Dettol Cool Announces Ighalo As Brand Ambassador.

The Red Devils’ forward has been named as the leading hygiene brand’s ambassador

Manchester United forward Odion Ighalo has been named as ambassador of Nigeria’s leading hygiene brand Dettol.

The striker arrived from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua on a temporary loan deal on the final day of the January transfer window, to provide Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with cover for the injured Marcus Rashford who was sidelined with a back issue.

Announcing the pact via his social media handle, the 31-year-old said that as a sportsman, he shares similar values with the Dettol Cool brand – which includes staying protected from germs as well as staying fit and healthy.

“As a professional footballer, staying healthy and germ-free is a critical part of my life,” the former Watford man said.

“I’m very excited about the new Dettol offering because nothing feels more refreshing after a game, than the minty freshness that comes after a bath with the new Dettol Cool Soap.”

The new Dettol Cool soap combines the trusted Dettol protection against 99.9% odor causing germs, with an extra burst of menthol freshness to protect and refresh Nigerians as they go through their daily activities.

General Manager of RB Nigeria Dayanand Sriram is pleased about the partnership which he described as a ‘winning combination’.

“Odion Ighalo is a great success on and off the field. He is a role model and inspiration to all Nigerians,” he said.

“We are very excited about the Dettol Cool partnership with him and we are confident that this would be a winning combination.”

After playing 35 matches and scoring 16 goals, which ranks him as the seventh all-time highest goalscorer in the Super Eagles history, the striker took the decision to bow out for younger ones to ‘learn and grow’.

He was awarded the top scorer’s prize at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after scoring five goals in seven appearances for Gernot Rohr’s team.

Ighalo commenced his career as a youth player in the U20 team and later made his senior debut during an international friendly match against Uganda in March 2015.

October 12 resumption date: Lecturers can’t work on empty stomach, strike indefinite – ASUU

FG withholds our salaries while negotiations are ongoing, says union

Every lecturer has been paid, all ASUU members now on IPPIS – Federal Govt

There were strong indications on Monday that students of public universities in the country would stay at home further as the Academic Staff Union of Universities dismissed the Federal Government’s directive that all educational institutions in the country should resume on Monday next week.

The National President of ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, in a telephone interview with The PUNCH, said the Federal Government was not sincere about negotiations with the union, adding that lecturers would not resume on an empty stomach.

Ogunyemi specifically took a swipe at the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris, for violating a directive of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), that lecturers’ salaries should be paid.

He hinted that Nigerians should be ready for a long-drawn strike in universities with the way government was handing negotiations.

Also, the Non-Academic Staff Union on Monday said the Federal Government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System was not transparent, saying many of its members were being cheated.

Both NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities began a 14-day warning strike on Monday over the adoption of the IPPIS in universities and non-payment of minimum wage to their members.

The Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, had, at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, said government had approved the reopening of educational institutions beginning from Monday, October 12.

Recall that all educational institutions in the country were shut in March following the outbreak of COVID-19.

But before March, the Federal Government and ASUU had been at loggerheads over the IPPIS, which the later said should not be adopted in universities because it would violate their autonomy.

Osun graduate killed on his way to poultry farm
Buhari, during the presentation of the 2020 budget in October last year, ordered ministries, departments and agencies to migrate to the IPPIS as part of efforts to check fraud.

On March 23, ASUU began an indefinite strike to force the Federal Government to implement its agreements with lecturers and protest against the IPPIS .

Responding to a question on when the strike would end, Ogunyemi stated, “You can’t expect people to go back to their offices on an empty stomach. You don’t expect my members to suspend this action when their demands have not been met. It is a very clear decision that anybody will make in this circumstance.”

He said that on August 18, ASUU wrote the Federal Government, stating that it was ready to demonstrate its University Transparency Accountability Solution, which it designed as alternative to the IPPIS.

According to him, the union did not receive government’s reply until September 30.

Explaining contents of the letters, he stated, “They said they were considering our requests for a meeting. Mainly, we raised two points in the letter we wrote to them, that we are ready to demonstrate our platform which is the alternative to the IPPIS. We had earlier presented it to the Ministry of Education, although we told the Ministry of Labour that they should facilitate presentation to other stakeholders, particularly the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation. It is from there we are being dribbled.”

Withholding our salaries not good for negotiations – Union

Berating the AGF, ASUU president stated, “The AGF has withheld salaries of our members. The salaries withheld range from three months to eight months and I don’t think that is good negotiations. If you think you can use hunger as a weapon of war against Nigerian academics, it means the government is not sincere about building an enviable university system in Nigeria.

“All these games of arm- twisting, intimidation and manipulation will not take them far and that is why we want Nigerians to prevail on the AGF to stop this attack on our members. He is using hunger as a weapon of war and he should get ready to be tried for genocide.

Govt wants to frustrate our payment platform – Lecturers

“We have reasons to believe they are trying to frustrate the new platform we have developed and we are not going to take that kindly because we used the contributions of our members to develop that platform. We didn’t take a kobo from government because we thought we should demonstrate patriotism.”

