*LOVE ONE ANOTHER*
*BIBLE READING : 1 CORINTHIANS 13:1-9*
*Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4: 7-8(NKJV).*
The Bible says we are to love one another. Sounds good, but the big question is 'can we do it'? People can be irritating sometimes. Even people at church can be difficult and painful to love. Sometimes it is hard enough to love our own family but still, it is expedient we practice love on an every day basis. The Bible instructs us to do so. 1 John 3:11(NKJV); "For this is the message you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another." This is not a suggestion but a command.
Jesus Himself gave love priority over all other Christian virtues. Every thought, response, and act of goodwill must first pass through the fine filter of love, or it means nothing at all. 1Corinthians 13:1-3. This message may sound irrelevant to our generation that depends on police departments, guns, and force to uphold and fulfill the law. Yet Jesus' simple command requires greater strength than any of us naturally possess more power than any man-made weapon.
When we demonstrate Christian love, it distinguishes believers from the rest of the world (John 13:35). Notice, Jesus did not say that people will know that you are my disciples if you promote my agenda, or wear Christian T-shirts or a WWJD bracelet, or have a fish decal on your car but rather, we are Christians because of the way we love one another.
From the very beginning, God's plan was to develop a people that reflected his character. And what is his character? Love. "And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love, remains in God, and God remains in him. In this, love is made complete in us so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, because as he is, so also are we in this world" (1 John 4:16-17 CS.
Believers are God's advertisement to a watching society as to how individuals could best live in the society. God loved us so that He could demonstrate His mercy to us in the person of His Son. (John 3:16). In like manner, everyone around us is of incredible value to God as a potential object of His mercy. His one and only Son died in their place. Since people matter so much to Him, they ought to matter to us. And we, therefore, need to love them as He loves them.
One major reason why people find it hard to love is because it makes them feel vulnerable to betrayal and heartbreak. Yes it is possible to be heart broken because you loved, but it is still not a good reason not to love. God has His way of settling these matters (Luke 17:1).
In conclusion, the goal of the Christian life is love. The measure of our maturity is our love for God and our love for others. If we fail in our love we have missed what it means to be a Christian.
*PRAYER
Lord, teach me how to love like You. Help me forgive all those that offended me.
*CONFESSION
For God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
NUJ Blacklists Fani-Kayode, Boycotts C’River Govt Events
As a way of getting its pound of flesh from former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode for verbally assaulting the Correspondent of Daily Trust Newspaper, Mr. Eyo Charles, during a press conference last week in Calabar, the Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), has blacklisted the former Minister and also boycotted all Cross River government-organized events.
In a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the State Council, Comrade Victor Udu, Secretary Oka Ibor and the Chairman of the Communique Drafting Committee, Richard Ndoma, and issued at the end of an emergency congress of the union which took place on Thursday evening, with the leadership of all the Chapels in attendance, the Union also proscribed the Government House Press Corps and stopped all illegal press conferences.
The Communique read in part: “Congress condemns the verbal insult and abuse from Femi Fani Kayode and noted that such words could only come out of the lips of a frustrated, immature, bankrupt, irresponsible and unsteady mind and accordingly blacklisted the former Minister of Aviation from all media activities in the State.
“Congress further blacklists the Government of Cross River State from any media coverage by all members of Nigeria Union of Journalist in the State for organizing an illegal press conference thereby creating a platform for Femi Fani Kayode to abuse and insult a journalist, Mr. Eyo Charles of the Daily Trust Newspaper.
“It mandated the State Council to immediately communicate in writing to all media organisations to withdraw their correspondents from Government House and stop them from covering or reporting any activity of the State Government until the issue is resolved. In line with NEC resolution on the proscription of beats, Congress directs the immediate proscription of the illegally operated Cross River State Government House Press Corps.

Crystal Palace Sign Eze From QPR
Premier League side Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Eberechi Eze from Championship club Queens Park Rangers.
The young midfielder signed a five-year deal with the Eagles that will see him remain at Selhurst Park until 2025 after successful medicals.
The Anglo-Nigerian has been with Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium outfit since 2016 following his impressive performances with Millwall‘s youth team.
The midfielder played 104 games for Rangers and last season he scored 14 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions to help the club maintain their Championship status.
On Friday, Eze completed his move to the Selhurst Park outfit and has expressed his delight with the transfer.
“As a football club, I feel like there are great players here and it’s a brilliant opportunity for me to come and be with these players, to link up with them and to really push on,” he told the club website.
