Fashion Designer Gets ₦500,000 after Philanthropist Mistakenly Splashed Her Water

Read below:
today, on our way back from the day's business, one of the protocol cars mistakenly splashed water on a young lady who was walking by. I am often alert and so when I observed her actions, I needed to apologise.

Unlike what a lot of people would do, the young lady did not scream or curse at our cars . She cleaned herself up without a word and walked on.

This act of calmness in the face of such chaos and disruption called my attention.
Immediately, I instructed the cars to park and I called the young lady to apologize on behalf of my team. Of course, when she came, we apologized to her as much as words could convey and I asked her what she did for a living and when she said she was a fashion designer, we thought of the best way to assist her and eventually signed a cheque of half a million naira (500k) to her.

I dislike conducts that put others in uneasy places and I never encourage it. But the calmness that this lady exhibited was truly profound and I couldn't ignore it.

May our conducts in the face of uneasy situations enable others have a rethink. May it teach others important lessons about life.

INOYO TORO FOUNDATION SCREENS 200 AKWA IBOM TEACHERS FOR 2021 AWARDS, MIGRATES TO CBT WITH LOCALLY-DEVELOPED SOFTWARE

Ahead of its 2021 awards for teachers in various prize categories, Inoyo Toro Foundation has successfully conducted screening tests for over 200 teachers in Akwa Ibom State.

The screening tests were conducted over the weekend using a customized software solution, ‘ITF Online Exams’, locally developed by the International Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Research (ICEESR), University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

Conducted at Ibom e-Library, Uyo for applicants in various subject areas, the 2021 screening tests represented a milestone in Inoyo Toro Foundation’s fourteen years of operations in Akwa Ibom State, as it signaled the first successful migration from Paper Based Testing (PBT) to Computer Based Testing (CBT).

Speaking on the development, the Chairman, Inoyo Toro Foundation Award Committee, Dr. Enobong Joshua expressed satisfaction and spoke of the advantages the CBT over the paper-based system. He particularly celebrated the ICEESR for the brilliant innovation successfully deployed, adding that the choice of a locally developed solution was deliberate.

“Today is a great day in our Foundation and in the evolution of this Foundation. We are running the CBT today for the first time, migrating from the paperwork we used to have. It brings a lot of advantages as it makes the work faster and easier for us as administrators… I give God the praise for enabling us to get to this point…We trust that we would continue with it and more teachers would get exposed to ICT.

Dr. Joshua added, “It’s also important to note that we didn’t go elsewhere to look for the software to use but we acquired locally developed software. Young men and women worked hard over the months to develop the software through the courtesy of International Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Research (ICEESR) at the University of Uyo.”

On her part, the Director, ICEESR who doubles as the ITF Online Exams Project Team Lead, Dr. Edu Inam enumerated the basic features of the software and commended the Advisor, ITF, Mr. Udom Inoyo; the Chairman of the ITF Award Committee, Dr. Enobong Joshua; the Chairperson, ITF, Mrs. Ntekpe Inoyo; the Program Manager, Mrs. Imo Ekong-Bassey and all the board members for giving her team the opportunity.

“We are really grateful to the Foundation for giving us the opportunity to demonstrate our ability and capability. The Foundation had the option of going for a ready-made software program that is already in the market. If they had gone that route, they would have been empowering foreign developers. Rather, they decided to look for local solutions and they believed the researchers at ICEESR would be able to deliver a custom-made, fit-for-purpose software program and today that product which we have christened ITF Online has successfully been used for the screening exercise for the 2021 teachers’ excellence award. This is a major milestone and we are really excited... Through this, the Foundation has been able to empower local developers, like it empowers other professionals.

