THE BOY WHO WALKED ALONE (Pt. 1) As a young boy, I was ambitious, full of dreams, and had grand visions of my future. I never held back when it came to dreaming big. I had vision boards and mental pictures of the life I wanted to live, and they excited me. These dreams filled me with zeal, enthusiasm, and energy, pushing me to launch out after completing my higher education. I never considered getting a job. Truthfully, with the kind of future I envisioned, a job wouldn’t be enough to fund it. I just had to become a CEO, own a company, and do business so I could have both financial and time freedom. So, in 2012, after my NYSC, I took the leap. But to cut a long story short, the next 10 years of my life turned out to be the most depressing, traumatic, and disappointing years I had ever experienced. I failed at EVERYTHING I tried. Within that period, I ventured into seven different businesses—and had NOTHING tangible to show for it. Many times, I woke up wishing I wasn’t alive. I lost hope, and my faith—in myself and in God—was under constant attack. It felt like the world was against me. Where were all the pictures and dreams I had as a child? What happened to the lifestyle I had envisioned? By now, I should have had my own house, a thriving business, and a family. So why was I still squatting—with someone who was also a squatter? I was confused. I had completely lost touch with myself, the world, and everyone around me. I was merely a shadow of the person I used to be. I spent over six of those ten years in deep frustration and despair. Then, in 2020, I met a young man—way younger than me—who was planning his wedding, owned a car and a house, and was earning six figures monthly. He was living the life I had envisioned for myself at his age. With all humility, I approached him and asked questions. Since then, I have worked with him, and though I am not yet where I want to be, I am far from where I used to be. For the first time, I was able to travel out of the country for vacation in 2022. Today, I have my own house, I am married with two kids, and I am doing great things. Most importantly, I have regained my belief in my visions and dreams. Now, I dare to do GREAT things. My belief is back. My faith is back. But what changed? What happened??? Why the drastic transformation in just two years? How did I achieve in three years what I couldn’t achieve in ten? Some days ago, I had posted that I was trying out a new traffic hack. Well, this is how it's going so far. The goal is to see how much organic traffic I can drive from other social media platforms to grow YuSocial. If you have followed me here long enough, you will understand why I'm doing this. If this is your first encounter with me, here's why I'm doing this. Social media is like a marketplace, and as such, we don't literally always have access to our followers. Based on this understanding, it is wisdom to use social media to search for clients and deliberately move them off the platform to your website where you have better control. Don't fall into the trap to think you will always have access to your social media accounts or that you can control its algorithm. ...anyway, back to my traffic hack. Client asked for a website, we delivered. Client has spent extra resources branding and adding website link on different materials (T-Shirts, Books etc) Domain is about to expire, client is notified with a follow-up call (apart from our automated notification emails). Client keeps dulling until his domain and hosting expires, grace period elapses, the domain is thrown back into the market and someone who has been eyeing that domain name registers it and sets up his business on the domain. Client has called saying that customers are complaining they don't know if it is their eye that is paining them or if they didn't get the correct website link. Worse still, client says there's a matter in court and his evidence is in the correspondence in his domain email that has just been lost; that is all he needs to prove his case. Client is asking me what he should do. Me: Unfortunately, I cannot help you at this point. In all my years of building websites, I have encountered a couple of business owners who feel they are doing you a favour when they renew their website or even keep it well maintained to avoid breakdown and loss of business. Well, experience can be a nasty teacher at times and I pray you don't experience this. If you need help setting up your website, you should be talking to us.
