Wisconsin State Asks Trump To Pay $9.7 Million As Charges For A Recount

President Donald Trump will have to pay $7.9 million if he wants a statewide recount of unofficial results in Wisconsin showing him losing to Democrat Joe Biden by about 20,500 votes.

That is four times higher than what the recount cost four years ago, a cost increase that elections officials said was driven by expenses related to conducting a recount during the coronavirus pandemic.

Counties had until Tuesday to certify the election results. Assuming the last county canvass isn't filed until Tuesday as expected, Trump would then have until 5 p.m. on Wednesday to request the recount. The recount could begin as soon as Thursday and be done no later than Dec. 1.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission on Monday released the recount timeline and cost estimate, which was based on costs submitted by the 72 counties.

'We still have not received any indication that there will or will not be a recount,' said Meagan Wolfe, the state's chief election official. 'But we want Wisconsin's voters to know we are ready.'

Trump has made unfounded claims of voting irregularities and fraud, even though Wisconsin elections officials have said there were no irregularities or widespread problems reported.

Separately Monday, three voters who filed a federal lawsuit last week seeking to exclude some ballots in Milwaukee, Dane and Menominee counties withdraw their lawsuit.

Attorney James Bopp said he could not say why because of attorney-client privilege. The voters had alleged widespread fraud in absentee balloting.

Trump has been raising money off the expected recount and has indicated that he will move ahead with it, even though Wisconsin's 10 electoral votes would not be enough to change the outcome of the race.

Trump's Wisconsin campaign spokeswoman Anna Kelly did not immediately return a message seeking comment on the estimated cost.

Recounts are not automatic under Wisconsin law. But any losing candidate who is within 1 point of the winner can request one.

Trump lost by about six-tenths of a point, based on unofficial results. Candidates must pay for recounts if they are more than 0.25 points behind the winner.

As of midday Monday, 68 of 72 counties had completed certification of the vote. Those results, which include provisional ballots that were counted after Election Day, show that Biden picked up 122 votes and Trump gained 107 statewide so far. The net gain was 15 for Biden.

Ugwuanyi: No Going Back On Rural Development In Enugu State

…Lays foundation for Amenity Hospital complex at General Hospital Ogrute, Igbo-Eze North LGA

*No significant project has taken place in the health facility since 1956 until governor’s intervention – CMD

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Monday, laid the foundation for the construction of Amenity Hospital complex, located at the General Hospital Ogrute, Enugu Ezike, in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, declaring that there is no going back in his administration’s resolve to continue vigorous pursuit of its rural development agenda in the state.

Gov. Ugwuanyi who disclosed that a lot of development projects are being carried out in the rural communities by his administration, especially in the areas of health, infrastructure, education, among others, to uplift the living standard of rural dwellers, stressed that “our people in the rural areas have suffered enough”.

The governor therefore maintained that “rural development continues”, adding that his administration will leave no stone unturned to ameliorate the sufferings of the people of the state, who are largely residing in the rural areas.

He therefore revealed that similar healthcare projects including the Type-3 Primary Healthcare Centres, are in so many communities and villages of the state

In his brief presentation, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, explained that the Amenity Hospital complex, a storey building comprising a ground floor and upper floor with 40 wards and specialized wards for patients with complications, is the first of its kind in Enugu State.

It would be recalled that Gov. Ugwuanyi a few months ago, paid an unscheduled visit to the General Hospital Ogrute, to assess the state of the health facility which was founded in 1956.

The governor, after inspecting the dilapidated facilities in the hospital, expressed dissatisfaction with what he saw on ground and directed the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to commence the evaluation of the facility with a view to rehabilitating it to serve the public better. He also directed the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to restore power to the hospital.

Consequently, the hospital’s access/internal road and the perimeter fence have been constructed while the construction of a Cottage Hospital with Isolation facilities has reached an advanced stage.

Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the Amenity Hospital complex, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Cyril Nnadi, the Chairman of Igbo-Eze North LGA, Hon. Engr. Ejike Itodo, the lawmakers, the traditional rulers, and other speakers, thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for his administration’s massive intervention in the General Hospital as well as other projects in the rural communities of the council area and beyond.

Presenting a brief history of the General Hospital Ogrute, the CMD, Dr. Nnadi, pointed out that ever since the hospital was founded in 1956, “there has not been any significant project that has been done here, until about three months ago, when His Excellency came here and saw the state of the hospital”.

According to him, “it was in such a bad shape that one can’t even drive into this hospital. But after the governor’s visit; in fact within a twinkle of an eye, we can see everything being transformed; the road, the fence, the borehole, and there is a Cottage Hospital with Isolation facilities being constructed here at the moment, which is almost completed. In fact it is like a dream come true.

“The state government is about to construct a special diagnostic laboratory for this General Hospital. So, our people are very happy and grateful to our governor and we say thank you”.

Also present at the event were the Deputy Chief Whip of Enugu State House of Assembly and member representing Igbo-Eze North 1 Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ethel Ugwuanyi, the member representing Igbo-Eze North 11 Constituency, Hon. Innocent Ugwu; Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof. Malachy Okwueze; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, his Rural Development counterpart, Hon. Prince Emeka Mamah, the Special Adviser to the Governor on PDI, Mrs. MaryRose Obiageli Abba, and other Special Advisers to Governor, Rt. Hon. Matthew Ugwueze and Hon. Okechukwu Kentus Eze, among others.