“Let me say a little about this our product, ITF Online. This product can compete favorably with all the other ready-made software programs in the market, in terms of security, simplicity in usage and all objectives that we set out to achieve. First, prospective candidates go online and submit their applications. It’s very easy and simple, with the basic knowledge of ICT, you can complete and submit your application online. And then, the program managers are able to look at the applications and screen and select the ones fit to be invited for the screening exercise. The people would receive their passwords in their phones. The program officers are able to schedule the exams. The examiners on the other hand, are able at their own comfort to populate the question bank; the software has a question bank. On the day of the exams, seamlessly the prospective candidates take the tests and see their scores upon submission…”Dr. Inam explained.

In their separate remarks after the screening tests, some of the teachers expressed appreciation to the Foundation for staying consistent over the years in anchoring the excellence award program for secondary school teachers in the state and particularly commended the adoption of CBT which, they said, made it possible for candidates to see their scores immediately after the examination, thereby taking away the anxiety associated with waiting for results.

Inoyo Toro Foundation is an education interventionist NGO committed to the promotion of education through teachers’ awards, students’ mentorship and school infrastructure intervention and has so far spent over N400M to reward over 235 teachers and 3 principals, to train over 3,500 teachers, to mentor over 5,040 students, and to positively impact over 90 schools in Akwa Ibom State.

*Claims that Inoyo Did Not Help Akwa Ibom People While In ExxonMobil Are False - Dr. Dominic Ukpong*

UYO - The immediate past Commissioner for Health in Akwa Ibom State and Honorary Special Adviser on Health Matters to Governor Udom Emmanuel has revealed how the former Vice Chairman of Exxonmobil Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Udom Inoyo helped mobilized the employment of Akwa Ibom people to work in ExxonMobil.

He disclosed this in a recent interview with newsmen and was captured by the Mail Newspaper in Uyo.

Ukpong who was the Group Medical Director and Country Manager in the Medicine and Occupational Health Department of the Oil Giant explained that Mr. Inoyo took several intentional efforts to ensure that Akwa Ibom people are not only engaged in the company but occupy befitting positions.

He described Mr. Inoyo as an astute administrator whose discipline and honesty had facilitated his rise to the echelon of his service at ExxonMobil, pointing out that the claim that Inoyo did not help Akwa Ibom people during his reign with ExxonMobil is false and done out of ignorance.

Ukpong opened up that he heard some people saying that Mr. Inoyo does not love his people which is owing to their suspicion that he wants to vie for an elective position, advised that such posture should not be the rationale for assessing one's capacity to hold political office, that even if that is the motivation, he is aware that Inoyo did a lot to get Akwa Ibom people into the company.

"I heard some people talk that he does not love his people. If I want to vie for an elective position now, they will say you were in Mobil. You didn’t employ people. They don’t know how many I have helped in Mobil there. But I know that Udom did a lot to get people from our State to be there."

The Honorary Special Adviser informed that before Inoyo got to the company, there used to be a lot of obstacles to employing Akwa Ibom people as a former staff, who is now late, and from Akwa Ibom extraction struggled to change the trend but did not succeed until Inoyo came in to discover some unpleasant things that hindered the employment of Akwa Ibom people in the company.

"Anietie Johnson who is late fought a lot to get people into the company. He had a lot of obstacles. But Udom came into that place, he was the one who found some dirty things that were being done underground to exclude our people."

Clarifying some measures taken by Inoyo to ensure that Akwa Ibom people are employed in the company, the governor's adviser said: "when people were to be employed through advertisement, he left his office to go to town. If they told him about someone’s house, he went there two times to ensure he sees that person apply. He sought for those who got First Class, second class upper to apply, if that’s what they are looking for, he got them to apply”.

“And when they were trying to shortchange those people, I can tell you he fought. You can find out. In one particular interview in which he encouraged and mobilized our people to apply, 93 people did that Interview. The first five (5) of that 93 came from our State. Yet, we were a State that was said to be uneducated. I know that because we were very close."

Dr. Ukpong further narrated that Akwa Ibom people who worked in ExxonMobil had a rallying group named “ufok” in which they discussed challenges facing people at home and how to address them maintaining that Udom Inoyo was at the forefront of battling those challenges especially as it concerns the employment of Akwa Ibom people into ExxonMobil.

