NAPTAN Dissolves Excos, Appoints Caretaker Committee In Anambra

The Awka South and Awka North branch executives of the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) Anambra state chapter, has been dissolved, Orient Daily reports.

This was made known to Orient Daily on Monday, in Awka, by the association’s state chairman and former deputy president, Sir (Chief) Larry Anichebe Nnabuike, who also declared that their tenures has long expired with new caretaker committee installed.

According to Chief Nnabuike, the new caretaker committee comprises of the association’s former PRO, Mr. Nwankwo Emmanuel, who replaces Ifeanyi Chukwume as interim chairman; while Mrs Atogu Patricia and Mr. Nwobi Basil were appointed to replace Ezekwueme Anulika Margaret as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Mr. Nnabuike further stated that the dissolution was contained in their constitution, which, according to him, gives excos opportunity to serve for only three years, unless they are re- elected for a second tenure, which ought to have held next month; but could not due to to the situation of the country.

“We are preparing for an election but the environment is not safe anymore. The election was scheduled to hold in November; but it has been shifted indefinitely due to the recent crisis; but once the problem stops, the election will hold. I’m appointing three man executing to take over until there is an election. The election will come in few months; but before then, we deemed it fit to appoint caretaker committee that will take charge of Awka North and Awka South, with immediate effect.”

He described Awka North and South branch as a key area because, it is in the state capital and its nearness to the state government is of utmost importance. He assured that the association would soon commence building of her PTA office in Awka to help facilitate activities of the association in the state.

While extolling the past exco, Chief Nnabuike challenged the new exco to out- perform their predecessor, who used their various offices to ensure that the goal of the association was achieved.

Meanwhile, the incoming interim chairman, Mr Emmanuel Nwankwo, has assured that he would carry everyone along in the discharge of his duties, even as he pledged to do everything within his power to ensure that the association was moving forward within the space of time given to him.

Rivers win as S’Court strikes out Bayelsa suit on Soku oil field (POLITICS)

The Supreme Court has struck out a suit filed by the Bayelsa state government over the disputed Soku oilfield belonging to Rivers state.

The apex court said by seeking for it to make judicial pronouncement on a matter that the Court of Appeal has not even ruled on, the Bayelsa state government was liable of abuse of court processes.

Bayelsa state government had approached the Supreme Court after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered it to refund the 13 percent derivation it had received over the years from disputed Soku oilfield, to Rivers state.

At the resumed hearing of the matter on Tuesday, Justice Ngwuta, who led a panel of 7 justices, wondered why the Bayelsa state government decided to file a suit at the apex court, whereas steps were being taken to challenge the judgement of the Federal High Court at the Court of Appeal.

Justice Ngwuta observed that the Bayelsa state government was jumping the gun and its action was tantamount to abuse of court process. He asserted that there was no way the Supreme Court could make pronouncement on a judgment that was given by a Federal High Court, when the appellate court has not done so. He explained that the Supreme Court does not have jurisdiction on a matter relating to a High Court. To this end, he directed the Bayelsa state government to take its grievances to the Court of Appeal.

It was on the basis that the counsel to the Bayelsa state government, Kemsauode Wodu, applied for a formal withdrawal of the suit and it was struck out by the Supreme Court.

It will be recalled that Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, while delivering judgement in Suit Number FHC/ABJ/CS/984/19, filed by Attorney-General of Rivers state, against the National Boundary Commission, based on documents from relevant government agencies, had declared that the Soku oilfields belong to Rivers state.

Ekwo had noted that the failure and refusal of the National Boundary Commission to rectify the admitted mistake in the 11th edition of the administrative map of Nigeria since 2002, which erroneously showed St Batholomew River, instead of River Santa Barbara, as the interstate boundary between Rivers and Bayelsa states, was a breach of commission’s statutory duty and a flagrant disobedience of the order of the Supreme Court contained in its judgment delivered on 10/7/2012 in Suit Number SC. 106 /2009.

The judge explained that the continued reliance on the said defective 11th edition of the administrative map of Nigeria by the other government agencies/statutory bodies, particularly, the Revenue Mobilisation , Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the Accountant General of the Federation in the computation of revenue accruable to Rivers state, from the Federation Account, has resulted in the continued unjust denial of derivation funds accruing from the Soku oil wells situate within Rivers state to the detriment of the state government.

