The Trump campaign has filed a lawsuit to halt ballot counting in Michigan. The campaign has also said it will request an ‘immediate’ recount in Wisconsin.

President Donald Trump’s campaign has filed a lawsuit in Michigan seeking to stop ballot counting until representatives are allowed to witness the operation.

Bill Stepien, who is the Trump 2020 campaign manager, released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying a lawsuit has been filed in the Michigan Court of Claims alleging violations of Michigan election laws. He said campaign representatives has not been provided with “meaningful access” to ballot counting locations, as required by law.

The campaign is asking the court to halt ballot counting until it receives “meaningful access" to watch ballot counting operations and to provide the opportunity to review ballots that were counted while campaign representatives didn’t have the access they wanted.

"President Trump is committed to ensuring that all legal votes are counted in Michigan and everywhere else,” Stepien said in the statement.

Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Laura Cox issued a separate statement on Wednesday afternoon claiming that irregularities were found in Antrim County. She said a software issue there caused a swing of 6,000 votes for Trump and Republican Senate candidate John James in unofficial totals.

Cox said Michigan Republicans also were investigating whether thousands of ballots were dropped off in Detroit after 3 a.m. Wednesday, which was about seven hours after the deadline at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

“The irregularities reported this morning are incredibly troubling, especially given how close the election results are in Michigan," Cox said. “At this point, it is unclear whether or not these issues were caused by incompetence or corruption, but the fact that they exist is of great concern, and the Michigan Republican Party will spare no expense to expose the truth of what happened in yesterday’s election.”

Here is the full statement issued by the Trump-Pence campaign:

“As votes in Michigan continue to be counted, the presidential race in the state remains extremely tight as we always knew it would be. President Trump’s campaign has not been provided with meaningful access to numerous counting locations to observe the opening of ballots and the counting process, as guaranteed by Michigan law. We have filed suit today in the Michigan Court of Claims to halt counting until meaningful access has been granted. We also demand to review those ballots which were opened and counted while we did not have meaningful access. President Trump is committed to ensuring that all legal votes are counted in Michigan and everywhere else.”

A man has written a letter to his church, demanding a refund of all the offerings he contributed to the church for the 19 years he attended the church, IgbereTV reports.

Dishon Kinyanjui Kinuthia, a Kenyan Christian, took to Twitter to share the letter he wrote to his church while warning that there will be consequences if he doesn't get a refund.

Dishon, who used to attend Revival Mission Church, Kabete, in Nairobi, said he was a member from 1997 to 2018 when he left the church.

He asked that the church refunds the sum of 58,000 KES which is his estimate of his contribution to the church over two decades.

He said the contributions he made to the church were not "voluntary" but was done under "undue influence, duress, and intimidation."

He asked the church to deposit the money in his account on or before November 31, 2020, or he will start legal proceedings.

SISIONKE_MD shared the letter on Twitter with the caption:

Three Nigerian-Americans win in U.S 2020 elections

Three Nigerian-Americans, Esther Agbaje, Oye Owolewa and Nnamdi Chukwuocha, have won their electoral bids in the United States election held on Tuesday.

Ms Agbaje, who contested to represent District 59B in the Minnesota House of Representatives on the platform of the Democratic Party, won with 17,396 votes.

The 35-year-old Harvard law graduate defeated Republican Alan Shilepsky and Green Party candidate Lisa Neal-Delgado to represent downtown and north Minneapolis in the state House.

She is one of the nine Nigerian-Americans on the ballot in Tuesday’s election.

Born to Nigerian parents – an Episcopal priest and a librarian – Ms Agbaje became the first Nigerian-American to be elected to the Minnesota legislature.

With a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, she had a stint in the U.S. State Department, experience working with city government, and accolades at a prestigious law firm, her profile read.

In August, Ms Agbaje was one of four newcomers who defeated established Democratic legislators in the primary – two in the state House and two in the Senate.

She is interested in prison reform, fighting racial discrepancies, housing among others.

She took to Twitter to announce her victory on Wednesday.

“I’m honored to have earned the support and trust of my neighbors to serve as their representative for #mn #hd59b. From North #mpls to North Loop, Elliot Park to Bryn Mawr, I will work hard everyday to represent this entire district with empathy, compassion and pride.#ThankYou”.

Another Nigerian Democrat, Oye Owolewa, was elected as a shadow member of the House of Representatives from the District of Columbia.

He polled 164,026 votes to defeat incumbent Joyce Robinson-Paul, who scored 18,600 votes, and Sohaer Syed with 15,372 votes.

Mr Owolewa, who has roots in Kwara and Oyo states, holds a PhD in Pharmacy from the Northeastern University, Boston.

In 2018, he was elected commissioner of his neighbourhood in SouthEast DC.

