* As Airforce vows to deploy helicopters against Katsina bandits President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the Katsina state government and Emirate Council that his administration will do whatever it takes to rid the country of bandits, terrorists and criminals. The President gave the assurance on Monday in a condolence message delivered on his behalf by the Chief of Staff, Malam Abba Kyari. Malam Kyari led Federal Government delegation to Katsina state to commiserate with Governor Aminu Bello Masari and Emir of Katsina, Abdulmuminu Kabir Usman, over the recent killings by bandits.

The delegation included Minister of Defence, General Bashir Magashi (rtd), Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika and Director General of National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar. AOthers on the delegation are the Senior Special Assistants to the President, Household and Social Events, Malam Sarki Abba, and Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

Presidential media aide, Garba Shehu, in a statement on Monday, said the delegation was sent by President Buhari to condole with government and people of Katsina, and also get a full brief on the security situation in the state, especially on the attack that claimed many lives in Batsari local government area at the weekend. The President, who condoled with families of the 31 victims of the attack, prayed that Almighty God will comfort all of them and grant the departed rest. Governor Masari, while receiving the delegation shortly after his return from Batsari Council, said the latest incident had marred seven months of unbroken peace in the state as a result of measures put in place by his administration.

The governor thanked the President for sending the delegation to condole with the state. The Emir of Katsina, who also thanked the President for sending the team to Katsina, implored the military and police to put more effort in tackling the menace. “We must go all out and spare no effort in tackling them.

They are trying to destroy the country,” he added. The heads of security agencies, military and police, who gave their situation reports to the delegation at the meeting, said that Nigerian Air Force fighter helicopters, with night vision capability, will support the ground operation against bandits.

Hundreds Sleep On Maiduguri Streets For Fear Of Boko Haram
Fear of Boko Haram attack has made women and children flee their village and take to lodging in the open in Maiduguri.

People from over 300 households in Kayamla, in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, said they had to flee into Maiduguri when the villages around them were attacked and they felt they might be raided by Boko Haram.

Speaking to our correspondent on Monday morning, the women said their husband sent them into Maiduguri to seek refuge while they stay back in Kayamla.

One of the women, Yagana Mele, on the street beside the NYSC orientation camp in Maiduguri which has been converted to IDPs camp, said, “We have been staying here for about two weeks now, we have no choice but to sleep on the street since we were turned back from the camps.”

She narrated that they decided to flee into Maiduguri when it was becoming apparent that their village might be attacked as others around them had been attacked.

The people had, however, been taken off the streets to the Stadium IDPs camp by the Borno State Emergency Management Agency on Monday afternoon.

The Chairperson of BOSEMA, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo, said as soon as the state government got to know of their predicaments it arranged accommodation for them at the Stadium IDPs camp.

She revealed that they were about 300 households and numbered over 1,000.

Magu: Diezani Stole $2.5bn Supported By Generation Of Looters
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has appealed to the United Kingdom to extradite ex-Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to Nigeria to account for the missing public money linked to her.

Speaking to reporters in Kaduna on Monday, the acting chairman of the anti-corruption body, Ibrahim Magu, claimed Alison-Madueke stole “not less than $2.5bn.”

He said Nigeria needed the money to boost its economy.

Magu said it was “unfortunate she has a generation of looters supporting her.”

The EFCC chief added, “I was in London this year, we did an investigation together with the UK team, and anywhere I go I always call for the extradition of corrupt Nigerians to return (stolen) money.

“This woman (Alison-Madueke) has stolen so much, not less than $2.5bn, but unfortunately she has a generation of looters who are supporting her. This is not good.

“We are in touch with the international community, she is under protective custody, otherwise, we would have arrested her and bring her to Nigeria.”

Magu said corruption was surmountable, noting that in 2019, a total of 1,218 convictions were secured by the commission.

He said, “We will not allow corruption to work here in Nigeria because it is destructive and disastrous. We blocked several accounts.”