Justice Ekwo then directed that notice be served of the decision of the court on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the Accountant General of the Federation.

The judge said the National Boundary Commission cannot unilateral delineate boundaries between Rivers state and Bayelsa state after the Supreme Court judgment on the matter and also dismissed an objection to the suit raised by the National Boundary Commission because it lacked merit.

Igbo Lawyers Decry Divisive Statements, Insist No Igbo/Yoruba Rift

A group of lawyers of Igbo extraction has frowned at divisive statements by a certain individual targeted at pitching camp between the Igbo and Yoruba nation. The group, under the aegis of League of Igbo Youth Lawyers (LIYOLAW), comprising solicitors, advocates, entrepreneurs, and other professionals and civil men, insisted that Igbo and Yoruba were people of like minds and culture and have no reason to fight themselves.

In a statement issued by its president, Bar. Stanley Okafor, the group advised Igbo residents in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria to disregard the publication and concentrate on the notable business of economic development and nation building.

It called on security agencies to fish out those behind the publication and deal with them according to law.

The statement partly read, “The attention of League of Igbo Youth Lawyers (LIYOLAW), consisting of young men and women of Igbo extraction including solicitors, advocates, entrepreneurs, and other professionals and civil men, has been drawn to a criminal publication by a misguided malcontent who identified himself as Adeyinka Grandson, and who claimed to speak for a Young Yoruba for Freedom group.

“We advise all Igbo resident in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria to disregard the divisive and distractive publication and to concentrate on the notable business of economic development and nation building. Igbo and Yoruba are people of like mind and culture, and have no reason to fight themselves.

“We call on the security agencies to immediately identify this meaningless minus and those he is working for, and deal with them according to law.

“We however warn that any further attack on any Igbo, or such threat or harrassment would draw grave consequences of resistance from all men of goodwill. To preserve national security is a task we must all commit to.”

Meanwhile, governors of SouthWest states who were hosted by Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday, called on Igbo residents of the zone to go on with their normal life, ignoring a viral video by “one inconsequential human being by the name Adeyinka Grandson.” He added that the governors and ministers from the SouthWest had discussed the issue and that the said Adeyinka had no authority to speak on their behalf, adding “that video does not reflect what we stand for in Yorubaland and the video should be totally discarded.”

N’Delta Militants Demand Oil Control, Threaten Attack On Facilities

Tension continues to escalate as Niger Delta militants, under the auspices of Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA), has demanded total control of oil resources from the region. The group also threatened to commence attacks on oil facilities across the oil rich region if the federal government failed to meet their demands as well as the list of conditions presented by the #endsars protesters in Nigeria.

RNDA’s self-styled leader, Major General, Johnmark Ezonebi, in an electronic mail statement, said the coalition had directed multinational oil companies to evacuate their staff to avoid any causality, warning that failure might portend terrible situation that will be worse than #endsars protests in Nigeria.

“In support of the existing demands that could stop the mayhem on foreign oil multinationals, oil and gas infrastructure and Joint Military Taskforce involved in Operation Crocodile Smile in the region. We have vowed to take the destiny of our region into our hands and kick start the occupation of all the major oil wells and the platforms. We will also bring down all major crude oil production pipelines to zero.”

RNDA had demanded urgent release of the N98 billion gas flare penalty funds to the host communities of the Niger Delta which they said was domiciled in the Federation Accounts through the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) by the international oil companies.

The groups recalled that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration withdrew $1billion from the Excess Crude Account sometime in 2019 to acquire heavy weapons to fight Boko Haram insurgents in the North East. “This is wicked and insensitive to the peace accord signed with the people of the Niger Delta region, most especially the RNDA militant group that accepted the ceasefire agreement on 21st of August 2016 and nothing has been done so far,” it said.

“We demand the total control of our God-given resources in the region, and if some parts of the Northern states are allowed to operate and will be given license to engage in illegal mining and sale of gold, it means it is time the people of Niger Delta region especially the Ijaw ethnic nationality be given equal opportunity to go ahead with artisan and local refining of crude oil in the creeks without any form of intimidation and harassment from the Nigerian government as well.

