3 Police Officers Returning To Lagos From Edo Election Die In An Accident

Three policemen have lost their lives in a crash that occurred on the Benin-Ore Expressway in Ondo State while returning from a national assignment in Edo State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the policemen were on their way home following the conclusion of the governorship election in Edo State when the vehicle conveying them and their colleagues to Lagos State was involved in an accident in Ore, Ondo State.

While their colleagues survived, with some sustaining varying degrees of injury, the corpses of the three policemen were recovered from the scene of the accident.

The corpses were said to have been deposited in the Ore General Hospital’s mortuary.

It was learnt that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, on Sunday, September 13, 2020, deployed 1,000 policemen to complement the personnel deployed in Edo State by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

A policeman, who was in the vehicle and spoke on condition of anonymity, said he and his colleagues spent a week in Edo State for the election and had completed their assignment and were on their way back to their stations in Lagos when the accident, which claimed the lives of the officers, occurred last Sunday.

He said, “An accident claimed three policemen while on our way back from election duties in Edo State last Sunday, September 20, 2020. One of the victims was Corporal Oluwafemi Adeyanju, an indigene of Ondo State, where the accident occurred. The other two policemen were inspectors. I was also deployed in Edo State for the election and we had completed the national assignment and were coming home when the accident happened in Ore and three of my colleagues were killed.

“Apart from the three policemen, who died on the spot, others sustained varying degrees of injury. The family of Adeyanju has gone to claim his remains and buried him in his home town of Akure; we don’t know about the rest of the victims. When we were departing for Edo State, more than 80 buses parked outside the gate of the police command’s headquarters in Ikeja and conveyed us to Edo State.”

Another policeman, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro that the government abandoned them after completing their assignment in Edo State, adding that all the policemen deployed in the state for the election had to find their way back home by themselves.

He said, “We left the command headquarters around 2pm on Sunday, September 13, 2020, and spent a week before the election on Saturday, September 19, 2020, and we returned on Sunday. It was the Federal Government that was responsible for our transportation to Edo State, but we were abandoned after the completion of the assignment and had to return back to base by ourselves.

“I paid my transport fare back home, because I couldn’t remain in Edo State and I thank God that I travelled for the assignment and returned home safely. It was not a small journey; out of the 1,000 policemen deployed in Edo State, only three could not make it back home and some others got injured. The police authorities should find a way to honour their sacrifice while serving the nation.”

Adeyanju, popularly known as Two Sure, was said to be 35-year-old and was reportedly survived by his wife, children, sisters and aged father.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said he would get back our correspondent but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report despite repeated calls and a text message sent to his mobile telephone line.

Footballer's Wife Hires $1.2 Million Hitman To Kill Her Husband In Order To Inherit His Fortune

Turkish football WAG Yagmur Asik has been accused of plotting to have her husband murdered by a $1.2 million hitman, according to reports.

Yagmur, 27, married ex-Turkey international Emre Asik in 2012, with the couple since having three children together. But after Yagmur was accused of having an affair, Asik, 46, began the process of filing for divorce.

Turkish paper Hurriyet, however, claims Yagmur subsequently decided to have her husband murdered.

In documents claimed to have been taken from the public prosecutor’s office, Yagmur’s lover Erdi Sungur alleges that she initially tried to get him to commit the killing before instead turning to a paid assassin.

Sungur told prosecutors: “I had an affair with Yagmur. She was only thinking of inheriting the fortune after Emre Asık’s death. She asked me to kill him, but I refused.

“Once she brought me a piece of meat. She wanted me to shoot the meat. I did attempt to shoot, but I squinted. ‘You can’t do it,’ she yelled angrily.”

After being confronted over not being able to carry out the crime himself, Sungur is alleged to have contacted the contract killer.

The documents claim Yagmur provided a weapon for the assassin and even tried to assist in finding a way to dispose of the body.

But before the murder could take place, the contract killer blew the plan by having a change of heart and revealing everything to Asik.

Yagmur and Sungur now find themselves in custody awaiting trial for attempted murder.

Sokoto State Government Disbands State Sharia Court

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has disbanded the Sokoto State Hisbah police and halted all its activities over alleged power tuzzle and factionalization.

The Hisbah board in the state has been rocked by crisis for so many years as three persons have been simultaneously claiming to be leaders of the committee without the government's approval.

A statement issued on Saturday, September 26, by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Muhammad Bello, said a 36-men committee was inaugurated by the Governor to re-organize and harmonize the activities of Hisbah in the state.

The committee is led by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaid, Secretary the Permanent Secretary in the state's Cabinet Affairs office, Alhaji Bande Rikina as the secretary.

Other members comprise of Islamic scholars, security agents, representatives of the Sultanate Council, civil society groups, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry for Justice, Women in Daawa, the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN), the Muslim Students Society (MSS) among others.

Speaking at the event, Governor Tambuwal said the inauguration of the committee became necessary because of the need to have a legitimate structure that will perform the activities of the Hisba according to law.

Junaid Mohammed: Oshiomhole’s Character Responsible For His Political Downfall

Junaid Mohammed, elder statesman and Second Republic House of Representatives member on Sunday said Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s intemperate character is largely responsible for his political downfall both in the APC and Edo state.

Junaid who spoke in an interview with Daily Independent, said Oshiomhole should accept full responsibility for the defeat of the APC in the Edo governorship election as well as Zamfara and Rivers.

While condemning politics of godfatherism in Nigeria, Junaid said it is insulting for Oshiomhole to appear in a video saying he wasn’t politically down after APC’s loss while should have taken a sober introspection into what led to the party’s defeat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“I am not that close to Oshiomhole but I have observed him at close range and I have told those people who are either his friends or those who have been with him in the trade union movement and in the political party that, with his attitude towards politics and his intemperate character, the way he believes that he must have his way otherwise, he is prepared to set the whole building on fire, it will be very difficult for him to make headway in politics especially in this country”.

“No matter how much of a thug he thinks he is, there are people who are worse than him in thuggery”.

“Secondly, a leader is made and unmade by his character. Clearly, from what I have read and heard people say, Oshiomhole’s character is not conducive to winning and managing a national office whether in politics, business or even in trade union movement”.

“I know two people; one was Oshiomhole’s personal friend in the trade union movement. Another one was his deputy when he first became President of the NLC. They are hardly on speaking terms today. That says a lot about his immaturity and overrating himself that whatever he says must come to pass”.

“There is a question I have always asked people who are close to Oshiomhole. What has he got to offer politically? I want to be told what has he done in his life that is so spectacular that makes him consider himself indispensable”.

“What has happened is that APC has completely lost the South-South and Oshiomhole bears major responsibility for that. In addition, he is directly responsible for the loss of Rivers and Zamfara”.

“He is so full of himself and that was why after the party’s loss in Edo, he made a video saying people thought he was down but he is not”.

He stated on his verified Twitter handle(@fkeyamo): “Still negotiating with labour at exactly 12.34am. Some progress have been made. Concrete proposals on the table from both sides.

“Details being worked on by the temporary Secretariat. Gradually moving towards a point of convergence. Let’s hope….”

Furthermore, a source told Vanguard that it is possible the tariff will be suspended for two weeks, but said nothing specific about fuel pump price.

The source also said a joint government/Labour committee will be set up to review the issues within those two weeks.

Vanguard also learned that a communique is being hammered out, an indication that some sort of agreement had been arrived at.

Recall that Vanguard reported that the issue of pump price hike had links with IMF, the World Bank and other international finance bodies Nigeria is indebted to.
