C’River Govt Immortalises Sen Oko, PDP Plans Replacement.

The government of Cross River state has renamed its Women Development Centre in Calabar after the late Senator Rose Oko who died on March 23, this year.

A statement issued by Christian Ita, special adviser on media and publicity to Governor Ben Ayade, said the governor had approved the renaming.


To mark the renaming, a bust was veiled in memory of the late senator at the centre on Monday after a valedictory service at the State Executive Council chambers.



Meanwhile, her party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has raised a campaign council to mobilise support for its candidate, Dr Stephen Odey, for the October 31 Northern Senatorial district by-election.

The six-member campaign council is headed by Hon Legor Idagbo, member representing Obudu/Obanlikwu/ Bekwarra federal constituency.

The election is mainly between PDP’s Odey and Barr Joe Agi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a chat, Odey said he would build on the late Senator Oko’s legacy and, therefore, solicited support to ensure the PDP emerged victorious to commemorate a woman who, he said, stood stoutly for democracy.