“RNDA demands that the riverine communities in Niger Delta be connected to the cities with roads and bridges with provisions in the 2021 budget, a road project for instance, should connect Warri to Ogulagha, Burutu local government area which is a host to Forcados Terminal, producing over one million barrel of crude oil that contribute trillions of dollars to the federal government on daily basis.

But, in a swift reaction, Delta state deputy Governor, Barr Kingsley Burutu Otuaro said that the country cannot afford to face another crisis considering the poor economy in Nigeria.

Otuaro appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to find a way forward with a view to ensuring that peaceful coexistence prevails. “We cannot afford to be facing another crisis considering the poor economy and I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to step into the demands of the militants under different groups and provide for them.”

A’Ibom Govt Vows To Fish, Bring #endsars Looters To Book

Akwa Ibom state government has vowed to bring to book those behind destruction and looting of public and corporate buildings, items in Uyo, the state capital.

Inspecting public and private property burnt, destroyed and vandalised in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, on Friday, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said such act of violence was not familiar to the people of the state. He, however, admitted that it was impossible for outsiders to have unleashed such mayhem on the state without indigenous collaborators.

“We are saddened by this experience. It is clearly alien to Akwa Ibom people. Our position is clear, we can’t surrender our state to evil plunder. We must ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. We condemn this act in totality and trust that God will stand up for Akwa Ibom,” he said.

He advised the General Manager, Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), Pastor Anietie Ukpe, and other affected persons/offices, to take inventory of items destroyed by the hoodlums and communicate same to the state government. On his part, the DG, Pastor Anietie Ukpe, said that the destruction was an attack on democracy and freedom of information.

Ukpe, who conducted the commissioner round the burnt building and four vehicles burnt, said the loss was huge. He also regretted the traumatic experience his staff were subjected to, as some of them had to jump over the fence for safety. Other affected buildings and corporate organisations visited by the commissioner include the LG Showroom, Ikot Ekpene Road, where the hoodlums had completely emptied down to the warehouse.

Pele Ranked The Greatest Footballer Of All Time By BBC Poll, Messi 2nd

As Pele turned 80, BBC Sport asked it's thousands of readers to rate his achievements among some of the other GOATs

The results have now been counted and Pele was ranked as the greatest, with Barcelona's Lionel Messi in second and Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo in third.

We have put the players in order of the results below.

Note: The Ballon d'Or could only be won by a European player until 1995

1: Pele (Santos, NY Cosmos & Brazil)

World Cup wins: 1958, 1962, 1970 European Cup/Champions League wins: 0
Ballons d'Or: 0
League titles: 7
International caps/goals: 92/77

A teenage dream who was the highest-paid and highest-profile sports star in the world in his pomp, Pele was a phenomenon.

Breaking on to the global scene aged 17 with a hat-trick in the World Cup semi-final and two more in the final, Brazil's leading goalscorer is one of just four players to have scored in four different World Cup tournaments (1958, 1962, 1966 and 197.

He won three of those and was kicked out of the '66 tournament in England through some brutal defending - the only way to stop him.

Not just a goalscorer, Pele had a hand in 53% of Brazil's 19 goals as they won the 1970 World Cup (four goals, six assists) and was as adept at playing behind the main striker as he was leading the line.

The greatest? Or does the fact he never played club football in Europe hold him back in your eyes?

"Had he been playing now, Pele would surely have made the move to Europe," says BBC Radio 5 Live football correspondent John Murray.

"It's the difficulty with comparing generations. We can only judge him on the record he has and it is truly phenomenal.

"The achievements of Maradona, Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo make it a close call but, even now, Pele still has a strong claim to be considered the game's greatest player."

2: Lionel Messi (Barcelona & Argentina)

World Cup wins: 0
European Cup/Champions League wins: 4
Ballons d'Or: 6
League titles: 10
International caps/goals: 140/71

"No-one else does the things he does, the way he does them - and no-one ever has done. He is simply the greatest to have ever played the game."

The words of Gary Lineker no less.

Can you even mount an argument against Messi being number one on this list? We all know just how good he is. Perhaps a lack of international success with Argentina and 'only' winning things with Barcelona? But we're splitting hairs there.

