PAY IT FORWARD

BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 18:23-34

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38(KJV)

In the year 2000, Hollywood released a movie called ‘PAY IT FORWARD”. The movie told the story of a thirteen year old boy who came up with an idea as a Social Studies project. The project was to think of an idea that could change the world, then go out and do it. His idea was to find three people, and do something kind for them, something good that they could not do for themselves. Instead of them paying you back, you ask them to each ‘pay it forward’ to three other people. To do good deeds for them they could not do for themselves. This idea started a revolution that took the entire country by storm, and had drug addicts, thugs, Lawyers, Doctors, Journalists, etc, getting involved and turning their lives around.

Jesus talked about this in the parable of the wicked servant as seen in our Bible reading for today. The servant was given mercy and forgiveness, yet he refused to give it to his fellow servant. He did not appreciate what he had been given, as a result, he couldn’t give it in return. One of the best ways to show appreciation for something done for you, is to do the same or even more for others.

As the year ends, let us show God how much we appreciate His goodness and his kindness by doing the same for others. Let us look for people who are in need and become agents of God’s faithfulness in their lives. Let us ‘pay it forward’ into their lives and see our heavenly Father smile down on us from heaven in approval as we move into the new year.

ACTION POINT:
Find people you can be a blessing to this season, and encourage them to be blessings to others as well. It doesn’t have to be materially, even lending a helping hand counts.
