Nigerian politicians have been advised to put God first, apart from doing everything humanly possible to promote and improve the welfare of the people rather than chasing after wealth through desperate political ambitions, which do not take the masses into consideration.
Newly elected chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in the Federal Capital Territory [FCT] Mr. Sunday Zakka Dogo, gave the advice in Abuja. He remarked that major sections of the nation’s political class pursue inordinate aspirations with fake promises deliberately designed to give advantage to the politicians at the expense of the electorate.
The chairman decried what he called “promise and fail syndrome, which has become the tactics of some politicians and the pursuit of power with other spiritual means.”
He wondered why anyone should pledge to do things, when there are obvious signs that the person does not have the capacity to fulfill such promises.
Sunday Zakka Dogo, who spoke to newsmen after a thanksgiving church service said: “I advise people, especially politicians, who are serving other gods and are not doing what was expected of them or what they promised before their election into office, to repent and return to the true God, who is the Almighty.
“It is said that one with God has the majority; but they [politicians] should understand that it is the one living God that was referred to in the statement and not other gods made by men. He [God] can make everything possible.
“There are many people, who pray without getting results, not because of the way they pray; but when their intentions are not pure, their prayers may not be answered.”
Sunday Zakka Dogo appealed to PDP members, who also contested the FCT chairmanship position but failed, to join hands with him in rebuilding the structure of the party, bearing in mind that the PDP slogan states that members are one family. He reminded PDP members in the FCT that area council electioneering campaigns would soon commence and declared that the party requires unity, hard work, cooperation and understanding among its members to succeed in ousting the ruling All Progressives Party [APC].
