery and leaves it untreated. So, I believe it depends on who is talking.

“If you have an opposition, it is likely the opposition will tell you there’s so much ‘persecution’ of the opposition, that there’s so much corruption in this administration than the previous one. But we know the previous administrations.

“Let me be a bit more decent and may be non-political. But I want to tell you that this administration has done so well because we campaigned on the basis of three pillars of anti-corruption, the fight against insurgency and insecurity across the country and the revitalisation of our economy.

“So, no administration or political party, in the history of Nigeria that fought its campaigns on the basis of fighting corruption in Nigeria. In fact, there were administrations that never mentioned corruption in their entire tenure.

“This administration has stood firmly, trying to fight corruption, and I want to believe that those who are saying there’s more corruption in Nigeria today than before are simply trying to be partisan or petty.”