An absolute genius.

3: Cristiano Ronaldo (Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus & Portugal)

World Cup wins: 0
European Cup/Champions League wins: 5
Ballons d'Or: 5
League titles: 7
International caps/goals: 167/101

The Champions League's all-time top goalscorer and scorer of 100 goals for Portugal - Cristiano Ronaldo is a remarkable player. Especially when you consider how he has reinvented himself from spindly winger to powerful number nine.

Whether you rank him ahead of Messi or not is the debate of our footballing time - unlike Messi, though, he has won titles in three countries. And won a major tournament with his national side.

4: Diego Maradona (Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla, Newell's Old Boys & Argentina)

World Cup wins: 1986
European Cup/Champions League wins: 0
Ballons d'Or: 0
League titles: 3
International caps/goals: 91/34

What a player. If you haven't seen it, please go and watch the recent documentary about his time in Naples. It's superb.

Single-handedly (pretty much) dragged his Argentina team to World Cup glory, and carried Napoli to two Serie A titles. Does that separate him from Lionel Messi? Up to you.

5: Johan Cruyff (Ajax, Barcelona, LA Aztecs, Washington Diplomats, Levante, Feyenoord & the Netherlands)

World Cup wins: 0
European Cup/Champions League wins: 3
Ballons d'Or: 3
League titles: 10
International caps/goals: 48/33

A supremely gifted individual who was also all about the team - not winning a World Cup with his band of ludicrously good Dutch brothers in the 1970s may be the only blot on his copybook.

Produced one of the World Cup's most famous moments, had a turn named after him, and went on to inspire Pep Guardiola and countless others when coaching Barca's so-called 'dream team' of the early 1990s.

Lost a lot of money with an unwise investment in pig farming - which is not a line you're likely to ever read about Messi or Ronaldo...

6: Ronaldo de Lima (Cruzeiro, PSV, Barcelona, Inter, Real Madrid, Milan, Corinthians & Brazil)

World Cup wins: 1994, 2002
European Cup/Champions League wins: 0
Ballons d'Or: 2
League titles: 1
International caps/goals: 98/62

Wherever you end up ranking Ronaldo, we can all agree he would be higher if it wasn't for horrific injuries. At his peak, perhaps in his season at Barcelona or his first year at Inter before yet another setback, he was as close to unplayable as it gets. It's no wonder he broke the world transfer record twice by the age of 21.

Take a look at his highlights reel and observe - the jaw-dropping close control, the trademark step-overs at speed that humiliated a decade of goalkeepers, the powerful finish with either foot - he really was something else.

It's bordering on criminal that he only won one league title in his career. One!

7: Franz Beckenbauer (Bayern Munich, NY Cosmos, Hamburg & West Germany)

World Cup wins: 1974
European Cup/Champions League wins: 3
Ballons d'Or: 2
League titles: 8
International caps/goals: 103/14

'Der Kaiser' won the World Cup as player and manager and is living proof you don't have to be an attacker to rank among the very best.

A playmaker even from centre-back, Beckenbauer was equally at home in midfield or defence and made his debut on the left wing. What you call a total player.

He won three European Cups in a row for the dominant Bayern side of the mid-1970s.

8: Zinedine Zidane (Cannes, Bordeaux, Juventus, Real Madrid & France)

World Cup wins: 1998
European Cup/Champions League wins: 1
Ballons d'Or: 1
League titles: 3
International caps/goals: 108/31

Another player who didn't win nearly enough honours, and much like Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane re-imagined a position.

Before 'Zizou' the stereotypical number 10 was your playmaker but could be kicked out of the game, was there to be shot at. Not a chance with Zidane, who combined the speed of thought and foot of a ballerina with the frame and menace of a cruiserweight.

At his best Zidane was so good I couldn't even really tell you where he played. A number 10, sure, but he'd often end up on the left, drop deep to take the ball from the defence or goalkeeper, and yet somehow still pop up in the area as well.

Not an out-and-out goalscorer or a striker, but still won the World Cup for France with two headers and scored the best goal ever seen in a Champions League final.

A complete player, who even knew how to sign off in disgrace with a red card for a headbutt after scoring in his second World Cup final.

