  • Nigeria Bids Final Farewell to Former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura

    Daura, Katsina State — July 15, 2025
It was a solemn day in Daura, Katsina State, as Nigeria laid former President Muhammadu Buhari to rest. The 81-year-old ex-leader passed away on Saturday, July 13, after a brief illness, sparking an outpouring of emotion across the country.

His burial took place Monday afternoon in his hometown, surrounded by family, political allies, and dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond. In a fitting tribute, Buhari was given full military honors—including a 21-gun salute and a ceremonial guard—as part of the state funeral.

    A Nation Mourns

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who succeeded Buhari in 2023, led the delegation of officials at the burial. Also in attendance were state governors, National Assembly members, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and representatives from neighboring countries.

President Tinubu described Buhari as “a disciplined leader who loved Nigeria deeply,” adding that his legacy would live on in the hearts of many. The federal government has declared a seven-day national mourning period, during which all national flags will be flown at half-mast.

    From Soldier to Statesman

Buhari's life was nothing short of remarkable. From his early days in the military to leading the country as a military ruler in the 1980s, and then again as a two-term civilian president from 2015 to 2023, Buhari was a central figure in Nigeria's political story.

His presidency was marked by a strong anti-corruption campaign, a focus on infrastructure, and sometimes-controversial economic decisions. While he was widely respected for his discipline and frugal lifestyle, many Nigerians also criticized him for rising insecurity and economic challenges during his time in office.

    Tributes from Near and Far

Reactions to Buhari’s passing have come from all corners. Social media has been flooded with messages of condolence, with hashtags like #RIPBuhari and #DauraStrongman trending throughout the weekend.

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo called him “a man of principle,” while other public figures—including critics like Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka—offered their prayers and respects.

    A Moment for Reflection

Buhari’s passing has stirred reflection among Nigerians, prompting conversations about his achievements, his challenges, and the direction of the country moving forward. Love him or not, many agree: Buhari left a mark on Nigeria’s political landscape that won’t soon be forgotten.

His family has asked for privacy as they mourn, but a national remembrance event is expected to be announced in the coming days.

  • “We Just Wanted a Better Life” 104 Nigerians Return from Algeria After Rough Journey Abroad

For 104 Nigerians, Sunday night marked more than just a flight home , it was a second chance at life.

After battling harsh conditions, fear, and broken promises in Algeria, these returnees including 80 men, 14 women, and 10 children finally landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, weary but relieved.

Their stories are similar: dreams of greener pastures across the border, only to face unpaid jobs, cramped shelters, detention, and constant fear of deportation. Some were stranded for months. Others hadn’t spoken to their families in over a year.

    > “I just wanted to work and send money home. I never imagined it would be like this,” one returnee said with tears in his eyes.

Thanks to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the group was brought home under a voluntary return program that helps stranded migrants escape unsafe conditions abroad.

They were welcomed with medical care, food, and temporary shelter—but the bigger journey is just beginning: rebuilding their lives from the ground up.

Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA’s Lagos coordinator, called it a “timely rescue” and urged others planning to migrate to avoid dangerous backdoor routes and seek legal, informed options.

    > “They left chasing dreams but returned chasing survival,” he said. “Now it’s time to help them find new hope here at home.”

With over 70 million Nigerians already living in poverty, the government says it’s working on reintegration programs and job support to help returnees restart.

For these 104 Nigerians, it’s not just about coming back ;it’s about starting over.

  • “Blood in Benue”: 150 Killed in Midnight Horror — Where Is Nigeria’s Conscience??

Benue is bleeding and the nation can’t keep silent.

In a heart-wrenching midnight massacre, suspected armed herdsmen stormed the peaceful village of Yelewata, Benue State, leaving behind ashes, tears, and more than 150 dead bodies, including children who had nowhere to run.

They came under the cover of darkness. In minutes, homes were set on fire. A local market, where many families had taken refuge, turned into a death trap. Entire households were wiped out. Survivors say the gunmen moved “like demons” shooting, burning, destroying.

    > “They didn’t spare even toddlers. We begged. We ran. But death was faster,” a survivor whispered, still covered in ash and blood.

This isn’t a movie. This is Nigeria today.

    Not Just an Attack—A Slaughter

This is one of the deadliest attacks in Nigeria this year, and yet again, Benue is left asking: Where is the protection? Where is the justice? President Tinubu has condemned the killings and promised to visit but the people have heard it all before.