Palace chairman Steve Parish also expressed his excitement with the signing of the Anglo-Nigerian and assures the club will help the midfielder’s growth.
“Eberechi is a player whose development we have followed closely. We are delighted he has chosen to sign for us over the other clubs that were interested and we feel that this is the right club for him to continue his development,” Parish said. “With our Academy recently securing Category 1 status, this further illustrates our focus on youth as we look to consolidate and improve upon our position as a Premier League club.”
Eze will link up with Ivory Coast international Wilfried Zaha, Ghana forward Jordan Ayew and Senegal defender Cheikhou Kouyate at Selhurst Park.
The midfielder has featured for England U20 and U21 teams but he is still eligible to play for Nigeria since he has not represented the Three Lions at senior level.
Eze has been a long target for the West Africans and has previously stated he is open to switching his allegiance to Nigeria.
His addition will strengthen the Super Eagles, who finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Thiago Silva Completes Switch To Chelsea On 1 Year Deal
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of veteran centre-back Thiago Silva as the Brazilian defender makes the move to Stamford Bridge after departing Paris Saint-Germain.
Silva’s move to Stamford Bridge comes after his eight-year PSG stay came to an end following the club’s loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.
The 35-year-old, who served as captain in that defeat, departs the French side with a joint-record seven Ligue 1 titles as well as five Coupes de la Ligue and five Coupes de France.
During his time in Paris, Silva made a total of 315 appearances, including 21 this season as PSG won a domestic treble.
Silva, who makes the move on a free transfer, has now joined Chelsea on a one-year deal with the option of extending that deal by one further season.
He becomes Chelsea’s fifth major signing of the window, with Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr already snapped up.
In addition, the club has already completed the signings of Malik Mothersille, Jimi Tauriainen and Xavier Mbuyamba this summer.
Blues director Marina Granovskaia told the club’s official website of landing Silva: “We are delighted to be able to add a player of Thiago Silva’s proven world-class credentials to our squad.
“Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here.
“Thiago will be an excellent fit and we hope he can add some new trophies to his impressive list of honours.”
Before his trophy-laden spell with PSG, Silva emerged as a star with AC Milan during a three-year stint with the club from 2009-12.
He helped Milan claim the 2010-11 Serie A crown, becoming one of the best defenders in the world before joining the Ligue 1 club.
His move to PSG came with a reported fee of €42 million, making him the then second-most expensive defender in history at the time behind Rio Ferdinand.
Internationally, Silva has been a mainstay for Brazil throughout the last decade, earning 89 total caps while scoring seven goals for his country.
Silva has won silver and bronze at the Olympics with Brazil while also claiming the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2019 Copa America crown on home soil.
Additionally, the defender has been a part of three World Cup squads and has also been at the Copa America on three occasions as well.
Chelsea enter the 2020-21 season after finishing fourth in the Premier League in Frank Lampard’s first campaign as manager.
The Blues will open the Premier League season at Brighton on September 14. (Goal)

Ronaldinho Pays $200, 000 In ‘Plea Bargain’ For Freedom
Ronaldinho has been released from house arrest in Paraguay after his detention for holding a forged passport after a local court accepted a plea deal.
In March, the Brazilian and his brother Roberto de Assis Moreira were arrested for entering the country with false passports. Ronaldinho had travelled to Paraguay to promote a campaign for underprivileged children.
They spent a month in jail, where Ronaldinho played in kickabouts and celebrated his 40th anniversary with a BBQ, before a four-month period of house arrest at a luxury hotel in the Paraguayan capital Asuncion. The pair each paid bail of $800,000.
“The precautionary measure of arrest is lifted. There are no more restrictions placed by Paraguayan justice,” said judge Gustavo Amarilla.
The duo were released, but will have to pay $200,000 in damages. Ronaldinho and his brother, who also operates as his manager, always maintained their innocence, but prosecutors did believe Roberto had knowledge the passports were fake.
Ronaldinho now has a criminal record in Paraguay and won’t be allowed to leave Brazil for two years.
Ronaldinho and his brother will return home today, bringing to an end a bizarre five-month ordeal. Brazilians can travel to Paraguay without a passport; an identity card suffices to gain entry.
The episode marks the further demise of a player who once was the world’s best. Ronaldinho retired in 2015 when his career had long been sliding, but in his heyday he helped Brazil win a fifth World Cup in 2002, the country’s last global crown to date.
He also lifted the Champions League with FC Barcelona. In 2005, he won the Ballon d’Or.
