Today, I read with utmost dismay that the English FA’s decision to summon Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace for writing “I Love Jesus” on the LGBTQ armband undermines the principles of freedom of expression and religious liberty.
His action was not an attack but a peaceful affirmation of his faith, which should be respected in any inclusive society.
As a Christian, our faith Christianity holds traditional views on relationships that may differ from modern LGBTQ views.
Forcing players to endorse causes that conflict with their beliefs infringes on their freedom of worship and expression.
Marc Guehi’s actions reflect his devotion to his faith, not hostility towards others and should not be penalized.
The Ipswich captain refused to wear the armband and was rightly supported by his club.
To my mind, a truly inclusive society should accommodate diverse perspectives, including but not limited to religious convictions.
To punish Guehi, would mean that the FA risks alienating players and fans who feel their beliefs are being suppressed.
Genuine inclusivity requires respect for all viewpoints, not the imposition of one ideology at the expense of others.
Punishing him for this harmless expression suggests that the FA prioritizes ideological conformity over protecting individual rights. My take.
