'Those Who Shed Innocent Blood, Their Own Blood Will Certainly Be Shed' - MFM Speaks On Shooting Of Peaceful Protesters

MFM urged the Nigerian government to show uncommon leadership in saving the situation, instead of deploying troops against unarmed citizens.

Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has expressed sadness over the shooting and killing of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate area of Lagos on Tuesday night by the Nigerian security forces.

The church, in a statement by its Public Relations Taskforce Committee Chairman, Collins Edomaruse, condemned the attack.

General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry, MFM, Pastor Daniel Olukoya.
MFM urged the Nigerian government to show uncommon leadership in saving the situation, instead of deploying troops against unarmed citizens.

The statement read, "The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries is deeply saddened by the unwarranted, unnecessary, callous, brutal and inhuman use of live bullets by the security forces on Nigerian youths in Lagos, who were on peaceful protests to register their grievances with regards to violation of their fundamental human rights by the security agents.

"It was indeed a Black Tuesday in the annals of Lagos and Nigeria. This is least expected in this century. While youths all over the world are contributing their quota to good governance, the security forces are shooting their own in cold blood, devoid of human feelings and empathy.

"Biblical principles of the Almighty God says that the wickedness of the wicked will consume the wicked. Those who shed innocent blood, their blood will undoubtedly be shed. Let it be known that whatever is done under cover of darkness with the belief that nobody sees it, will surely be brought to light and God the Ultimate Judge, will judge speedily.

"For it is written in Psalm 10.18 'You will hear the cries of the oppressed and the orphans; you will judge in their favour so that that mortal man may cause terror no more'. Our hearts and prayers go to the Nigerian youths and all others negatively affected by this unfortunate and avoidable situation.

"We also commiserate with the parents and guardians of the victims of this extreme show of force, lack of empathy and lack of brotherly love, from those that committed this dastardly act. To the Nigerian government, we will like to advise that from now on, utmost care and caution, coupled with divine wisdom, should be employed in bringing a lasting solution to the problem at hand."

Victor Attah Advocates Scrapping Of Nigeria’s Presidential System

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and elder statesman, Obong Victor Attah has advocated for the scrapping of the presidential system and return to a parliamentary system of government in Nigeria. Obong Attah who spoke yesterday in Uyo while reacting to the ongoing #endsars protests by Nigerian youths stressed that the present presidential system of government the country operates was the cause of her failure.

He noted that Nigeria was better off when it operated a parliamentary system of government as the regions were autonomous, and controlled their resources, had their own Police and only contributed to the central government.

He stressed that the parliamentary system of government allows the people to choose their representatives based on performance and devoid of godfatherism. His words “The presidential system has become very oppressive. It seems it is in our nature to feel once you win an election, you are a conqueror, so you behave exactly as you please, nobody can talk to you, you don’t have to see anybody and that’s what is happening and we abuse it.

“I read a few days ago, that the North wants Jonathan to come back and complete his tenure. The constitution says yes, you can have two terms, but it is only if the people want you back. It does not mean that once elected, you have two tenures and if you didn’t complete your tenure, you should come back and complete it.

“That’s why I say we are not mentally prepared for this presidential system. We are not ready, and that’s one of the reasons I say scrap it and go back to the parliamentary system. In the parliamentary system, if you have a good prime minister like Britain had Margaret Thatcher, you can come back four or five times if your people want you back.

“You are a Prime Minister because you are elected from your small enclave and the whole country sees that you are good, and they insist you become prime minister. That system is what suits us now” The former governor stressed that the problem of Nigeria goes beyond governance, noting that if you bring angels, to operate the system today, it still would fail.

He system said he wants Nigeria to be reborn, adding, ” Let’s give it a new birth, let it become what it was always supposed to be: a federal system and preferably, I say preferably because some people still feel enamoured with this Presidential system, I am not”

Pastor Adeboye: Lekki Toll Gate Massacre Could Complicate Things

The general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of Nigeria Pastor Enoch Adeboye has warned that the shooting of #endsars protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday may worsen the situation of things in the country, Igbere TV reports.

He stated this in a release on Wednesday.

“I condemn in the strongest possible terms, attacks launched by the Nigerian military on unarmed young people, who have been peacefully protesting police brutality over the last 12 days as #endsars protests,” Adeboye said.

“The condemnable actions of the military risks driving the agitations of the young people underground, thereby making the situation unmanageable.

“I call on the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate the tragic events at Lekki and other parts of the country, give justice to all victims even as it engages the #endsars protesters to reach a common agreement to end police brutality.”

To the youth, Adeboye said: “I am also appealing to the youths to allow peace reign & stop any form of action that would give the military any other form of excuse to attack. May the peace of God come upon our nation, now more than ever in Jesus name (Amen).”
