Okocha Reveals Players Rohr Needs To Succeed With Super Eagles
Former Nigeria captain, Jay-Jay Okocha, has said the national team needs natural offensive midfielders to succeed.
The three-time African champions have not found an attacking midfielder in the mould of Okocha, since the 47-year-old retired in 2006.
The Super Eagles have used John Obi Mikel, Joel Obi, Alex Iwobi and recently Joe Aribo in the position, but they struggled to live up to expectations.
Okocha, who won 73 caps for Nigeria, has advised head coach Gernot Rohr, on how Nigeria can enjoy better performances in their subsequent games.
“What the Eagles need now are natural midfielders who can create chances and change the course of a game,” Okocha told Brila FM.
“We need midfielders who can run at defenders and a pick their teammates with good passes.
“We have good midfielders but not in at that level at the moment. Some of them are just scared and the fact that they are being compared to the 1994 Eagles brings a bit of pressure on them.”

A total of 925 persons who did not undergo any of recruitment processes for 10,000 Constables were smuggled into the list last year, the Police Service Commission (PSC) revealed Tuesday.
It said the 925 persons neither applied for the job nor went through screening, aptitude test and medical examinations.
The PSC said this Tuesday while refuting allegations it was withholding the payment for some Police Constables recruited last year.
According to a statement signed by spokesman for the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, all Constables properly recruited have been screened, appointment letters released capturing into the Integrated Pay-Roll and Personnel Information System, (IPPIS) for the payment of their salaries and allowances approved.
“The Commission wishes to clarify that it had to bend backwards to accommodate the list of these candidates even after the Court of Appeal gave judgment in favour of the Commission nullifying the hijack of the recruitment exercise by the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Appeal Court judgment which is still subsisting had declared the exercise null and void and returned the Constitutional Powers of the commission to recruit all persons into the Nigeria Police Force.
“It is also necessary to clarify that in the cause of screening of the list of the 10,000 successful candidates, the commission discovered that 925 persons never applied for recruitment and did not go through the stages and processes of recruitment. These included screening, aptitude test and medical examinations.
“The commission however in the overall interest of the nation and considering that resources had been expended in the training of these candidates and that these candidates had been exposed to weapon and weaponry decided to rescreen them.
“These candidates already rescreened, except those found to be criminally minded (with mutilated certificates) are expected to be absorbed into the Force.
“The commission is expected to approve their recruitment at its next Plenary Meeting holding next week after which they will receive letters of appointment and subsequently captured by IPPIS,” he said.

…As agency commences sensitization campaign against fire outbreak
The administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Tuesday, handed over four rapid response vehicles and a 12,000-liter capacity water tanker it newly purchased, to the State Fire Service, to aid operations of the fire-fighting agency in the state, especially this dry season.
Handing over the utility vehicles to the State Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Daniel Ohaa, on behalf of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, disclosed that the state government procured the vehicles “to enhance the work of the Enugu State Fire Service”.
Prof. Ortuanya noted that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration, in recognition of the importance of an effective and efficient fire service in safeguarding lives and property, had earlier constructed five ultra modern fire service stations across the three senatorial districts of the state, after 56 years such life-saving infrastructure were built in the state.
The SSG added that the state government had also procured five IVM fire-fighting trucks for the five fire service stations, stressing that the newly procured rapid response vehicles and the water tanker handed over to the agency were timely in view of the harmattan season.
“It is therefore, to the glory of God and in the interest of our state and humanity that I, on behalf of His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, inaugurate these rapid response vehicles and also perform the formal hand over of these vehicles to the Enugu State Fire Service”, Prof. Ortuanya said.
Responding, the Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Ohaa expressed the agency’s deep appreciation to Gov. Ugwuanyi for “the type of attention His Excellency is paying to us to ensure that we discharge our duties effectively, professionally and efficiently”, saying: “There is never a time we received this type of support in the past”.
Engr. Ohaa who disclosed that the state government has approved the procurement of additional water tanker for the State Fire Service, promised the governor and the people of Enugu State that the fire-fighting agency will not disappoint them but “will do our best to make sure that lives and property of our people are protected”.
The Chief Fire Officer had earlier in the day led his team to Ogbete Main Market, Enugu and Timber Market in commencement of the scheduled public enlightenment campaign in the markets to sensitize traders on how to prevent fire outbreak during this dry season. A mini fire-fighting truck was stationed at Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, by the agency, Engr. Ohaa further disclosed.
