Fear Grip Asaba-Ase Residents As Flood Takes Over Access Road

Residents of Asaba-Ase, Ndokwa East local government area of Delta state, are on the verge of being sacked as flood, last weekend, took over roads leading to the community.

Orient Daily gathered that most of the residents of the community, including traders from different parts of the state, were in the community market when the ravaging flood cut-off the access road.

President-General of Isoko Development Union, High Chief Iduh Amadhe, who visited Ekregbesi community in Uzere Kingdom, Isoko South local government area, where the ravaging flood cut the road, subjecting people and vehicles to life threatening danger, said urgent intervention must be taken to rescue the people, who are trapped.

Amadhe also appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, to urgently embark on rescue mission to save the people and vehicles trapped by the flood.

He expressed surprise at the sudden cut-off of the road; noting that people from Isoko, Urhobo, Kwale and Ijaw areas were at the market when the flood suddenly cut across the road.

Amadhe added that if urgent steps were not taken, over 40 vehicles might remain at the other side of the road till November.

Reacting to the incident, Miss Florence Godspower, a trader from Igbide, said she passed through the road in the morning with her goods to the market, but suddenly, they were informed that the road has been cut by the ravaging flood, which, according to her, was just by the side of the road when she passed.

She said to cross one person across the flooded portion of the road, a commuter would spend N500; while crossing speed boat costs N2,000 each.
