THANKSGIVING FOR UNSEEN VICTORIES
BIBLE READING: 2 KINGS 18:13-19:37
“But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the LORD has given you the city... So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.” Joshua 6:15-16, 20(NKJV)
There is no limit to how much thanks we should render to God. There is nothing like being too thankful and like I always say, nothing ever finishes in the hand of a thankful person. Today, we will be looking at yet another reason why we should be thankful.
Our Bible reading today speaks of Sennacherib who was the king of Assyria and came against king Hezekiah and the land of Judah. Sennacherib had defeated countless countries and taken them off to slavery. As a matter of fact, he had already conquered Israel and scattered them all about his empire. So now it was Judah’s turn and it was going to be business as usual. None of the gods of the nations had saved them from his power, so he had no reason to think it would be different this time. Unfortunately for him however, there was an angel who kept watch over the nation of Israel. And after he ridiculed God, the angel moved against him and slaughtered his entire army of 185,000 people. Not only that, his own sons moved against him and killed him immediately he got back home. Judah was saved and they didn’t even see the battle take place. They went to bed one night surrounded by enemies and woke up the next morning to victory.
In the same way, there were battles that were fought on our behalf throughout the year that we had no idea of. Angels have been on assignment watching over us, protecting us, causing favor to come to us and doing so many things for us that we have been totally unaware of. The Israelites marched around Jericho once every day and seven times on the seventh day. Then they screamed and the walls came crashing down. That was what they saw but the part they didn’t see was the host of angels standing on the walls and pushing them into the ground. This is recorded in the Holy Bible in Joshua 6:1-27 and corroborated in the book titled “Angels on Assignment” as narrated by Pastor Roland Buck.
What hidden battles have been fought and won over you this year? What are the dangers the Angels have protected you from this year that you were totally unaware of? Take time out to thank God and praise Him for those hidden battles that He saved you and your family from this year.
PRAYER:
Lord I thank you for giving your angels charge over me and for all the unseen battles you fought for me and my family. The one you saved, I have come to worship and say thank you.

I STILL SAY THANK YOU
BIBLE READING: HABAKUK 3:17-19
It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23(KJV).
We are still on the subject of thanksgiving to God as the year gradually winds up. you might be tempted to say you have nothing to be thankful to God for and that He has done absolutely nothing for you this year. As a matter of fact, you might even have a list of your woes and the defeats you have suffered this year. But do not be deceived, that is a lie from the devil.
Did you lose property, God kept your life; did you lose a job, you still have the capacity to get another or even start a business; did you lose a loved one, if they were born again, they are in a better place. We must look back at the year, through the lens of gratitude and remember all that God has done for us throughout the year. Remember the times He provided even when it looked like we were at the end of our rope. Remember His protection at those times the devil brought sickness our way, at those times our enemies fought against us and those times He rescued us from those accidents that would have ended our lives. In this season, let us look back into the year, and be thankful for His faithfulness.
If we will be sincere to ourselves, there have been times in the year when we broke faith with Him, but irrespective of that, He still kept us safe, provided for us and didn’t let the devil destroy us or our loved ones. Even in instances where we lost something or someone in the course of the year, we can still be thankful that we were not destroyed because it is by His mercies that we are not consumed.
The lyrics of the classical hymn by Johnson Oatman Jr. is apt in this regard- 'Count your blessings, name them one by one, count your blessings, see what God hath done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done. One if the major reasons people don’t give thanks is forgetfulness . The cure to this is deliberately recalling the goodness of God in different areas of your life.
Let deep gratitude flow from your heart for the hope that lies ahead of you. The dead is without any flicker of
hope but as long as you are alive, there is hope for a brighter and better future. According to Habbakuk 3, thanksgiving can turn situations around.
PRAYER:
Thank you Lord for your faithfulness throughout the year; thank you for keeping me and bringing me to the end of another year, thank you also for I know you will bring me into the New Year. Amen.