As an advocate for DC statehood, he launched TaxFreeDC as a movement to combat DC’s taxation without representation.

According to his website, TaxFreeDC declares that until DC statehood is achieved, DC’s tax revenue shall no longer go to the federal government.

“Oye believes our money belongs here for DC priorities instead of going to a government that fails to recognise us,” it said.

He became the first Nigerian-American to occupy the seat.

As the results trickled on Wednesday morning, Mr Owolewa shared the news of his victory on his social media.

“Good morning. Looks like we did it! I want to thank everyone, from family and close friends to DC residents.

“Because of your contributions and sacrifices, I stand before you as America’s first Nigerian-American congressman.

“In this role, I’m going to fight for DC statehood and bring our values to the lawmaking process. While today is the day for some celebration, the hard work also follows.

“Again, thanks so much for everything. I wouldn’t be here without yall,” he said.

Lastly, Nnamdi Chukwuocha won re-election as a member of Delaware House of Representatives from District 1.

As a Democrat without an opponent, he won 100 per cent of the votes with 7,640.

Mr Chukwuocha was elected to represent District 1 in the Delaware House of Representatives in 2018.

With a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in social work from Delaware State University, he has several years of experience in local politics in the state.

He once served on the Wilmington City Council as President Pro Tempore and Chair of the Education, Youth and Families Committee.

In 2019, he was a member of the Corrections Committee, the Education Committee, the Health & Human Development Committee, the Veterans Affairs Committee as a US Army veteran and Vice-Chair of the Transportation/Land Use and Infrastructure Committee

He is part of the spoken word duo “Twin Poets” which was appointed as the State of Delaware 17th Poets Laureate.

Top Nigerian Bank Sued for Blocking Protest-Linked Accounts

Access Bank Plc, Nigeria’s biggest lender, is accused of illegally blocking an account used to promote media coverage of protests against police brutality that recently swept Africa’s most populous country.

Gatefield Nigeria Ltd., a public affairs company, filed a case against Access Bank in a federal court in Abuja, the capital, on Oct. 28, accusing the lender of “unilaterally restricting” its account and demanding damages of 100 million naira ($262,00, according to court documents. The account was used to raise funds to support independent Nigerian journalists that covered nationwide demonstrations that lasted almost three weeks, according to the firm.

“As more people contributed to our efforts, we noticed that we could no longer conduct transactions on the dedicated account we used for this particular activity,” Adewunmi Emoruwa, the lead strategist for Abuja-based Gatefield, said Tuesday by phone.

The lawsuit will test whether blocking Gatefield’s account without a court order was unlawful. There were other allegations by individuals and organizations on social media that their accounts were restricted during the protests for apparently similar reasons.

“A successful challenge at the court could make the difference for others who were likewise targeted,” Emoruwa said.

Gatefield was told by Access Bank that it was directed by the Central Bank of Nigeria to put restrictions on the account, implemented on Oct. 15, Emoruwa said. A spokesman for Access Bank said the lender doesn’t comment on its customers to third parties. A spokesman for the central bank didn’t respond to emails and calls seeking comment.

Human Rights Watch, the New York-headquartered rights group has “documented several cases of organizations and individuals whose bank accounts were frozen after receiving or disbursing funds to support the #endsars protests,” its Nigeria researcher, Anietie Ewang, said by email.

$1.2b Brazil Loan: PDP Taunts Buhari Over Reckless Borrowing...Urges President Not to Reduce Nigeria to a Beggar Nation

The @OfficialPDPNig is alarmed by fresh plans by President @MBuhari to further mortgage our nation through an additional $1.2 billion loan from Brazil despite the public outcry against the accumulation of loans from China and other foreign interests.

The PDP cautions the @MBuhari Presidency not to further weaken our nation and using nebulous agricultural programmes as justification for further accumulation of foreign loans, without clear terms and conditions, to the detriment of the poor masses and generations yet unborn.

The party further warns that the loan request, if approved by the @nassnigeria, will exacerbate our nation’s debt burden, mortgage our agricultural sector, weaken our investment capacity and worsen our food security challenge.

Our party invites Nigerians to note that with the $1.2 billion (N459 billion) Brazilian loan, in addition to the N5.20 trillion borrowing already proposed in the 2021 budget, our nation’s debt burden will hit a disastrous N36.2 trillion which will plunge our economy into a devastating pitfall.

The @OfficialPDPNig therefore urges the @nassnigeria to save the nation by being circumspect in handling the loan request in the national interest.

Instead of this recourse to reckless borrowings, the @OfficialPDPNig urges the @MBuhari Presidency to apply itself productively by looking inwards and finding ways to harness and create wealth with the resources abounding in our country.

What Nigeria needs now is for government to be more innovative and resourceful in galvanizing a productive economy instead of reducing our nation to a beggar status among the comity of nations.
