Anambra LG Workers Celebrate NULGE Welfare Week And Immortalized Former Leader

The National Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) Anambra State Chapter, begins its 2020 edition of NULGE Week and Welfare Day celebrations slated for November 12 and 13, 2020.

The events which are aimed at promoting social interaction among local government employees and rewarding diligent members who have distinguished themselves in the service to their fatherland, began with a grand carnival by the local government staff in the 21 local government areas of the State across the major streets of Amawbia and Awka, terminating at the Union Secretariat Complex.

In his opening remark, the chairman of the occasion, Hon. (Barr.) Raphael Asha Nnabuife, the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Council, extolled the resilience of local government workers in the State. He described them as “the engine of democracy.”

In the same vein, Comr Adigwe Chikwelu, the Anambra State Chairman of NULGE, in his welcome address, praised the service and the contribution of late Sir Autin Ezepue who described as a model for all public workers.


“Thirty-one years(31) today, we have gathered to celebrate and immortalize the man who brought NULGE from old Anambra State to the new Anambra State in the year 1989. Sir Austin Ezepue “AGADAGA” remains the face of NULGE today in the history of our union in Anambra State,” Comr. Chikwelu said.



Also, he recognised the contributions of successive leaderships that followed Sir Ezepue’s administration whom he said that “The history of this “AGADAGA NULGE HOUSE” will not be complete without mentioning. This list according to the State NULGE Chairman includes Comr. Sir G. C. Ibekwe(Osisioma Ogbunike) and Engr Dr. Nnamdi Neaduogbu(Etodike).


The high point of the occasion was the unveiling of the Union’s secretariat named after the inspirational and charismatic Labour leader, late Comrade (Sir) Austin Ezepue, popularly known as Agadaga. He served the union as State President, both in the old and new Anambra states. During which, a lot of notable achievements were recorded for the growth and development of the local government system in the state, and the nation at large.


Another very remarkable highlight of the occasion was the installation of the Agadaga Leadership Merit Award placed to recognise workers who have served meritoriously in the 21 local government of Anambra State.

The event was graced by the following dignitaries, Hon. Chris Azubuogu, Chief Valentine Ozigbo, Chief Greg Obi (Hon. Commissioner of LG, Chieftaincy and community affairs), HRM Igwe CN Okpala(Ezenebo III Akwaeze), and Hon. Gorge Ozor, Sir Peter Egenti.
