The process that created N200 without documentation can also create N2000 and more without documentation.
I went to submit my son's online printout at NIS today and part of the process required me to go to the NIS accounts office to get some documents stamped.
When I got to the office, I was told the cost for "acknowledgement" is N200.
I asked if I will get a receipt and I was told there were no more receipt booklets.
I asked when the booklets will likely be available and I was told they don't know when.
The head of that unit now referred me to one Federal Pay office in the same building to ask about the receipt.
I simply paid the N200 and got my son's document submitted.
Then after that, I went to the Federal Pay office I was referred to, to find out why there were no receipts.
The women I met there simply told me they had no business with the NIS.
I went back to the Accounts office to get my money back and after making a scene, I got it back with serious pleading.
The amount was not the issue but the fraudulent process that had been setup is.
I noticed in many offices that I had been to at the NIS, many people just pay NIS staff to process their passport for them.
This is so bad that it is already an ecosystem at the NIS.
Please make it a habit to ask for receipts when you do any business at government establishments. If they won't give you a receipt, you are just being extorted.
If you comply with paying their fee, you are simply helping them build their empire of corruption and that small N200 that was casually paid today, can be traditionally made N2000 tomorrow.
Please, do not help them grow this corrupt empire; challenge it.
