THE DAY OF GIFTS
BIBLE READING: 2ND COR. 9:6-8
And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts. Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins. So all the people departed, everyone to his house. II Samuel 6:18-19
Traditionally, boxing day was the day gifts were given and unwrapped. It was the day after Christmas that the Kings and nobles would give gifts to all the servants in the castle and extend it to all the people around. It was a day of giving.
Today however, the essence of the Boxing Day is lost. But it doesn't have to be. Remember, it is more blessed to give than to receive. Don't wait until you have excess before you can give. Learn to give from the little you have because giving starts from the heart before the actual parting of the gift.
Remember to give cheerfully because God loves a cheerful giver. Whilst you give, do not publish it if you want to receive a reward from God. As the recipients needs are met, they thank God who in turn bless you in accordance to His riches in Glory. When we give to the poor, we lend same unto the Lord.
Do not be a resouvoir but a viable channel of blessings. Let men bless the name of the Lord for your alms and same will rise unto the Lord soon as a memorial. Remember, givers never lack.
ACTION POINT:
As we celebrate the gift of Jesus Christ, go out of your way, and find some people around you, who don't have as much as you do, and give them a gift. As they unwrap the box, you will see their smiles unwrapped as they say, thank you. Put a smile on someone's face today.