Continuing, he recounted that: “For a senior manager to run to town and ask ‘do you have somebody? What has he got? What did he score’? You say 2.1 in Engineering. He will say give me the name or call the person, is worth appreciation. Nobody was paying him money for that. I do not think he was doing that for any purpose. It is because we felt that we have been marginalized in a company that comes from our area.

“When the result of that particular interview came out, the first was a woman from our State. I remember my friend in Mobil calling me to tell me ‘your people have risen now’. I told him; they have always been there. Just to give them an opportunity. All these changed positively because of Udom Inoyo’s involvement. I know how he suffered. That was why when he was promoted, I stood in the meeting and said what did I tell you? That God exists and with time, he will show up. I remember one day, he came to ask me ‘Dr., when will this God stand up for us’?.

The Coordinator of covid-19 Incident Management Team in Akwa Ibom noted misconceptions by some Akwa Ibom people about the staff of ExxonMobil from Akwa Ibom state which must change. “I have noticed that anyone who works in Mobil and comes out, he is not received well at home by his people. The people just felt he worked in Mobil and earned a good salary. He didn’t do anything.

“Our people had created the impression that they won’t be taken there but we said just apply. We encouraged and mobilized people. Do not forget that Inoyo was in the administration. He was there. He saw what happened and he did a lot. The ufok was also for Cross River State people who worked in Mobil. And if you felt victimized, we served as a group that if someone felt victimized, we plead with the authorities and say this is not fair for this person. When did we ever have Executive Director or Vice-Chairman? Udom Inoyo is the first", he concluded.

Situation report on covid 19 vaccine I took on September 7, 2021.👇👇

Day1

Barely 3 hours after the vaccination, I had severe pains on my left shoulder(the side it was injected) which made it difficult for me to carry my hands up.

The shoulder pains intensifies as hours go by such that it was as if a block was tired to my left hand.

Day2

Headache, fever, general body pains

It started as cold on the night I took the vaccine. I shiver like a baby under a duvet while praying for the day to break.

I lost appetite the following morning but I forced myself and ate even more than I should eat on a normal situation because of how I was feeling.

Few hours after I left my house to office, the headache doubles, fever triples, waist pains surfaces, cough and sneezing 'join hands,' even my legs could not carry my already weakened and pained body.

Here, there was no bed, no duvet; laying down on the cold tiled floor was not an option.

I folded myself unto a nearby bench while my neighbours and cousin who were privy to my vaccination ordeal started making fond of me 😭😭. They had warned me against going for the vaccination the day before. One of them jokily told me not to come back to my office because he said I was going to contract Corona after the vaccination.

Anyone that saw me knew I was not myself.

As the clock ticks, so my condition worsened. I reached out for the card I was issued at the health centre during the vaccination. There was a phone number on it and I dialed it.

There was a male voice at the other end, but I was expecting a female's because all of them at the centre were females.

"I am Koko Robson, I took covid 19 vaccine yesterday at your health centre, I want to report to you how I am feeling right now", I told him.

"Yessss, go on" he replied. I uploaded my frustrations into my phone's mouthpiece while the man at the other end listened with outmost attention.

" Oh sorry, Koko. Have you taken paracetamol since you took the vaccine?" he asked and I told him "no."

"They should have told you to take paracetamol if you experience any pains because most people that took the vaccination have been giving similar complaints. Please take paracetamol and you will be find. Sorry brother, he said and hang up.

I sent for a card of paracetamol and took two tablets immediately. In less than 30mins, I began to sweat so much that I sat up on the bench unbuttoned my shirt. The fever disappeared, the body pains subsided and I began to hum a tune which signalled my neighbours that I was getting myself back🤪🤪🤪.

Day 3(today)

All the pains are gone 💪💪 except the little pains I am still having on the shoulder.😒😒

But the cough and sneezing still persists though, occasionally.

Have you been vaccinated?🙄🙄
