#endsars: Bashir Magashi Warns Protesters Against Undermining National Security

The Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Magashi (retd) has cautioned #endsars protesters against breaching national security.

General Magashi gave the caution when the National Coordinator Buhari Campaign Organisation, BCO, Danladi Pasali led the Executives drawn from its Headquarters, Zonal and State levels on courtesy visit to him at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.

He extoled the virtues of President Muhammadu Buhari whom he described as a forthright leader and thanked members of the Buhari Campaign Organisation for promoting his political ideology, democratic governance, Rule of Law and philosophy.

The Minister of Defence who told the group of his pioneering membership of the Buhari Organisation which dates back to the years of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, told them to fortify their flanks and ranks against subversive peneration of mischief makers capable of causing distraction, disaffection and division among them.

He assured them of the support of the Ministry of Defence in actualising their lofty programmes in raising the bar of national security.

He said they should leverage on their structure in the 774 local government areas and 36 states of the federation, as well as the Federal Capital Territory to gather intelligence and channel it to the appropriate authorities for action.

*Earlier, the National Coordinator of the Organisation, Danladi Pasali said the objective of the courtesy call was to congratulate the Minister on his one year in office and to thank him for emplacing what he called gigantic reforms in the Military.

Thanking General Magashi for his focused leadership in contributing to national peace and security, they offered to render service to the relevant authorities to burst crimes capable of threatening Peace and Security in the country.

He recalled the dogged and dedicated role played by the group in the electoral victories of President Buhari in the 2011 and 2019 Presidential election, adding that the organisation was spurred to establish National/ Community Support Security Initiative to key into the fight against Boko Haram terrorists in the North East, banditry in the North Central and kidnapping in the Niger Delta.

He therefore solicited the backing of the ministry for the initiative to succeed towards contributing their quota to the maintenance of peace, security and socio-economic development of the country.

EFCC Nabs Forex Trader For Failing To Fulfil 35% Monthly ROI

A foreign exchange (forex) trader based in Kano State, Mr Abubakar Ibrahim, has landed in a bowl of hot soup over his failure to keep to his words. Mr Ibrahim had promised to deliver a 30-35% monthly return on investment (ROI) to an investor, who eventually gave him N7.6 million for a try.

It was gathered that the money was given to the suspect through one of his agents, Mr Umar Kabir, and after the investment, the 30 to 35% ROI was never delivered as promised. This prompted the investor to approach the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to help him recover his hard-earned money.

According to the EFCC, which arraigned Mr Ibrahim before Justice Lewis Allagoa of the Federal High Court, sitting in Kano, on Friday, October 16, 2020, on a five-count charge of money laundering, the suspect allegedly engaged in forex trading through his Flexus Global Investment without duly registering with SCUML (acronym for Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, issued by the EFCC).

SCUML was established by the federal government in September 2005 as part of measures for implementation of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendations on Anti- Money Laundering/Combating the Financing. It is charged with responsibility of monitoring, supervising and regulating activities of Designated Non-Financial Institutions (DNFIs).

At the court, the EFCC informed the judge that efforts to make the suspect refund the sum invested to the complainant were futile and when the charges were read to him, he pleaded “not guilty.”

“That you, Abubakar Ibrahim (being the Managing Director of Flexus Global Investment Ltd) while acting in such capacity, sometimes in 2019 in Kano, Kano State within the jurisdiction of this court, did fail to declare the existence of your company with Special Control Unit Against Money Laundry (SCUML) before commencing business under the name Flexus Global Investment Limited and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 5(1) (a) (i) and punishable under Section 5(6) (a) & (b) of Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (As Amended),” one of the counts read.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Mr Michael Ojo, asked the court for a date to commence trial and that the accused person be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service. However, the defence counsel, H.A Hamza, urged the court to admit the defendant to bail. This bail application was granted by Justice Allagoa in the sum of N50 million with one surety in like sum.

The surety must be the owner of a landed property within Kano metropolis, which shall be verified by the registry of the court, the judge held and adjourned the case to November 19, 2020, for trial.

#endsars: FFK, Alfred Martins Warn FG Over Deployment Of Soldiers

Following the report by the Nigerian army that it would launch ‘exercise Crocodile smile’, an operation that would assist in identifying terrorists in the country, former Aviation and of course PDP chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode, Sunday warned the Federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to jettison the idea of deploying soldiers on the streets.

