COVID-19: NKANU WEST LG PARTNERS WITH STAKEHOLDERS

....distributes palliatives to the masses.

Right from the first time Covid-19 cases were recorded in Enugu State, the Chairman of Nkanu West LG, Chief Sir Nwabueze Nnamani (Ikeoha) has been making frantic efforts to ensure that the people of his LGA are properly sensitized and protected from the global pandemic.

Ikeoha was among the first Council Chairmen to inaugurate a _Covid-19 Sensitization Committee_ and also deployed Community Health Workers to all the nooks and crannies of the LGA to educate his people on the dangers of Coronavirus and how to avoid contracting it. He also distributed hand sanitizers, buckets, liquid soaps etc to people through the Health Centres in Nkanu West LGA.

The Council Chairman had earlier set up a _COVID-19 Enforcement Team_ comprising of members of different security agencies in Nkanu West LG to monitor and ensure strict adherence to the lockdown order of the Enugu State government.

The Enforcement and Enlightenment Teams have been living up to expectations as evidenced in the level of compliance with the State government and NCDC directives on COVID-19 in Nkanu West LGA.

Speaking during a radio program recently, the Council Chairman stated that "I want to do something more unique by involving the stakeholders of Nkanu West LG in the provision of palliatives to the masses."

He explained that the idea is to harness resources together from well meaning stakeholders and add to what the local government has, so that adequate food items can be purchased and carefully distributed to the indigent people of Nkanu West during this covid-19 lockdown.

He stated that "I don't want to take the glory alone, that is why I called on our distinguished stakeholders to join hands with the LG Council so that we can do it together as a family and share in the glory"

Ikeoha whose major agenda is to unite the people of Nkanu West LG pointed out that "just as my name (Ikeoha) implies, I derive my strength in unity. The LG is not any particular individual, it is made up of everyone of us. If we all join hands together, we will be able to take good care of our people."

The Chairman noted that "in line with my desire to unite our people, I have been holding meetings with our esteemed stakeholders and I am happy with the level of cooperation I have received from them so far.

"People like Hon Chief Onyemauche Nnamani and Hon Ben Nwoye _(Enugu State Chairman of APC)_ who are prominent leaders of APC in Enugu State have been attending our stakeholders' meetings and making meaningful contributions in support of the local government. This shows the high level peace, maturity and understanding that is currently existing in Nkanu West."

To ensure that relief materials get to the doorsteps of the target group, especially the vulnerable ones, committees were constituted both at the local government and ward levels to handle the distribution of relief materials to the people of Nkanu West LG.

The _Nkanu West Covid-19 Palliative Commitee_ which is responsible for managing the funds contributed by the LG and the stakeholders procured and distributed 400 bags of (25kg) rice, 800 cartons of noodles, 50 bags of (100kg) beans, and 3,000 tubers of yam to the 14 political wards in the LG. Other items shared are hand sanitizers a d face masks.

In his address during the distribution of the stimulus packages to the different wards, the LG Chairman thanked all the stakeholders who partnered with the LG Council on the massive distribution of palliatives.
