Gay man gives testimony after testing HIV positive when 3 men gang-raped him at 19 for being gay

A gay Nigerian man named Ayo took to Instagram to give a testimony after he tested positive for HIV after he was gang-raped.
Ayo said three men raped him exactly 5 years ago, when he was 19, because he's gay. He added that he "lost" his "virginity" from the rape and later tested HIV positive.

He said he also lost his home and became an orphan.
However, he explained that his HIV diagnosis made him start living a healthy life. He stayed away from smoking and drinking, started eating healthy and taking his medications. He also started thinking less.
As a result, he says he's now healthier and his viral load is "undetectable" while his CD4 is high.

For those living with HIV, having a high CD4 count and a low or undetectable viral load are desirable.

‘DCP Abba Kyari extorted over N41m from me’ — businessman petitions judicial panel

Abba Kyari, a deputy commissioner of police (DCP), has been accused of extorting over N41 million from Afeez Mojeed, a Lagos-based businessman.

The extortion, Mojeed claimed, was done in 2014 when Kyari was officer in charge of the now disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS) in Lagos.

In a series of petitions between 2016 and 2018, Mojeed sought justice through the Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), but to no avail.

In a fresh petition filed on October 22, 2020, through Salawu Akingbolu & Co, Mojeed’s counsel, and addressed to the newly formed judicial panel of inquiry and restitution for victims of SARS-related abuses in Lagos, Kyari and his officers were accused of forcefully taking about 32 items from Mojeed’s house during a raid in 2014.

The Lagos government had set up a judicial panel to attend to cases of abuses, especially by the officers of the disbanded police squad, after the protest against police brutality.

In his petition, Mojeed said his ordeal began on the night of October 18, 2014, when four gun-wielding policemen from SARS broke into his house.

The businessman, who was home with his pregnant wife, 18 month-old son and mother in-law, had thought it was a robbery attack.

“They forcefully took his wedding ring and that of his wife from them, opened their wardrobe and took the sum N280,000 and the sum of N50,000 was also taken from his car, after which the Honda Accord (2008) model was seized and taken away till today,” the petition read.

Phones, landed properties, cheque books, bank cards and other valuable documents were allegedly taken from his house.

14 DAYS IN DETENTION

After ransacking the house, Mojeed was reportedly taken to the SARS office in Ikeja where he was detained for 14 days– from October 18 to October 31, 2014.

He was later “arraigned on a trump-up charge” of stealing N97 million and for over one year, the matter was in court, the police “never showed up or brought any witness”.

Ater several adjournments, the court reportedly struck out the charge against him.

According to the petition, while in detention, “the police under the supervision and threat of Abba Kyari (OC SARS) forced him to sign three Zenith Bank cheques in the sum of N150,000 each making N450,000 in total on October 22 – 23, 2014 and gave the sum to one Alabi Olawale Nurudeen who is also one of their cronies to withdraw”.

The police also allegedly obtained password to his bank card with which they withdrew another N395,000 from his account between October 20 to 23, 2014.

FORCEFUL TRANSFER OF 41 MILLION

Allegedly on the directive of Kyari, Mojeed was taken by “one Inspector Fola, Corporal Bolu and Corporal Akeem to Diamond Bank Ajah branch on October 23 and 24, 2014 to forcefully transfer the sum of 41 Million and N800,000 respectively from his corporate account M. Mateen Concepts into the account of one Obinna Edward, whom our client had never seen or heard of before, after which they shared the money.

“All these acts perpetrated on our client were exhibited with serious injuries inflicted on him due to a series of slaps and beatings for them to get access to his ATM password, signature on cheques and also transfer from his account.”

Mojeed’s counsel had confronted Kyari in his then office in Ikeja on why he would seize his money and properties without a court order, but Kyari reportedly said he had kept the money as an exhibit.

“But till date, they have not released any of the items to him including his car which which we got information had been taken away by Abba Kyari,” the petition read.

Kyari was also accused of attempting to connive with Mojeed’s counsel to further extort him.

The senior police officer reportedly told the counsel that Mojeed was an internet fraudster and that was why they took the money from him.

“He also went further that there was another N15 million in another account, that the counsel should cooperate with him to take it the way they took N41 million and a sum of N5 million would be given to him while they would take N10 million,” the petition read.

The counsel was allegedly threatened over the refusal to “cooperate” with Kyari.

A November 14, 2014, medical report seen by TheCable, showed how Mojeed suffered hearing difficulty, a bad right eye and recurrent chest pain, all of these following police brutality.