Disclosing this via his facebook handle, Femi said that the deployment of soldiers especially now that Nigerian youths are protesting against police brutality and extra judicial killings by the operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, would turn the #endsars movement into #endnigeria.

His words: “We will not wait before more blood is shed before we speak and before we send out this warning.

We will not wait until there is another mindless and needless massacre and massive shedding of innocent blood by our security forces before we shout out.
We say this today, we say it without fear or favour and we say it for everyone, both friend and foe, to hear loudly and clearly: the determination to use brute force and to kill innocent young men and women in an attempt to crush this protest comes with a very heavy price tag and butchers bill.

The plan to deploy soldiers in our streets and to slaughter #endsars protesters in the same way that the Shiite Muslims and IPOB youths were once slaughtered by the military and security forces will be Lt. General Tukur Burutai and President Muhammadu Buhari’s biggest mistake and gravest error.

This must NEVER happen and if it is true that they are seriously contemplating it then they should reconsider and think again!
If for ANY reason whatsoever, they go ahead, it will turn the #endsars movement into the #endnigeria movement and no force or power in hell or on earth will be able to resist or stop it.

We warn again: do not unleash the dogs of war and demons of hell on these protestors. Do not kill these INNOCENT, HARMLESS and DEFENCELESS young men and women who have courageously embarked on a LAWFUL and PEACEFUL protest and who are doing nothing more than exercising their constitutional right of freedom of speech and freedom of association.

The consequences of going ahead and doing so, amongst much else, will be that you will end up in the International Court of Criminal Justice and be prosecuted for crimes against humanity and genocide in the not too distant future.

*I say it again, do not bite off more than you can chew, do not beat the drums of armed conflict and do not let slip the dogs of war!

This matter can and must be handled with the utmost maturity and restraint by the Federal Government and in a peaceful, rational and reasonable manner.

These young men and women are fighting for their future: they cannot and will not be intimidated. The threat of mass murder or genocide or its actualisation will not stop them: rather it will embolden them and turn them into martyrs for democracy.

A word is enough for the wise!.”
Suffixing to his postulations, the Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Martins, Catholic also took out time to advise FG over the deployment of soldiers.

According to him: “Such a measure, if adopted, can only lead to injuries and possible deaths, and an escalation of the protests. It has the tendency of turning the largely peaceful protests into a violent one.

“We therefore urge the federal government to toe the line of engagement in dialogue, listening to the demands of the youth and other well-meaning Nigerians.

“We commend the government for acceding to the demands of the youth. Now, the whole country looks forward to practical steps that would be taken to implement them.

“We believe that a sincere and transparent response to the demands of the young people would go a long way in resolving the present impasse.

Army: "Crocodile Smile" Not Targeted At EndSARS Protesters

The Nigerian Army has clarified that “Operation Crocodile Smile” is not targeted at #endsars protesters.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Sagir Musa, made this known in a press statement on Sunday.

The statement read in part, “The attention of the Nigerian Army (NA) has been drawn to some social media stuff wrongfully condemning the Army and its Leadership over the announcement of Exercise CROCODILE SMILE VI particularly the Cyber Warfare Component of the Exercise. This year’s Exercise CROCODILE SMILE is scheduled to commence from the 20th of October to the 31st of December 2020 has no relationship with any lawful protest under any guise whatsoever.

“For the records, Exercise CROCODILE SMILE is a yearly exercise in the NA Calendar/Forecast of Events which traditionally holds from October to December of each year.

“Thus, to now insinuate that it is an exercise meant to stifle the ongoing ENDSARS protest is to say the least highly misinformed. Exercise CROCODILE SMILE VI has nothing to do with the ongoing protest and the NA has never been involved in the ongoing protest in any form whatsoever. So far, the army has acted professionally since the civil protest started over two weeks ago.

“The army hereby enjoins all law abiding Nigerians to go about their lawful activities unhindered as the Exercise has nothing to do with ENDSARS protest, but a yearly event set out to train NA officers and soldiers in its efforts to ensuring safety and security of Nigeria and her citizens.”
