PRAY IN THE SPIRIT

BIBLE READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 14:1-18

And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. Mark 16:17

In the fourteenth chapter of his first Epistle to the Corinthians, Apostle Paul extolled the virtues of prophesying and of speaking in tongues. “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.” Further down in verse 18 of that same chapter, he said, “I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all.” In this assertion is found the secret or mystery that explains why Apostle Paul did so much more than his contemporaries.

Apart from edifying yourself when you pray in the Spirit, you also speak mysteries to God concerning issues your human intellect would never fathom or comprehend. It will profit you greatly if you follow Apostle Paul’s footsteps and pray in tongues for appreciable lengths of time every day.

There may not be hard and fast rules as to how long you should pray, but the Lord Jesus seems to have set a pattern when He said to His disciples, “What, could ye not watch with me one hour?” (Matthew 26:4. In that Gethsemane experience, the Lord prayed for three consecutive hours, but He expected His disciples to have watched with Him for at least, one hour.

You may need to be reminded that corporate worship carries the highest anointing. Therefore, seek out for opportunities to worship God alongside other brethren. Situations that you could not address during your time of private devotion simply melt like wax when taken to the awesome presence of God that is characteristic of corporate worship.

PRAYER POINTS:
•Thank God for the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

•Pray in tongues as long as you can.

CONFESSION:
I will not relent in praying in tongues because when I do, the Holy Spirit guides me to pray the will of God.