Enugu State is in the hands of God!

Umahi's Defection: Chika Nwoba Resigns As Ebonyi State APC Publicity Secretary

I thank the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its stakeholders for finding me worthy of election into office as its publicity secretary in Ebonyi State, May, 2018 at the age 27.

On assumption of office, I brought in the best of my media and publicity abilities to bear, selling the party and its programmes, principles and ideology to the Ebonyi people without any kind of financial commitment from the party till this day. For me, it's an effort towards strengthening our party to face the exigencies of democracy and realities surrounding the 2019 elections and beyond.

I thank God and the people of Ebonyi State -home and in the diaspora, for sticking through to the times I reigned as the APC spokesman in Ebonyi state.

For obvious reasons, all of which are known to me and God, I hereby resign my office as the State Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ebonyi State, today, 16th of November, 2020.

Yours sincerely,
Nwoba Chika Nwoba.

9 Reasons Why You Should Rely Less On Your Phone

why it might not make sense to completely ditch your phone but why you should learn to make it a much smaller part of your life.

This summer, on a drive out to the beach for the weekend, my phone broke. For a minute I panicked, but then I thought about it for a second. Historically, I would classify myself as a moderate user of the iPhone. I'm not glued to it all day, but I use it regularly. That being said, in the weeks leading up to my phone breaking, I was extra busy with work (and life) and really ramped up my cell phone usage, to the point that I was sitting there just refreshing my email and other apps. For me, this was a problem that seemed to impact my mind and body in a negative way. I thought maybe the universe was trying to tell me something. With that, I embarked on a weekend without my iphone. I enjoyed it so much that it turned into a few days, then a week, and then two weeks. Here are nine things I noticed when I spent 14 days without a phone:

More from Marie Claire
Marion Cotillard | French Girl Beauty

1. I was more mindful in all aspects of my life. Mindfulness is a buzz word in the holistic health world. Basically, it means that you should be more present. It's quite difficult to be present when you're constantly looking at your phone for that text, email or Instagram update. Whether it was while riding the subway, eating dinner or talking to a friend, the phone wasn't there, so I was more engaged in what was going on around me. Next time you go to dinner, have everyone stack their phones in the middle of the table. The first person to touch the phone has to pay for dinner.

2. Conversations were more meaningful. Whether it was a conversation with my wife, a friend or a person at the store, we made a different kind of connection. When I needed to make a call, I would do so from my computer, using Skype, which meant I was in a quiet spot and was sitting down specifically to talk to that person, not to talk and walk or talk and do other things at the same time.

3. I slept better, for three reasons. One, light (such as the kind emitted from electronic devices like a cell phone) can suppress melatonin production and ramp up your body's stress response, which means that you won't sleep as deeply. Two, emails can be stressful; an email from your boss right before you go to bed can trigger a racing mind that will keep you up or even wake you. Three, cell phones and other electronic devices emit electromagnetic fields (EMF) and they are not "Unbelievable" (like the '80s band). Try keeping your cell phone in another room and/or unplugging all electronic devices in your bedroom. Chances are you will sleep better.

4. I noticed a significant boost in my athletic performance and recovery. I should have tested my testosterone levels before and after but I suspect there was a measurable increase. Many guys have heard that they should avoid carrying their phone in their front pocket as studies have shown that this can decrease sperm count. I would take it a step further and keep your phone as far away from your body as possible. This goes for ladies as well; we all have the same hormones, just in different ratios.

5. I was more creative. I normally carry a small notebook around to jot down ideas. During those two weeks, the ideas were on overdrive. When you are constantly bombarding your mind with content, whether it is in the form of emails, text messages or Facebook updates, there is no room to create. A quiet mind is a powerful thing.

6. My stress levels went down. We live in a stressful world and I live in one of the most high-energy, high-stress cities in the world: NYC. No cell phone equals a major reduction in stress for many of the reasons I have discussed throughout.

7. My eyes hurt less. We all know the feeling when we've spent too much time at a computer and our eyes, head and neck hurt. A smart phone is the same, just with a smaller screen that requires you to look down to see what's going on. This stresses your eyes and neck and can cause serious postural imbalances.

8. I have always been sensitive to cell phone frequencies. If someone puts a cell phone near me and I'm not looking, I can always tell. That being said, it became even more noticeable after being away from direct contact for a while. Consider getting a device to protect you from EMF frequencies.

9. When I made plans, I had to keep them—there was no adjusting on the fly. It was refreshing to tell my friend I would meet him at a specific place and time and that was it. There was one little snafu that involved meeting a friend at the beach for a surf. The waves were subpar and I wanted to alert him not to come so I used a pay phone (which wasn't easy to find), but this made for an exciting day and a good story.

So, after two weeks I finally decided to get a phone, as it can be difficult to run a business without one. But I have made a few changes. One, airplane mode is my best friend. I keep my phone on airplane mode most of the day and check in periodically. Two, I removed Facebook and email from my phone, which means I have a few less things to refresh. I am at a computer enough that I can always be reached by email. Instagram is still there, as that was a tough one to give up. I'm not saying you should do the same, but at least give it a try.