He recalled that at a meeting between the union and the government held on March 17, issues such as visitation panel to universities, earned academic allowances and revitalisation of the institutions were discussed.

“I want to assure Nigerians that while the AGF may claim that he is achieving his objectives by humiliating some lecturers, we have a vast majority of our lecturers who are resolute and they are ready and steady in the ongoing struggle and at the appropriate time the showdown will come and Nigerians will see the truth about what is behind the IPPIS,” Ogunyemi stated.

Efforts to get reactions of the Director of Information in the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Henshaw Ogubike, did not succeed as he had not responded to questions sent to his phone as of the time of sending this report. He had earlier requested that the questions should be sent to his phone.

Every lecturer has been paid, all ASUU members now on IPPIS – FG

But the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, in an interview with The PUNCH, said all lecturers had migrated to the IPPIS.

He said, “I think every ASUU member has been paid. They received their last salary in July, which was the period transfers were made last. What they haven’t received are their August and September salaries.”

On the allegations against the AGF, he said funds for salaries were not being given to universities, but paid into individuals’ accounts.

He stated, “You remember that the President gave a directive that they should be paid, so they submitted their details which were then used to migrate them to the IPPIS. So while they were still protesting that they didn’t want to be on the IPPIS, the IPPIS platform accommodated and paid them.

“ Even when they were on strike, we kept paying them. We paid in March, April, May, June and July. They are now on the IPPIS because during the period of the lockdown, there was no other way to pay them. When they gave us their bank verification numbers, we migrated them to the IPPIS and we are now paying them on the IPPIS.”

NASU says IPPIS not transparent, FG condemns strike

Meanwhile, the Federal Government on Monday condemned the 14-day strike embarked upon by SSANU and NASU.

The Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, in an interview with The PUNCH, said, “The strike action is unfortunate, unnecessary and uncalled for.”

However, the General Secretary of NASU, Peter Adeyemi, in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, asked, “How can someone in the Federal Ministry of Education be saying our strike is uncalled for? “

He said although the union initially supported the IPPIS, it later discovered that government was not keeping its promise.

Some of our members are not paid, some shortchanged – NASU

Adeyemi stated, “Government started implementing the IPPIS and started shortchanging our members. If we did not agree to key into the platform, they would call us irresponsible. But we have discovered that they are not transparent. The problem started in March. We will only call off the strike when they correct all the anomalies. Some of our members were shortchanged, while some were not paid at all. There are a whole lot them.”

Insecurity: Stop Lying To Nigerians, PDP Counsels Lai Mohammed.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has counseled Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to desist from telling Nigerians lie on the security situation in the country.

Incessant attack by Boko Haram terrorists has peaked inn recent times with Babagana Zulum, Borno state governor suffering attacs on three occasions while his security aides were killed.

However, the Minister recently said his position in 2015 that Boko Haram had been technically defeated was based on what he saw on the ground when he led a team of local and international journalists to the epicentre of insurgency.

“I stand by what I said that Boko Haram is technically defeated. What we are having today is global terrorism where you have the ISIS, ISWAP Al-qaeda all working together,”.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Kola Ologbondiyan, national publicity secretary of the PDP said the Minister has been economical with the truth on the issue of insecurity in the country.

“Alhaji Lai Mohammed is the Minister of Information. So, he will want to say what Mr. President and the public will want to hear such as Boko Haram has been technically defeated. But Nigerians know the reality that the government of President Buhari has failed on its promise to secure our nation. That is the truth and how they want to receive it is a different thing entirely”.

“That is why many Nigerians including members of the National Assembly have appealed for a rejig of the security architecture of the country which they believe will go a long way in helping the security situation of the country. But the manifest failure of this government in the area of security is very clear for everyone to see”.

“Alhaji Lai Mohammed is only saying what the President wants to hear . He says anything to suit the government but Nigerians who know he is not saying the truth about the situation of things. That is why Nigerians are teling the President to take practical actions and take the issue of security more responsibly.’

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has reaffirmed his commitment to the ongoing reforms in the Nigeria Police Force especially as it concerns the activities of the Federal Anti-robbery Squad (FSARS) and other Special Tactical Units of the Force.

The IGP made this known during a courtesy call on him by the Hon Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare on Monday, 5th October 2020, at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.

The IGP called on citizens to exercise patience as the reforms in FSARS et.al are still in progress, noting that all the already announced measures aimed at checkmating a future occurrence of extra-judicial activities by some personnel of FSARS and other Tactical Units of the Force will be followed to the latter.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba said the IGP reiterated that some of the officers who have been found to be unruly and unprofessional in their dealings with the citizens, particularly the youth, have been arrested and are already facing disciplinary actions.

In his remarks, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare commended the IGP for his prompt response in tackling the issues and called for stronger collaboration and mutual understanding between the Police and the youth.

