774,000 Jobs: FG says beneficiaries will be reengaged as agric extension workers

The federal government has given more update on the 774,000 jobs project - National Directorate of Employment said the beneficiaries will not be disengaged after the three-month period - NDE DG, Mohammed Argungu, said the beneficiaries will be re-engaged as agricultural extension workers

Mohammed Nasir Ladan Argungu, director-general of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has stated that the beneficiaries of the 774,000 jobs will not be disengaged after the three-month period. The NDE DG, however, said they will be re-engaged as agricultural extension workers in what partially broke the back of controversies generated by the planned project. Speaking with Daily Trust, Argungu who is also the chairman of the selection committee said there have been efforts by some people to hijack the scheme.

He further added the recent furore and dust raised is because of clashes of interest as some members of the National Assembly want to oversee and control the project.

Argungu said the federal government, through the Ministry of Labour and Employment, will not give room for possible manipulation of the project. He further claimed that if successfully executed, the project will boost local economy, provide jobs and help reduce the level of poverty. "I believe is one of the most important (objective of the scheme). We’re not just to engage 1, 000 young men and women in each local government after three months. "We have carried out studies across the nation, we are going to use these young men and women as agricultural extension workers. We’ve put everything in place, we did some studies," Argungu said.
Meanwhile,It was reported that the planned 774,000 jobs for Nigerians project is still generating disquiet as House of Representatives members who belong to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejected the scheme, saying it is politically motivated.
