THE EARS THAT HEAR
BIBLE READING: REV. 2:29
"But blessed are your eyes, for they see and your ears, for they hear" Matthew 13:16
The ear(auditory system) is the vital organ for the perception of sound and ensures balance. It is the gateway that receives sound from our immediate environment, transports it to the brain to interpret what was heard through neurons and other structures in the ear that aid hearing. The interpretation of sound by the brain is crucial for the harmonious coordination of the central nervous system. The ear causes balance by making you steady when you walk on earth, if the auditory system fails to provide balance, you will feel like one floating, wobbling, disorientated, confused and also suffer from blurred vision. The size of the ear in the human body does not equate its importance in providing guidance and response to our environment. It is very important that our ear performs its primary role, hence the admonition by Jesus on different occasions - “He that hath ears to hear let him hear(KJV).” Mathew 11:15 and Rev. 2:7.
The primary function of the ear is not limited to physical dimensions alone. Although, the physical organ of hearing is considered of peculiar importance as the main instrument by which man receives information, man also has spiritual ears. Man is made in the image of God, and the Lord is Spirit and communicates to us through our spirit. Spiritual ears, the organ of spiritual perception are even more important than physical ears as they receive guidance and direction from God- “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:27-28(KJV)
The importance of a functional ear, whether physical or spiritual cannot be overemphasized. It is therefore, the duty of every man to ensure that both physical and spiritual ears are functioning in optimal capacity for a successful life. However, if either one of the ears are defective, we will suffer defeat physically or spiritually. If a man is spiritually deaf, that man cannot hear God and he will go astray - “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21(KJV).
The human ear can hear clearly but can however suffer from either of these defects; inability to understand what is heard or inability to retain what is heard. It is possible for a man to hear and not understand the information received, it is also possible to hear and forget what was heard. Therefore, the ear that hears is the one that receives the word, understands and takes corresponding actions of faith based on the Word. In James 1:25, we are admonished to not just hear but to do- "But he who looks carefully into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and faithfully abides by it, not having become a [careless] listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he will be blessed and favored by God in what he does [in his life of obedience](AMP). The responsibility lies on us to sharpen our hearing, physically and spiritually. Do you have ears? If yes, it is your responsibility to hear men and God and be an active doer, not a forgetful hearer.
PRAYER:
Lord, I ask you to remove every wax that has blocked my physical and spiritual ears, preventing me from hearing your word physically and spiritually. I receive grace to be a doer and not just a hearer in Jesus name.

PRAYING FOR PASTORS
BIBLE READING: 1 CHRONICLES 12:1-2, 21-22; 1 SAMUEL 30:1-3
"And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will be qualified to teach others." 2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV).
Let us take a look at 1 Chronicles 12:1-2, 21-22(NIV), "These were the men who came to David at Ziklag, while he was banished from the presence of Saul, son of Kish (they were among the warriors who helped him in battle; they were armed with bows and were able to shoot arrows or to sling stones right-handed and left-handed; they were kinsmen of Saul from the tribe of Benjamin): ...They helped David against raiding bands, for all of them were brave warriors, and they were commanders in his army. Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God." Every vision requires a team to fulfill it. A great dream must be matched with a great dream team, even God has an elite team known as the twenty-four elders. (Rev 4: 4; 5:8).
In our key text today, we saw Apostle Paul writing about the kind of people who will pass on what he taught; men who are able and faithful. Please recall that in 1 Chronicles 12, the kind of men who kept coming to join David's team were from the tribe of Benjamin and the other tribes of Israel, some of these men were raised by David and many came from outside his own fold to submit to him. These men did great exploits to support David's leadership as the 'set man.'
In 1 Samuel 30:1-3(NIV), David and his men reached Ziklag on the third day. Now the Amalekites had raided the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag, and burned it, and had taken captive the women and everyone else seen in it, both young and old. They killed none of them, but carried them off as they went on their way. When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. From this text, we can see why pastors need to be consistently prayed for. The homes of pastors can be marked for attack while they are doing exploits in the field that is one reason why we should surround our pastors with prayers.
Most people do not think pastors need prayers. Moses prayed for three million people yet it was not on record that anybody ever prayed for him. We need to constantly pray for them so that they will be kept from sin and especially sins of the heart like unforgiveness, envy, bitterness, division, pride, deception, etc. 1 Thessolonians 5:25(NKJV) says, Brethren, pray for us. This was the utterance of Apostle Paul. Brothers and sisters let us rise to pray for pastors, they are the ones who eventually automate the systems on which the vision runs. They pay a huge price trying to translate that vision into a reality. We should pray for them to be in alignment with heaven and with vision of the set man.
PRAYER:
Father, I bring all pastors before You, let grace be multiplied on them that their homes be secure from every attack of the enemy and may they walk in your precepts so that their lives and ministries shall bring glory to your Holy Name in Jesus name, Amen!

PRAYING FOR THE NATION (2)
BIBLE READING: 1 CHRONICILES 21:1-3; PSALMS 72:15
I urge, then, first of all that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2: 1-4(NIV).
In wartime, the most important person is the general; enormous responsibility rests on his shoulders. In flying an aircraft, praying for the pilots is more important than praying for all the passengers because if the pilots suddenly go blind, it would take the intervention of God to safely land the aircraft. In our key text, Apostle Paul urges us that praying for those in political authority has great impact on the preaching of the gospel; and also that, good governance is pleasing to God.
Carefully consider, 1 Chronicles 21:1-3, 14; Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel. So David said to Joab and the commanders of the troops."Go and count the Israelites from Beersheba to Dan. Then report back to me so that I may know many there are." But Joab replied, "May the Lord multiply his troops hundred times over. My lord the king, are they not all my lord's subjects? Why does my lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?" ... So the Lord sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead (NIV).
From the above scriptures, Satan orchestrated an attack against Israel, he rather went after the king (president), to make a policy (decision) that was going to plunge the nation into a terrible situation, even when there was a superior argument against the policy. Little did they know that the decision was a high powered satanic plot. It could be seen from here that decisions (policies) of those in political authority do not just come from out of the blues, they are either inspired by God or demonically manipulated. Political leaders can be puppets in the hands of the enemy if we as the Church fail to uphold them in prayer. Some of their decisions may be personal but not private, the results or consequences may derail the nation.
The book of Daniel gives details of how his prayers in Babylon caused a cosmic and angelic warfare that eventually broke the captivity of Israel in that nation that resulted in their release from bondage. Likewise, the book of Nehemiah shows us that the prayer of Nehemiah shifted the heart of the king not only to sponsor a bill that was passed into law to allow the children of Israel to return to their homeland, but also supplied resources for the rebuilding of the wall.
Psalms 72:15 says, Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long (NIV). Men and brethren, may we continually pray for the political leaders of our nation.
ACTION POINT:
Do you passionately pray for the political leaders of your nation? Make commitments to take your place on the watchtower against all sorts of bills and legislations that can harm the peace and prosperity of the nation.
PRAYER POINTS:
Pray for the Ibadan Discipleship Summit starting today that God will use His servant to communicate His will to God's people. Pray that the city and the hearts of men in it will open up for God to have His way.
Pray for the emergence of a mighty army of sons in the southwest region of Nigeria.