    > “We don’t need condolences—we need safety,” cried a community elder.
“Our lands are soaked in blood, and Abuja is giving speeches.”

    Thousands Displaced. Help Still Far.

With houses burnt, crops destroyed, and hundreds displaced, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has moved in—but it’s not enough. Survivors are sleeping in the open, mourning with empty stomachs and shattered hope.

Why This Story Must Not Die

This is bigger than Benue. This is a mirror of the growing insecurity tearing Nigeria apart.

If this could happen to them—it could happen to any of us.

  • Too Much Seasoning, Too Little Health: The Silent Danger in Your Kitchen”

Let’s talk about something sitting quietly in almost every Nigerian kitchen seasoning cubes.

You know them well. The “flavour masters.” The small but mighty cubes that transform a basic pot of soup into something your neighbours will smell three compounds away. But here’s the not-so-sweet truth: those little blocks of magic could be slowly damaging your health, one delicious bite at a time.

    1. Seasoning Cubes Are Sodium Bombs in Disguise

Seasoning cubes are more than just spices. They’re loaded with salt (sodium) and MSG (monosodium glutamate). Yes, they taste amazing, but too much sodium can silently harm your heart and kidneys.

Tired all the time? Swollen feet? High blood pressure at a young age? Your seasoning habit could be one of the hidden culprits.

    2. “But I Don’t Even Add Salt!” That Doesn’t Mean You’re Safe

This is where most people miss it.

You don’t need to sprinkle salt for your sodium levels to be too high. Just one or two cubes per meal might already exceed the recommended daily limit. And when you combine that with salty snacks, suya, white bread, and processed foods… your body is overloaded before you even realize it.

    3. Your Kidneys Are Not Indestructible

Your kidneys work hard every day to filter your blood and manage your body’s salt balance. But constantly forcing them to process excess sodium? That’s like making them work overtime every single day with no rest. Over time, fatigue, swelling, and even kidney failure can sneak in.

And once those symptoms show up, treatment is often expensive and stressful.

    4. MSG Reactions Are Real — Even if You Haven’t Noticed Yet

Some people are sensitive to MSG and don’t even realize it. It can cause headaches, sweating, tingling, a fast heartbeat, anxiety, or a general “off” feeling after eating.

So if you’ve ever finished a tasty meal and felt strangely uncomfortable afterward… it might be your body quietly protesting.

    5. How to Keep Your Food Tasty and Safe

Don’t worry no one’s asking you to eat bland meals. There are plenty of ways to keep your food rich and flavourful without overloading on cubes:

Use real ingredients: onions, garlic, ginger, local herbs, curry, thyme, scent leaf, turmeric, uziza… all packed with natural flavour.
Cut down gradually: Instead of 3 cubes, try 1. Your taste buds will adjust over time.
Taste first, cube later: Most times, the food is already well-seasoned.
Educate with love: Help others around you (mama, aunty, house help) understand this. It’s not criticism, it’s care.

Final Word: Let Your Food Heal, Not Harm

You deserve to enjoy delicious meals — but not at the cost of your health.
That sweet stew, that rich jollof, that smoky native soup — let it be both enjoyable and safe.

Because life is already hard enough — your food shouldn’t be what slowly breaks you down.

When you’re in labor, your body goes into full-on baby eviction mode. The uterus contracts with incredible force, pushing the baby down—and in the process, putting major pressure on the rectum. If there’s anything left in there, it’s coming out.

    But there’s more:

The same muscles you use to push out a baby are the ones you use to poop. So when the doctor says, “Push like you're having a bowel movement,” that’s because… well, you kind of are.

Hormones like prostaglandins help soften the cervix, but they also loosen the bowels, making it more likely you’ll go before or during labor.

Your body is all about efficiency—it wants to clear out the way so the baby can slide through without obstacles.

    Can You Avoid It?

Honestly? Not really. But you can minimize the chances by eating fiber-rich foods, staying hydrated, and having regular bowel movements in the days leading up to labor. Some hospitals even offer enemas, but they’re not a must.

    Do Doctors Care?

Nope. Not at all. Nurses and doctors see this every day, and they clean it up so fast you probably won’t even notice. If anything, pooping during labor is a good sign—it means you’re pushing correctly!

    Final Thoughts: Let It Go!

Labor is not the time to worry about embarrassment. Your body knows what it’s doing, and trust me, the only thing anyone will remember is the moment your baby arrives. So if it happens? Shrug it off—your baby certainly won’t care!