As of the time of filing this report, Kyari, who now heads the intelligence response team (IRT) of the inspector-general of police, was unreachable as his telephone lines were switched off.

Police Weep Over Killing Of 2 DPOs, Officer’s Beheading, Burning Of 11 Stations

• I borrowed N5m to buy transformer for my constituents to save my house from arsonists, Ekiti lawmaker

• I took one generating set, two cartons of beer at Oyo police station, suspect confesses

Officers of the Anambra State police command yesterday wept over the killing of four policemen and burning of 11 Police Stations by the hoodlums.

In the crisis that erupted after the #endsars protests, two Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state were killed, while an Inspector of Police was beheaded and his body burnt. Two others were also injured.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Mr. John Abang, disclosed this yesterday in Awka during the parade of 17 suspected hoodlums.

Abang said 11 stations were burnt down and six vandalised during which the hoodlums carted away motorcycles, ammunition and other valuables.

He said about 20 vehicles were razed, including an Armoured Personnel Carrier and patrol vehicles. The Commissioner, who applauded his men for the professionalism with which they managed the crisis, said the lives of police officers in the state were still in danger as hoodlums were still on their trail and most cannot go home.

“In the course of these heinous acts, the hoodlums murdered four police officers including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Osumenyi Division, CSP Akpan Joseph, ASP Agu Micheal, the Station Officer (SO), Osumenyi Division and a young PC Udegbunam Sunday Celestine, leaving two others injured.

“In their state of callousness, the hoodlums also murdered and beheaded Insp John Oche attached to the Anti-Cult Unit and burnt his body to ashes parading the streets with the deceased policeman’s head.

“In addition to attacking police formations, other government and private facilities such as the Revenue House, Ocha Brigade office and private trucks loaded with goods were attacked and valuable properties looted.

“Despite concerted efforts by the hoodlums to create a state of lawlessness in the state, the command stood its ground and repelled their attacks in various formations such as Area Command Onitsha, Ogidi, Awada, CPS Onitsha, Inland town and ‘B’ Divisions.”

MEANWHILE, a member of the House of Representatives, Mr Olarewaju Ibrahim, yesterday said he had to hurriedly borrow the sum of N5 million to procure transformer for his constituents in dire need of power supply to save his house from being razed to the ground during the raging protests against police brutality.

Ibrahim, who is a member of the House Committee on Power, stated this during an interactive session with the Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, while defending the 2021 budgetary allocation to his ministry.

The lawmaker representing Mona/Ilejemeje/Ido Osi federal constituency of Ekiti State on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), said the situation would have been averted if the power distribution companies were living up to their responsibility.

The lawmaker disclosed that he made fruitless efforts to prevail on the distribution company in his area to get a replacement for the broken down transformer for his constituents who were left to wallow in darkness since last year.

The lawmaker claimed that even after procuring the transformer, officials of the distribution company in his area still went ahead to insist on payment of monies for installation and metering of houses in his constituency. This, he said, was tantamount to an act of wickedness on the part of those running the power sector in the country.

Chairman of the committee, Mr Magaji Aliyu Dau, who emphatised with his colleague, enjoined the Minister to put in place punitive measures against distribution companies found wanting of breaching laid down rules.

He said: “As we speak now, one of our colleagues couldn’t attend this budget defence session due to the problem of supply of transformers in his area. The only person we know is you (Minister). We are on the same level since you are APC, I am APC. Please sanction the DisCos, punish them. If you do that, you will be our darling.”

IN another development, one of the suspected looters of Iseyin Police Station in Oyo State, Raheem Toheeb, yesterday confessed that he took two cartons of beer and a generating set at the station during an attack last week.

The 28-year old suspect said the two cartons of beer were shared among the protesters during the ‘struggle’ but that the generating set was returned after the youths leader in the town directed them to return all looted items. Toheeb, however, denied joining others to set the station ablaze.

The suspect made the confession when the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu, paraded nine suspects over last week’s attacks on police stations across the state.

Other suspects arrested are Taoreed Hamsat, Tajudeen Ibrahim, Moshood Fatai, Musibau Abubakar, Sikiru Aliu, Fasasi Fatai, Isiaka Olaniyi and Adeleke Akeem.

Addressing reporters at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Enwonwu said the suspects were among those who carted away arms and ammunition in various looted police stations in the state.

He listed the items stolen to include one generating set, Nino wall clock belonging to the division, one Bajaj motorcycle, one Hero 125 motorcycle and a TVS motorcycle with registration number; DGB215QK.

