LESSONS FROM THE VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS (2)

BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 1:18-21

“Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1:19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Yesterday we looked at Mary and her willingness to submit to God, trusting Him to work out all that concerned her to His purpose. Today we will look at Joseph and the lessons we can learn from him. Here was Joseph, a respected member of the community, a well known entrepreneur who was about to marry the most beautiful girl in town. All of a sudden, he finds out that she is pregnant and she is telling him a wild story about angels and the Holy Spirit and the messiah. Joseph was well within his rights to denounce her publicly and have her stoned for adultery. Even though they were not officially married yet, in the Jewish culture they were betrothed and as good as married. But the bible says that because he was a Godly man, he wanted to put her away quietly and not shout her disgrace from the top of the mountain.

Today however, Christians are the first to share, retweet and spread the news when a fellow believer is overtaken in a fault. Christians are the ones who will spread the gossip, attack the person concerned, reject and condemn them and throw them out of the fellowship. Joseph was Godly, even though he had the right to condemn Mary, he didn’t. If you condemn, attack and become a scourge against your brother or sister who falls, you are not Godly. Paul talking about it said “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The right response to those who have made mistakes is not to testify about it to the nations, but to seek to restore them in the spirit of gentleness and love, knowing that we also have our weaknesses and tomorrow it just might be us instead of them. Restore them in love knowing that our Heavenly Father is concerned with their restoration and not in condemning them.

If you made a mistake and were knocked down in sin, would you prefer that your brethren dealt with you in love, compassion, understanding and with the intent to help you stand again or would you prefer they treated you with scorn, judgement and spread the news of your weakness to the whole world? Go and do same.

PRAYER:
Lord I ask for forgiveness for not restoring my brethren when they fell. I commit to never publish their fault but to pray and restore them in the faith; so help me God.

LESSONS FROM THE VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS

BIBLE READING: LUKE 1:26-38

“Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.” Luke‬ ‭1:38‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Consider Mary on that very first Christmas, she was a single girl, about to be married and she had her future ahead of her. All of sudden an angel appears and tells her she is about to be pregnant and give birth to the messiah.

What was running through her mind at that time? If she was to be married to Joseph, what was his reaction going to be when he discovered that his wife to be was pregnant? Did she consider that the best that could happen was that Joseph would call off the marriage and that he could denounce her? What were her parents going to say, and what about her reputation in the town? She was going to be seen as an adulteress. Did she stop to consider the consequences of a pregnancy outside wedlock? She lived in a society where adultery was punished by stoning to death, yet here was this angel telling her she was about to be sentenced to death. What was she thinking?

Mary’s response was that of submitting and yielding to God’s will and purpose, trusting that God who had the plan would see her through and work it out completely, and He did. When God gives you a word, irrespective of what you think, you must learn to trust Him and yield to His plans and purposes. Mary yielded to God and became the mother of the saviour of the world. All the fears and worries of what could go wrong were taken care of by God. In the same way, if God has spoken, trust Him and hold unto His word in faith and all the things you were afraid of will fall into place and God’s ultimate purpose will be done in your life.

PRAYER:
Father I apologise and repent from doubting your word. I receive Grace to believe you at all times in Jesus name, amen.

SEREDEC And SEGF in Partnership With DFID PERL, Convenes the 4th South East Economic Summit

The South East Governors Forum and South East Region Economic Development Company will host the 4th annual South East Economic Summit on the 19th and 20th of December, 2019. The event which will hold at The Base Landmark event centre, Independence Layout, Enugu will focus on Financing Economic Development, Improving the Ease of Doing Business and financing overarching infrastructure projects in the South East.

The South East Economic Summit is an annual event which began in 2016 by the South East Region Economic Development Company (SEREDEC) and South East Governors Forum (SEGF) with support from DFID’s Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL-ARC). The major objective of the Summit is to create an enabling environment for dialogue and development of a practicable working plan to push the region forward.

The first and second summits which held in 2016 and 2017 respectively were targeted at identifying key overarching projects to deploy in the South East to aid rapid economic development. The SEES 2018 was about the implementation of these projects; to examine the progress till date and establish a clear-cut timeline for completion.

The theme of this year’s summit is “Financing South East Economic Development & Improving the Ease of Doing Business in the South East” and President of Afreximbank, Professor Benedict Oramah, will deliver the keynote address.

According to Prof. Barth Nnaji, SEREDEC Chairman, “SEES 4 is designed to be a practical conference and not a talk shop”. The two – day summit will have development experts, business moguls, the Academia, ICT professionals, Ease of Doing Business practitioners and other leaders.

These assemblages of resources will do justice to various issues in the areas of financing projects in the South East, provide project updates on the Resort Hospital Project, Enyimba Economic City, the Rail Network, Gas Pipeline.

They will also discuss ideas on how to improve Ease of Doing Business in the South East as well as new business ideas, innovations & Job Creation in the South East. We also hope deliberations at the summit will help to enhance our strategies for infrastructure, development and financing, ICT, human capital development and youth Empowerment.

Invitees to this year’s summit include representatives from South East State Governors, State Government ministries, departments and agencies, national and state legislatures, SECCIMA, entrepreneurs, technocrats, civil society organizations, faith and community-based organizations and youth leaders.

Signed: Prof. Onyi Nwagbara (Secretary, SEREDEC)
On behalf of SEGF and SEREDEC