He also called for regular town hall meetings at various State Commands which will involve the Police Spokespersons, Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and other critical stakeholders to strengthen the synergy between the police and the citizens, especially the youth.

The IGP, while concurring with the Minister on the necessity for Town Hall meetings, a practice which he identified as a feature of community policing, reaffirmed the readiness of the Police, under his watch, to work with relevant stakeholders towards enhancing respect for the rights of the citizens and better bonding between the Police and the community at all times.

FSARS Personnel To Be Issued Guns Only When Responding To Violent Crimes

In line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police on measures to curb the excesses of policemen attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (FSARS), and other tactical units, the Commissioner of Police, Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS, Imohimi Edgal, embarked on measures towards implementing the police boss’s directives.

According to him, henceforth, no personnel of the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), would be issued firearms except for guard duties, at the base, and to respond to violent crimes as they occur.

He stated that all FSARS teams on routine patrol have been withdrawn in compliance with the IGP’s directive.

According to him, in order to improve on the efficiency and effectiveness of FSARS and ensure they uphold the fundamental human rights of the citizens, the unit has drawn up a training/capacity workshop which will kick off this week in Abuja in collaboration with civilian partners and Non-Governmental Organisations, (NGO’s) aimed at emphasising the tenets of rule of law and fundamental rights of Nigerians.

He further said no FSARS personnel will henceforth attend to any violent crimes except he was kitted in his approved jacket to guide members of the public.

In his word, only FSARS operatives have the right to wear a jacket with the inscription ‘FSARS’, saying all other states Special Anti Robbery Squads, (SAR), which are commanded by state commissioners of police are to wear the inscription SARS without F.”

Edgal, therefore, called on state Commissioners and Commanders of tactical units to join hands to ensure the total success of all the directives and reforms regarding FSARS and SARS operations by the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu.

He reassured the public that the era of ‘slap on the wrist or cover-ups’ of any policeman caught involving himself in any matter that will tarnish the image of the force was over, Security and Safety matters reported.

“Henceforth, maximum disciplinary penalty awaits such policemen, he stated.

*ABRAHAM: FATHER OF FAITH*

*BIBLE READING: GENESIS 15:6; ISAIAH 51:1-2*

*"Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham ." Galatians 3:7(NKJV)*

As we have emphasized in previous devotionals, the faith-driven life is the normal Christian life. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that our Lord Jesus Christ is "the Author and Finisher of our Faith." (Hebrews 12:2a). In other words, the Lord is our Ultimate Model of Faith. However, when God Almighty decided to choose a nation upon the Earth to reveal His Glory to the rest of the nations, He chose one man named Abraham.

One of the first things keen observers notice about Abraham is his original birth name, as one of the three sons of Terah, he was named Abram (literally meaning "Exalted Father)." Considering the fact that Isaac the son of Promise was born after a twenty-five year delay, one can imagine the mockery he had to endure anytime someone would mention his name. According to Genesis chapter 17, when the Lord established the Covenant of Circumcision with him, he was ninety-nine years old when his name was changed to Abraham (literally meaning "Father of Multitudes". Even in times of uncertainty when Sarah had gone far beyond menopause, he remained steadfast as the Scriptures tell us clearly: *"He did not waver at the Promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving Glory to God, And being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore "it was accounted to him for righteousness."(Romans 4:20-22)*

Infact, when God Almighty, Whom Abraham knew to be the Embodiment of Integrity, instructed him to sacrifice Isaac his heir as a burnt offering upon the mountains of Moriah, the unshakeable faith of Abraham is recorded for all to see. When Isaac asked him where the lamb of sacrifice was, Abraham replied him with one of the greatest faith-filled sentences ever known to man: *"And Abraham said, "My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering." (Genesis 22:8)* Such faith! Such absolute confidence! As Abraham lifted the knife to slay Isaac, he remained totally convinced that even if he actually killed his son, God was more than able to resurrect him in order to fulfill His Promise to Abraham as the Father of many nations (Hebrews 11:19).

The good news is that we as Christians are connected to the blessings of Abraham through our union with Christ. After successfully passing the Isaac Test, God Almighty swore by Himself that He would multiply his descendants "as the stars of the Heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore."(Genesis 22:17)
The sand on the seashore refers to the Nation of Israel, Abraham's earthly seed while the stars of the Heaven refer to the New Testament Church, Abraham's heavenly seed. How glorious and fortunate it is for us to boldly declare that in Christ, we are "Abraham's seed and heirs according to the Promise." (Galatians 3:29)

*PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we adore You and bow down before You. Thank You for raising father Abraham as a standard of faith. As the prophetic seed of Abraham, we enter fully into all the blessings of the Covenant You cut with him. We appreciate You, Heavenly Father, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

*INSPIRATIONAL SONG

Abraham's blessings are mine,
Abraham's blessings are mine.
I am blessed in the morning,
I am blessed in the evening.
Abraham's blessings are mine.
