Seek Forgiveness From ‘Bruised’ Youths – Duke To Nigerian Leaders

Former Cross River governor, Mr Donald Duke, has advised leaders to seek forgiveness from Nigerian youths, who he said have been bruised terribly.

Duke said this in Calabar, Sunday, in a chat with Journalists, few hours after gun and matchets-weilding young men went on wanton destruction of public and private property across the metropolis.

The former SPD presidential candidate during the last general election warned against casting aspersions, and posited that for the nation to move forward, the fatal wounds inflicted on Nigerian youth over the years should be consciously made to heal.

According to him, Nigerian youths were now feeling cheated by reason of where their leaders have placed them, and reiterated that the older generation still lording over the country needs the forgiveness of the youths, noting that the trust deficit must be bridged so as to regain their confidence.

He said:”The youths have been badly bruised and their scars must be well taken care of. The youths are telling us something not in words but in actions, they are speaking in their own manner because people speak differently, some speak in parables too.

“The youths have to forgive us first because we are the ones who are managing their resources and they are telling us that our management is poor; they cannot be silenced, they must be heard .”If there is right to life then there is right to livelihood, giving them a job or engaging them is not a privilege but a right .

There is a trust deficit between the people especially the youths, and the government. Our democracy is 21 years already, we can’t wait to be fools at 40.”
The former governor further submitted that Nigeria was now in a situation where the rich cannot sleep because the poor cannot eat.
“We have always warned that Nigeria was seating on a gun powder, from this moment we must be very sincere with the people. We must mean what we say and say what we mean .

The youths feel cheated because the older generation had better opportunities at their age .
“The youths need to know that we are listening to them ,the youths should be able to hold us accountable .

The engagement of the youth is pivotal. The huge percentage of our youths are idle, infact over 80 percent of them, because when you see someone carting away used toilet seat, then there is a big problem.

“Television sets can be replaced, cars can be replaced but a bruised mind is very dangerous to handle. Young people are beginning to ask questions and if the youths feel your statements are empty, they will not take you serious anymore.

“If they were gainfully employed or engaged, they will not come out in their large numbers. We must create jobs, we must find ways for them to earn money.
“The government must be ingenious in finding solutions to these problems. Let’s assure our teeming youths that they are not alone. If China can create jobs for a billions people, then Nigeria can also do it .

“What we experienced in Cross River was a deep seated resentment from the people who feel a certain state of hopelessness,” he stated

Ethnic incitements resulting from tribalism is one of the greatest challenges Nigeria 🇳🇬 is grappling with as a nation.

Recently, and as a result of the movement for positive change, #endsars, some elements took to social media and other fora to make inciting statements to pitch ethnic groups against each other in arms.

Some notable Nigerians, regional based organizations, and youth bodies have risen in one voice to condemn the ugly trend.

In this footage, Ijeoma Onuigbo lends her voice to the current situation in suing for unity among Nigerians.

Governor Sanwo-Olu Aware Of Plans By Soldiers From Bonny Camp To Attack, Kill Lekki Protesters

Shortly after the governor declared a round-the-clock curfew in the state, some persons were captured on camera dismantling the CCTV attached to the toll gate, one of the main convergence points for young Nigerians demanding an end to police brutality and state repression.

The plan to use soldiers from Bonny Camp, Victoria Island, Lagos, to attack and kill peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate area of the city on Tuesday may not be without the knowledge of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after all, fresh facts at the disposal of SaharaReporters have indicated.

Shortly after the governor declared a round-the-clock curfew in the state, some persons were captured on camera dismantling the CCTV attached to the toll gate, one of the main convergence points for young Nigerians demanding an end to police brutality and state repression.

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
As nightfall crept across the landscape, most of the street lighting around the area were suddenly turned off.

Minutes later, heavily armed Nigerian Army personnel moved into the scene to complete the plan.

By the time sounds of their guns died down, dozens of protesters had been killed.

According to a source, over 90 persons were killed across Lagos alone during the violence that erupted after Tuesday night's incident but there are ongoing efforts by the government to conceal this fact.

One victim of the Lekki shooting will have one of his legs amputated tomorrow due to the extent of damage sustain during the attack.

Though Governor Sanwo-Olu blamed ‘forces beyond our control’ for the attack and insured that he had no authority over military engagements, available facts at the disposal of this medium indicate that the governor is being economical with the truth.

Angered by the killings by the army and the Lagos State Government's suspected involvement in the massacre, angry residents attacked public properties and also destroying some known investments of a former governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Television Continental and The Nation Newspaper are two among several investments burnt by irate youth.

The toll plaza of the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, another money spinner said to be controlled by the former Lagos governor was also burnt.

#endsars PROTEST: LAGOS EVALUATES FILES OF 229 ARRESTED FOR ARSON, MURDER, STEALING, OTHERS

...To Prosecute those with Prima Facie Case

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice will be prosecuting suspects who allegedly took advantage of the #endsars protests to destroy and loot public and private property in different parts of the State.

Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, who disclosed this today, called on Lagosians to maintain peace, law and order in their respective communities, pledging the commitment of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration to uphold the rule of law at all times.

He revealed that the State Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi has gone round relevant Police formations with a team of Prosecutors to evaluate files of those arrested by the police with a view to determining those that have prima facie case made against them.

“229 suspects were arrested by the Police for various criminal offenses ranging from arson, murder, stealing, malicious damage of property and assault before and after the Statewide curfew imposed by the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to restore law and order in Lagos”, the Commissioner stated.

He averred that after the conclusion of the evaluation exercise, those who have cases to answer will be arraigned before the Courts on Monday while others will be released.
Recall that some hoodlums hijacked the peaceful protest of youths against brutality by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police personnel tagged #endsars to wreak havoc and disturb the peace in the State.

Ekiti Raises Alarm Over Looting Of Poisonous Food Items

The Ekiti State government raised an alarm on Saturday that huge quantities of poisonous items, mistaken for food yet to be distributed as COVID-19 palliative, were looted in warehouses in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Akin Omole, said in a statement in Ado Ekiti that raising the alarm became expedient to forestall any harm that could befall anyone who consumed the items.

Also reportedly looted was the office of the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) in Ado Ekiti.

“Information at our disposal revealed that the Federal Government’s silos, the ADP warehouse and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) stores, all in Ado- Ekiti, were attacked by hoodlums under the guise of seeking Covid-19 palliatives.

“We insist that Ekiti state currently has no Covid-19 palliative warehouse as all the palliatives had been distributed.

“Unfortunately, the items carted away were Single Super Phosphate and NPK fertilisers, which they erroneously thought was “Gaari’’, cassava grains.

“The SEMA store too has only emergency supplies for disaster response.

“Some people even made away with pre-fermented corns preserved for planting. All these items are poisonous and not fit for consumption.

“We, therefore, appeal to our people not to consume these items because they can kill,’’ Mr Omole warned.

In a similar statement, Olabode Adetoyi, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, confirmed the looting, warning that most of the items carted away contained chemically-treated seeds meant for planting.

“They are not suitable for consumption,’’ he declared.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the looters actually defied a heavy downpour in Ado-Ekiti on Friday night to storm the warehouses.

Many travelled long distances either in their private vehicles or in taxis or on motorcycles to get to the warehouses to loot.

Soldiers drafted to the warehouses were late as most of them were almost empty before they arrived. They deployed minimal force in their attempt to send the looters away, but in spite of this, some of them sustained injuries.

Some residents said the looters were encouraged by similar incidents earlier reported in Lagos and Osun states, where mobs looted bags of rice, beans, spaghetti and other consumables stored in government warehouses.
