JOY TO THE WORLD
BIBLE READING: LUKE 2:8-18
"Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 NKJV
When you think of the word “joy,” what comes to mind?To the Israelites joy at the coming of the messiah would have been because; the messiah who was going to deliver them from Roman oppression had come. The prophesied messiah has come but they didn’t recognise Him. “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.” John 1:10-11 NKJV They expected a war messiah but instead they got a man of peace, who preached and taught love. They expected that the joy at His coming would destroy the Romans but the His coming brought the joy of salvation.
Because of Christ’s birth, joy is not only expected, it is also a praise-filled assurance that abides in you—reminding you that God keeps His promises and is working everything out for your good and His glory. Joy helps you fix your eyes on Jesus and point others to Jesus because joy fulfilled is Jesus.
As you continue to celebrate the coming of Christ, take a moment to thank God for the joy that entered the world the moment Jesus gave up heaven to become Immanuel, “God with us.” Joy is now the fruit of the receated human spirit and nothing should ever take away your joy. Guard your heart diligently at all costs to preserve the joy of the Lord which has been infused in your heart.
PRAYER:
Thank you Father for the joy of the Lord which is now my strength. Give me the grace to rejoice in you always despite any contrary experience that may come my way in Jesus' Name, amen.

GOD KEEPS HIS PROMISES
BIBLE READING: DEUT. 7:8-9
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:22-23
It is really reassuring that God means what He says and says what He means. Whenever He makes a promise, it is based on His integrity and His ability to make it good. No word from God is void of power, if He has said it, it will surely come to pass.
Long before the birth of Jesus Christ, several prophets had prophesied of His coming. God saw the deplorable state of man and promised a solution in the person of our Lord Jesus, the anointed One. Jesus came as a fulfilment of God's promise to mankind first in Genesis 3 though it tarried for thousands of years.
Through-out history, from the Bible days to the present, God has remained faithful and reliable, His word has always prospered in the thing for which He sent it. The reason you experience certain delays can be traced back to seasons of unbelief. Whenever you are tempted to doubt God and His word, go back memory lane and remember past testimonies, read the scriptures and see how God always brought His promises to reality, let that strengthen you.
Don't limit Him with your thinking or with circumstances, He is able to do exceeding abundantly. The Bible records that He watches over His word to perform it. If He gave His only begotten, there is nothing else He can't give.
PRAYER:
Dear heavenly Father, I thank you because You are faithful and You always keep Your promises. Thank you for the gift of Jesus Christ and the work on the cross. Help me to keep my focus on you, knowing that you will do what you say you will do. Amen.

THE ULTIMATE GIFT
BIBLE READING: LUKE 2:1-20
But while he thought on these things, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sin. Matthew 1:20-21 KJV
In the movie “The Ultimate Gift,” a young man was given a series of gifts by his grandfather; gifts that taught him valuable life lessons, and prepared him for the ultimate gift of his entire inheritance.
This young man had to pass a series of tests to prove that he was worthy of the responsibility of the inheritance. He had to grow into his inheritance. While that young man had to pass a series of tests to qualify for that ultimate gift, we on the other hand do not need to pass any tests or jump through any hoops to qualify for the gift of God.
The fall of man in the garden brought death to all mankind, but the birth of Jesus, meant that a rescue mission was underway. And when He died at Calvary, and rose on the third day, He gave us the Ultimate gift of life. No longer are we under the power of sin and the devil, death has lost its sting and we are free because He was born, He died, He arose and now we can receive His life inside of us and live forever. Halleluyah!
We must be reminded that the major purpose of His coming is our redemption from sin. Jesus is not our errand boy like a lot of Christians would want to make him. He is God’s gift to us. He didn’t come to give us things. He came to give us HIMSELF! He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Ron 8:32. Every other need of man comes after Christ.
In this season of Christmas, as you remember the first coming of Christ, are you living a life of victory over sin? Have you accepted God’s ulmitate gift which is eternal life through and in Christ Jesus? “He is the way to that life. He is the truth that holds the life. He is the life Himself”
PRAYER:
If you are not born again: Lord I thank you for the gift of your son, born to save me from my sins, I thank you for the ultimate gift of life that He has given, and now I repent of my sins, I confess that they are vile, and I confess Jesus as my Lord and saviour. Come into my heart and be my master. Thank you Lord for saving me, in Jesus’ name, amen.