The CP said: “Consequent upon the looted stations, six police officers were gruesomely murdered, five divisional police headquarters, police patrol vehicles were burnt down and exhibits looted in exhibits rooms with many police arms and and ammunition carted away due to activities of criminal elements who capitalized on the protest to perpetrate their heinous crimes.

“Nevertheless, the Oyo State police command has arrested no fewer than nine suspected arsonists and looters for allegedly attacking the divisional police headquarters, Iseyin and setting the station ablaze under the pretext of #endsars protest that lingered for many days.

“In light of this, the command would continue to put up spirited efforts to arrest all other hoodlums who have carried out massive looting and coordinated attacks on police stations and personnel.”

Saleh Mamman: Nigeria Now Generates 13,000MW Of Power

The Minister of Power, Mr Saleh Mamman, has said that the Nigeria’s installed grid power generation capacity has grown from 8,000mw to 13,000mw under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mamman made this known on Wednesday during the 2021 budget defence before the House of Representatives Committee on Power in Abuja.

He also said that the distribution system had the capacity to evacuate 5,500mw of power having grown from 4,500mw in 2015.

“Under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, the country’s grid power capacity has increased significantly from the time this administration took over in 2015 to date.

“During the period between 2015 to date, the sector has recorded successes and has faced challenges.

“In order to deliver this administration’s promise of providing stable and affordable power to Nigerians, a way forward was defined and supported by Mr President’s political will,” he said.

However, committee expressed displeasure with the minister for not ensuring sanctions for Distribution Companies (DisCos) for alleged “gross irresponsibility and wickedness in the execution of their contract”.

The Chairman of the committee, Alliyu Magaji (APC-Jigawa), asked the minister to met out stiffer sanctions to the DisCos, to enable them to sit up and provide the desired services to Nigerian people.

Magaji said that if the minister ensured the sanction of the DisCos, he would become the darling of lawmakers and the entire Nigerians.

The chairman informed the minister that as far as the House was concerned, the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET) was still under the purview of his committee.

The rep said that the purported transfer of the parastatal to the Ministry of Finance was unacceptable to the legislators.

Members of the committee raised concern about power supply to their various constituencies, urging the minister to ensure supply. (NAN)

Sirika: Nigeria Air Will Be Delivered Before 2023

Hadi Sirika, the minister for aviation, says plans are underway to ensure that Nigeria Air, the national carrier, is delivered before the end of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Sirika was addressing journalists on after appearing before the senate committee on aviation for the 2021 budget defence by the ministry and its agencies on Tuesday.

“We are on it. The transaction adviser has brought in the outline business case. It is being reviewed by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC),” NAN quoted him to have said.

“Soon after its completion, it will go to the federal executive council for approved. We will not leave this government without having it in place.”

Hadi Sirika, the minister of aviation, had unveiled the national carrier project at the 2018 Farnborough International Airshow in London.

However, Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, said the project was suspended due to investor apathy.

On the need to site another airport in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital, as an alternate to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, Sirika said: “Lokoja is a cosmopolitan town, it’s a mini Nigeria and it is extremely very important in the growth and development of our country”.

“We have a lot of agricultural activities there. There is fishery, there is perishable item production and so on.

“So siting an airport there is quite apt. For me, it is something we should have done long ago for its importance.”

The minister also explained that the federal government is addressing the issue of dilapidated equipment at some airports across the country one after the other based because there are not enough resources to carry out such all at once.

While addressing the committee, Sirika said 10 new airports will be constructed across the country to boost civil aviation.

“There are airports coming up in Benue, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Lafia, Damaturu, Anambra and so forth. All of these show that civil aviation is growing during this administration,” he said.

“So, we have about 10 new airports coming up; that is almost half the number of airports we used to have in Nigeria. We are adding 50 percent of the number of airports.

“Certainly we are making Ilorin one of the best airports because in the first place it is an alternate for Lagos”

He also noted that Kebbi, Osubi, Dutse, Jigawa airports have been taken over by the federal government and the Gombe state government has also written to the federal authorities, asking it to take over the Gombe Airport.

Again, FG, ASUU Unable To Agree On Payment Platform

For the second time in one week, the meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities deadlocked on Wednesday as they failed to agree on the payment platform to be used in disbursing the salary arrears and the N30bn Earned Allowance of the university lecturers.

The FG team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, had offered to pay the salary arrears and the N30bn Earned Allowances of the university lecturers through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System platform pending the roll-out of ASUU’s preferred platform, the University Transparency and Accountability Solution.

But the ASUU delegation led by its National President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, insisted that the payment should be made through the UTAS.
Sequel to their failure to reach a consensus, the parties agreed to consult their respective principals and stakeholders and adjourned till next week Wednesday.