9: Ferenc Puskas (Budapest Honved, Real Madrid & Hungary & Spain)

World Cup wins: 0
European Cup/Champions League wins: 3
Ballons d'Or: 0
League titles: 10
International caps/goals: 89/87

There is a legitimate case for stating the 'Magic Magyars' Hungary team of the 1950s was the best in the world. They lost just one match in six years - which, unfortunately, happened to be the World Cup final.

That's how good Ferenc Puskas was. He was 31 when he joined Real Madrid and still won five league titles, three European Cups and scored 242 goals.

He scored 514 goals in 529 matches in the Hungarian and Spanish leagues. Ridiculous really, isn't it?

10: Alfredo di Stefano (River Plate, Millionarios, Real Madrid, Espanyol & Argentina, Colombia & Spain)

World Cup wins: 0
European Cup/Champions League wins: 5
Ballons d'Or: 2
League titles: 13
International caps/goals: 41/29

Di Stefano won his fifth and final European Cup in 1960 - still only one player has more wins.

He scored in five finals in a row, and won them all.

And, yes, he played for three countries on the international scene. Beat that.

Commuters In Lagos Stranded After Burning Of BRT Buses By Protesters

Life continued to pick up on Monday in Lagos after hoodlums attacked public and private facilities last week following the EndSARS protests.

Commercial buses are back on the roads but commuters had a raw deal as the burning of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses took a toll.

The buses were burnt at their terminals in Oyingbo and Berger Yard.

There were no BRT buses plying Ikorodu Road, leaving many commuters stranded.

A similar situation was faced by those in Oyingbo axis, where the bus terminal was locked

Though there were buses available for the commuters that came out, but the fare was increased.

Some of the commuters lamented the burning of the buses.

They pleaded with the government to act fast and rebuild the terminal to make life easier.

Read Also: VIDEO: Hoodlums set BRT buses on fire in Oyingbo

Some motorists in Ikorodu took to the restricted BRT corridor.

A civil engineer, Rasheed Ganiyu, said he was unable to get a bus to work.

“I had to call my boss to tell him I wouldn’t be able to make it to work. I’m glad that he is an understanding person,” he said.

The yellow-painted commercial buses and some private vehicle owners came to the rescue.

“There are no buses to drive; will there still be jobs for us?” a driver asked.

Another driver who simply gave his name as Segun was optimistic that once government officials fixed the charred vehicles or bought another set, everything would be back to normal.

Segun, however, was not sure how soon it would be.

“It is sad that we have to go through this; although we don’t know how long it will take for us to be back on track,” he said.

Another commuter, Moses Ayegba, a private auditor, decried the burning of the buses.

“We expect that fares will begin to increase. We have not recovered from the economic downturn due to the pandemic; now paying through our noses for transportation is a lot to deal with,” he said.

George Nyedirike, a manager of a synthetic hair manufacturing company, said many more people do not have alternatives.

Wife Cuts Husband’s Manhood In Taraba For Impregnating Another Lady

A middle-aged woman, on Sunday, reportedly cut off her husband’s manhood in Taraba State for allegedly impregnating another woman.

This is coming about four months after the police arrested a 32-year-old housewife, Halima Umar, who cut off her husband’s dick with a knife in the same state for marrying another wife.

It was gathered at the weekend that the man, simply identified as Babangida but popularly known as Bangis, who is in his early 30s, suffered severe injuries on his genitals after his wife attempted to cut off his dick.

The incident happened at Appawa community, a suburb of Lau Local Government area, about 12:15a.m. when Bangis was asleep. Bangis was immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

According to a source, who is also a neighbour to the victim, Bangis went to the market and after a hectic day, he was tired and slept off. He said Bangis was yet to have a child with his wife.

“In the morning, the wife cut the manhood because he impregnated another woman. He fought back and collected the knife from her, but she also injured herself in the process. Neighbours heard screaming and shouting in the house and they rushed to their apartment to meet the sad incident,” he said.

When asked why she made attempts to cut off her husband’s manhood, the woman replied: “The Bible says we should cut off anything that can make one to sin.”

As of press time yesterday, the spokesperson for the police command, DSP David Misal, was yet to confirm the incident.