LESSONS FROM THE VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS (4)
BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 2:1-12
“And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11 NKJV
Yesterday we looked at Joseph and studied his sensitivity to hear from God, as well as his obedience which led to the fulfillment of God’s plan and purpose. Today we will look at two more benefits of obedience to God’s word.
Our Bible Reading today tells us of the wise men who came from the east, bearing gifts; gold, frankincense and myrrh. These are very precious items even by today’s standards. The currency of every country in the world today is still benchmarked by gold. Frankincense and Myrrh are very rare and precious spices.
When Herod came for the baby, Joseph took his young family to Egypt for safety as instructed by God and in that strange land, the gifts the wise men brought, became the provision that kept them throughout their stay in Egypt. This means, your provision is in your obedience. Every time God speaks and gives an instruction, it might not make logical sense, but when we obey, we find that all the things we have been believing God for and praying about, will be found in the place of obedience. If you want to enjoy the best God has for you, become an obedience based disciple.
Secondly, we see that the obedience of Joseph protected him and his family from the attack of Herod. “Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.” Matthew 2:16 NKJV
Our protection is also in our obedience. The devil only has access to us when we live in disobedience and leave a door open for him to come in. When this happens, he takes advantage of it and brings us harm. But in the place of obedience, we have safety and protection. “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10 NKJV
The name of the Lord is a strong tower but it is the righteous who run into it who is saved. Obedience brings protection from the power of the enemy. To live in dominion you must train your spirit man to hear God’s voice clearly and also to obey promptly.
PRAYER:
Father, I thank you for making provisions for me before the need arises. I receive grace to be an obedience based disciple of Jesus

LESSONS FROM THE VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS (3)
BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 1:18-25
“But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:20 NKJV
Yesterday, we studied the Godliness of Joseph that made him want to protect Mary instead of hold her up to public shame, wanted to settle things quietly. Today, we shall take another look at Joseph. While Joseph was still contemplating on what to do after finding out that Mary was pregnant, an Angel showed up and gave him directions from God, about Mary, the baby and God’s plan and purpose for the the baby.
Later on, the same Angel shows up again and warns him to take the baby and flee to Egypt to save His life. “Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.” Matthew 2:13 NKJV. Joseph had to take his young family and flee to Egypt and after the death of Herod, Joseph got the divine direction to return to Israel.
All these were possible because Joseph had learned to hear and recognise when God was speaking to him and he had also developed a habit of obeying divine instructions when they came. If Joseph hadn’t learned to be sensitive and obedient, he might not have heard the angel telling him to marry Mary and Jesus would not have had his protection and guidance as He grew from childhood to adulthood. If he had not heard the Angel the second time and been obedient as well, then he would not have taken his young family and fled to Egypt to protect them from the wrath of Herod.
Most of the defeats we suffer as Christians come as a result of the fact that our spirits are so weak and deaf that when God speaks and gives instructions we do not hear Him. God speaks, but have you trained your spirit to hear and recognize His voice when He speaks to you?
On the other hand, there are times we hear God clearly but fail to walk in obedience and the devil takes advantage of our disobedience to make us walk in defeat instead of victory. If the devil ever defeats you in any area of your life, it is because you either haven’t heard what God says about that area of your life, or you have heard God but you have been disobedient.
Develop your spirit man, learn to hear what God is saying to you especially through the scriptures and then resolve to live an obedience based life. Your life will go from victory to victory.
PRAYER:
Lord I receive sensitivity to your leading. I pledge to seek your voice in the midst of the cacophony of voices speaking today and to promptly obey your instructions at any cost in Jesus' Name, amen.
