Abia Stakeholders Pass Vote Of No Confidence In Nkole Over Poor Performance
Some stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Arochukwu Local Government Area (LGA) of Abia have passed a vote of no confidence in Rep. Uko Nkole, representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
The stakeholders’ decision was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Umuahia by a former Chief Whip of Arochukwu Legislative Council, Mr Cletus Nwankwo.
The statement said that the vote of no confidence was passed in the lawmaker at a stakeholders’ strategic meeting in Umuahia on Tuesday.
It said that the meeting was attended by the former Secretary to the State Government, Mr Donatus Okorie, a former state legislator and one-time Commissioner for Commerce, Dr Sampson Orji (represented by Mike Onwuchekwa), and two former Chairmen of the council, Messrs Kingsley Ngunu and James Kalu.
Others are a former Speaker of the council’s Legislative Council, Nwabueze Okoro, LGA PDP Chairmen, Messrs Tony Nwankwo and Obinna Nwankwo.
The rest are the Special Adviser to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, Chief Felix Ukpabi, a former lawmaker, Chief Tom Ezikpe, and the party’s Woman Leader in the area, Mrs Ochioha Okereke (Ugoeze), and party chieftain in the area, Mr Isaac Nkole.
The stakeholders hinged their vote of no confidence in Nkole’s alleged docility as well as ineffective representation at the National Assembly (NASS) and anti-party activities.
They said that the lawmaker had not sponsored any bill in his five years in National Assembly.
They also alleged that he had made no visible attempt to attract the attention of the Federal Government and Niger Delta Development Commission to the deplorable Nmuri, Ndi Ebe and Okobo bridges in the area.
The stakeholders further alleged that Nkole had done nothing to address the unemployment problem among the unemployed graduates from Arochukwu, Ututu, Isu and Ihechiowa clans.
They threatened to commence the process of recall against him “if he fails to sit up”.
However, in a swift reaction to the statement, the federal lawmaker dismissed the stakeholders’ action and threat as “cloud without rain.”
According to him, no genuine stakeholders’ meeting can hold without his knowledge as the highest political office holder from the constituency.
He further contended that since the meeting did not have the consent of the council Chairman, Mr Odum Okemini, any decision taken was a nullity.
NAN reports that Okemini also issued a statement in the wake of the stakeholders’ meeting dissociating himself from the gathering.
He described the “so-called stakeholders” at the meeting as “impostors”.
He, along with Nkole, urged members of the public to disregard the action of the “self-acclaimed stakeholders”. (NAN)

Cross River: Amidst Tension, PDP Postpones State Congress
As the battle on who controls the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Cross River state rages uncontrollably, the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has postponed the State Congress which was billed for Saturday, August 8, 2020.
Gov Ben Ayade and some National Assembly members from the state are at daggers drawn. The bone of contention is mainly who should be the State Chairman of the party. While the Governor is believed to support Alphonsus Eba as Chairman, some National Assembly members are said to prefer the former national publicity secretary, Venatius Ikem.
Two different lists of cleared candidates and delegates had been in circulation since Thursday to prove the depth of controversy surrounding the exercise. While the first list has names of three candidates including Venatius Ikem, Alphonsus Eba and Frank Adah who were said to have been cleared to contest for the chairmanship seat, the second list has the name of Alphonsus Eba as a sole cleared candidate.
Surprisingly, both lists were signed by the party national organising secretary, Col Austin Akobundu (rted), with the emblem of the party visibly stamped.
As the political atmosphere became charged with both camps fully ready for a showdown, the police warned on Saturday morning against breakdown of law and order, saying it would deal with anyone who would foment trouble.
The uncertainty surrounding the State congress may have forced the PDP national leadership to postpone the election. A press statement signed by the national publicity secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, said “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed the State Congress in Cross River State by one week.
“The NWC, after due consultations and in exercise of its powers under the PDP constitution, postponed the Cross River State Congress from the earlier scheduled date of Saturday, August 8, 2020 to Saturday, August 15, 2020. The postponement is sequel to demands of exigencies of party administration.
“All critical stakeholders, elders, leaders as well as teeming members and supporters of our great party, particularly in Cross River State, are to be guided accordingly.”ones State Congress

You Have No Seats To Occupy In Edo Assembly, Speaker Tells 14 Members-Elect
The Speaker, Edo Assembly, Francis Okiye, says the 14 members-elect not yet inaugurated, no longer have seats to occupy in the assembly, following the declaration of their seats as vacant.
Okiye who made the assertion during the assembly’s Tuesday plenary in Benin, called on the public to disregard the 14 elected lawmakers whom he said were “parading themselves as members of the Edo assembly.”
According to him, the affected members-elect have lost their status and rights, following their refusal to be inaugurated.
The speaker said that their purported inauguration in private residence was illegal.
He named the members as Victor Edoror (Esan Central Constituency), Washington Osifo (Uhumwode), Vincent Uwadiae (Ovia North East), Kingsley Ugabi (Etsako East) and Michael Ohio-Ezomo (Owan West).
Others were Sunday Aghedo (Ovia South West), Chris Okaeben (Oredo West), Crosby Eribo (Egor), Aliyu Oshiomhole (Etsako West 11) and Oshomah Ahmed (Etsako Central).
Also listed were Ganiyu Audu (Etsako West 1), Ugiagbe Dumez (Ovia North East 1) Uyi Ekhosuehi (Oredo East) and Eric Okaka (Owan East).
He said: “The Governor, following the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, issued a proclamation for the first session of the assembly on June 14, 2019.
“The Clerk of the House issued a notice to all members-elect to attend the first session on June 17, 2019 and the house was duly convened and inaugurated.
“But the above-mentioned members refused to present their certificates of return and also refused to present themselves at any sitting of the house to subscribe to the oath of office as members.”
The speaker further said that after several sittings by the house since June 17, 2019, Uyi Ekhosuehi (Oredo East ) and Eric Okaka (Owan East) deliberately stayed away from the sittings of the ssembly.
He said that the said members-elect, instead of presenting themselves to subscribe to the oath of office, filed a suit at the Edo High Court, challenging the inauguration of the house.
Okiye added: “Some members of this house approached the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to stop the unconstitutional threat of the National Assembly to take over the house.
“The court restrained the governor from issuing another proclamation and ruled that the house was constitutionally constituted to carry out its duties.
“Following the continued absence of the members-elect, their seats were declared vacant on December 4, 2019.
“The members-elect again approached the Federal High sittings in Abuja, challenging the resolution of the house declaring their seats vacant.
“It is therefore shocking to hear that they converged in a private residenc and purportedly inaugurated themselves as members of the Edo House of assembly.” (NAN)
