UK petrol car ban threatens Nigeria’s oil sales
Except the country finds new buyers, the plan to ban petrol and diesel vehicle sales by the United Kingdom government will threaten Nigeria market share of crude oil.
UK imports Nigeria’s crude oil, which is a major revenue earner for the country.
Imports from OPEC countries, especially from Algeria and Nigeria, reportedly stood at 22 per cent of the UK’s crude import in 2018.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Wednesday had announced that new cars and vans powered wholly by petrol and diesel would not be sold in the UK from 2030
As reported by BBC, Boris said the move wad part of a green industrial revolution to tackle climate change and create jobs in industries such as nuclear energy.
But some hybrids would still be allowed, he confirmed.
It is part of what Mr Johnson calls a “green industrial revolution” to tackle climate change and create jobs in industries such as nuclear energy.
Critics say the £4bn allocated to implement the 10-point plan is far too small for the scale of the challenge.
The total amount of new money announced in the package is a 25th of the projected £100bn cost of high-speed rail, HS2.
As of November 2, the price of Brent crude dropped by 3.43 per cent to $36.64 per barrel after some European countries imposed another round of lockdown to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Lekki Shootings: CNN To Lai Mohammed, 'You Didn't Provide Any Evidence'
Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed was called out again by CNN in their newsroom program on the morning of today November 20, over threats of sanction.
The American News agency which stated that it is standing by its report on the Lekki toll gate, stressed that Lai Mohammed did not provide any evidence to back his allegation of them being "irresponsible" with their report which he claimed was "one-dimensional and lacking in balance."
Recall that Mr. Mohammed who also insisted that military only fired empty bullet on protesters at Lekki toll gate, also queried Dj Switch on who she is allegedly fronting for.
Reiterating that the Nigerian army and Lagos government refused to comment on their findings, CNN added that their report was based on testimonies from dozens of witnesses, photos geolocated by CNN which according to them painted a picture of how "members of the Nigerian army and the police shot at the crowd, killing at least one person and wounding dozens"
CNN also disclosed that they verified footage obtained from witnesses and protesters by using time stamp and data from the video files.

EndSARS: 57 Civilians, 37 Policemen, 6 Soldiers Killed - Lai Mohammed
The Federal Government says 57 civilians, 37 policemen, and six Soldiers were killed all over the country during the #endsars crisis.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at a media briefing on the EndSARS protest and its aftermath.
He also said that 196 policemen were injured; 164 police vehicles destroyed and 134 police stations were razed.
The minister said the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Immigration Service all lost infrastructures, equipment and other valuables to attacks by hoodlums during the crisis.
He said eight medium Security custodial centres in six states (Edo, Lagos, Abia, Delta, Ondo and Ebonyi) were attacked, with 1,957 inmates set free and 31 members of staff injured.
The minister said that in the orgy of violence, 269 private/corporate facilities were burnt, looted or vandalised, 243 government facilities burnt and vandalised and 81 government warehouses looted
He frowned at the position of some human rights organisations and media houses which continued to dwell on“ the bodiless and bloodless ‘massacre’ at Lekki Toll Gate’’. They became suspicious after they simply ignored the brutal killing and maiming of security agents during the crisis.
“They did not see anything wrong in the public and private properties that were burnt or looted, neither did they see anything wrong in the fact that some of the businesses that were looted belonged to struggling young men and women. All they could see in their biased view of the whole situation was a hoax massacre,’’ he said.
Mohammed said the federal government is satisfied with the role played by the security agencies, especially the military and the police, all through the EndSARS crisis. He stressed that the security agents were professional and measured in their response.
“Even when their lives were at stake, they exercised uncommon restraint.Their professionalism and measured response saved many lives and properties.
“For example, despite arresting hordes of looters during the violence in Lagos, the army treated them humanely and even counseled them before handing them over to the police.
“The same cannot be said of those who unleashed mayhem on the security agents, killing and maiming them, sometimes in such a barbaric manner that is unprecedented in these parts,’’ he said
Mohammed said it is depressing and demoralising to continue to vilify men and women in uniform, who themselves were victims of senseless violence unleashed by hoodlums.
He said the government will not accept a situation in which some human rights bodies and jaundiced media organisations will continue to harass the security agencies over their roles during the crisis.
The Heads of all information agencies under the ministry of information and culture including the Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Buki Ponle were at the media briefing.

They went after them and made sure the woman got her purse back.
Sharing photos of officers handing the woman's purse back to her, the RRS tweeted:

Gradually they followed the bike to her destination then handed it over to her. She confirmed the sum of N115,000 and a Tecno phone inside the purse were all intact. #TheGoodGuys"
PAN Faults FG's Plan To Reduce Import Duty On Vehicles
Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) Limited has faulted Federal Government’s plan to reduce import duties and taxes for tractors, buses, and passenger vehicles, noting that it would serve as a disincentive to Nigerian automobile plants and increase unemployment.
Chairman of PAN Nigeria, Hon. Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, who stated this in Kaduna on Thursday, urged the Federal Government to quickly reverse the plan, which aimed at boosting the economy in the wake of Covid-19 and other economic challenges, noting that such a policy would create unemployment problems.
He warned that such policy would further harm the ailing automobile industry and the companies involved in accessories, as well as debilitate the local contents and the steel and petrochemical industries, which are to serve the local automobile plants, that President Muhammadu Buhari is doing everything to revive.
He added, “We got very disturbing information by the media aide to the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that Federal Government is slashing down import duties and other taxes on tractors, buses, and passenger vehicles. This is of concern to us on behalf of other automobile plants, as the leading automobile plant in Nigeria.
“Federal Government should take a look at the policy and reverse it for the betterment of Nigerians. Such policy somersault is injurious to the survival and development of the automobile industry, instead of creating employment opportunities, it would create employment problems due to lower activities by automobile plants.
“What informed the position of the government is to cushion the socio-economic problems of Nigeria but it should not be addressed on ad-hoc basis measure. Tackling the socio-economic problem of Nigeria should be better done in a more sustainable and permanent way. If you create employment opportunities for the citizenry it is a more effective and better way of dealing with it.
“Nesbitt Investment Nigeria Limited recently acquired PAN with a plan to inject $150 million within three years. But with such a policy in place how will PAN survive? And what will be the encouragement for Nesbitt Investment to inject such money when the corridor of importation is wide open and the automobile companies will not be able to compete.
“We are calling on the Federal Government to reverse the policy. The government should resuscitate the steel and petrochemical industries which it has been struggling to do. We are doing our best to migrate from assembling plant to a manufacturing company, which is all-encompassing. But if you open the corridor of importation that would serve as a disincentive to the automobile industry.
“No automobile plant does CKD (Complete Knockdown) because of the policy on the ground, but our plan is to migrate from SKD (Semi Knockdown) to CKD. What encouraged Nesbitt Investment to acquire PAN from AMCON (Asset Management Company of Nigeria) is the business environment, the policy of President Buhari administration which before now was encouraging.”
