THE POWER OF A REMNANT

BIBLE READING: 2 CHRONICLES 7

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.2 Chro. 7:14

Nations are God’s handiwork. God is the one who creates nations through men. An example is the nation of Israel God made through the man Abraham. He is the one who also determines and rules over their affairs according to the scriptures in Acts 17:26 “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings”.

God has the power to determine the destiny of nations in line with His predetermined purpose for them. He is not just the God of individuals but also the God of nations. The Bible says nations will also be judged at the end of time “And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats” Matt 25:32

When nations drift from God and fall short of His glory just like humans, they begin to experience hardship, crisis and several disasters; there are circumstances when these defy political solutions. What kind of economic policy will solve a national crisis permitted by God. We have seen examples of when Israel rebelled against God and He sends a famine into the land or cause them to be taken captive by a foreign nation.

The major key God uses in intervening in the crisis of nations is a group of people called the remnant. These are people who have refused to get involved in the issues defiling the land but will take responsibility for it by seeking the face of God in deep humility and repentance.

Sin brings reproach to a person and nation. The only thing that can lift reproach brought by sin is repentance and intercession. God is looking for men who will stand in the gap for the iniquities and abominations being committed in Nigeria. The best way to commemorate the independence of our nation is to go before God and cry out to Him for mercy over the land like Daniel did.

ACTION POINT:
Go before God in humility and repentance for your own sins, as well as that of Nigeria and her leadership.
