Ebonyi South: Agom-Eze Demanded N20m From Me, Umahi Claims

The governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has alleged that his challenger, Ann Agom-Eze, demanded N20 million from him.

Agom-Eze is the main challenger of Umahi for the All Progressives Congress Ebonyi South senatorial district ticket.

In an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Umahi claimed that Agom-Eze was never the candidate of the APC for the senate at any point in time and had no grounds to challenge his emergence as the APC candidate.

Chronicling the events, Umahi said, “There was a primary election of APC for Ebonyi South senatorial zone on May 28th, upon which Ann Agom-Eze came second by winning two votes and Austin Umahi won by 283 votes. By the electoral act, Austin became the candidate of the party.

“There was never at any time that Agom-Eze became the candidate of the party.

“Let me say this, if it is said that some men don’t have honour, shouldn’t women also have honour? Ann sent me a text message when she came to negotiate for N20 million that I should give to her. I didn’t say no. She sent me a WhatsApp message acknowledging that she withdrew on her own without any influence. What was her withdrawal for? There is no provision for the second runner-up in the primary election of the 2022 Electoral Act. She withdrew under oath from contesting any further primaries of APC in Ebonyi State.

"There were about five events that would have afforded Agom-Eze the opportunity to challenge…she is working for the PDP candidate, because in all these things she has not been very close to being the candidate of the party. I have not used my position unduly at all.”

Abia North: Drop Mao Ohuabunwa Now, His Poor Performance Affecting Our Party - PDP Chieftain

A chieftan of the People's Democratic Party in Abia State, Hon. Samuel Uduma has said the poor performance of the former senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Mao Ohuabunwa was adversely affecting the chances of the party in Abia North senatorial district.

He stated this in a chat with journalists in Umuahia on Thursday, noting that the PDP was finding it "very hard" to market Ohuabunwa who represented Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency from 1999-2007 and Abia North senatorial district from 2015-2019.

Uduma, who is a grassroot mobilizer urged the party to drop Ohuabunwa as its senatorial candidate for the 2023 senatorial election for the party to make meaningful progress in next year's general elections.

"As we speak today, most of our members are against the nomination of Ohuabunwa because of the process that brought him. He was rejected by the delegates because of his poor performance at the National Assembly.

"If we must make progress in 2023, Ohuabunwa should be dropped immediately. It is obvious that he has been rejected by majority of our party members including youths and women. PDP is in disarray in Abia North because of the nomination of Ohuabunwa. Most of our leaders are silent because they are afraid to speak up.

"How can any serious party nominate a man who became infamous for doing nothing for 12 years in Abuja. What are we going to campaign with? That we distributed frying pan and had zero project for our people? Ohuabunwa is not the only politician in Abia North, his opponent in the primary is more popular and would have given us a good chance against the Chief Whip of the Senate.

"I am appealing to the Govenor and other party leaders to consider dropping Ohuabunwa now for the sake of our political survival. Ohuabunwa is a poor choice because of our experience. He cannot deliver his local government area not to talk of the zone. This is my humble appeal because the PDP is badly divided because of the choice of Ohuabunwa."

Recall we reported that Hon. Uko Nkole, member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency in the House of Representatives and aspirant for Abia-North senatorial zone, said the primary election conducted by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the district was inconclusive.

Nkole alleged that election materials for the primary poll were hijacked by Mao Ohuabunwa, a former senator for the district and his co-aspirant and Godwin Ndom, returning officer for the shadow election.

The lawmaker in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists called on the PDP to do the needful by rescheduling the primary election at the earliest possible date so as to conclude the process.

He said: “I place it on record unequivocally that the Abia North Senatorial Zone Primary election of the PDP, held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 was inconclusive as the election materials were hijacked by Mao Ohuabunwa and Ndom.

“On getting to the Ohafia LGA Secretariat venue of the primary, I was about to settle down when I was informed that the list being used to accredit delegates at the gate had names different from what was sent to the party national secretariat in Abuja and strangers were being accredited. I moved in to enforce the usage of the actual delegate list.

“After successful accreditation, voting commenced from Umunneochi LGA. After the Umunneochi delegates had cast their votes, Godwin Ndom, who still came with the team from the Party Office, directed that counting of ballots should follow each LGA vote as against the known procedure of counting at the end of balloting while four LGAs of Ohafia, Isiukwuato, Bende and Arochukwu were yet to cast their votes.

“Mao Ohuabunwa, in connivance with Ndom and his miscreants, personally grabbed the ballot box (bucket), available ballot papers and result sheets and ran out of the election venue after disrupting the entire process.

“This clarification has become necessary in view of the fact that the sponsor and beneficiary of this affront on our electoral processes, planned and premeditated this action knowing full well that he is unpopular and to orchestrate chaos he hopes to benefit from.” #newscast #pdp #abianorth #election #abia

2023 president: WIKE HAS NO OPTION BUT TO STAND WITH THE PEOPLE

ONWUASOANYA FCC JONES

I have had this kind of love and hate relationship with Governor Wike. However, what I will never deny about the Rivers State governor is that he stands out as one of the most courageous and most outspoken political leaders in current day Nigeria. At a time when it is deemed political wisdom to stand equivocated on national and political issues, Wike is one leader you can trust to state his stand and be ready to sink with it.

At a time when hypocrisy is seen as the greatest show of wisdom, Wike stands out as one who retains the old and fairest understanding of what wisdom truly is. That wisdom has nothing to do with insincerity is one fact we can't change. Wike doesn't flow along for the sake of being accepted. A man of wisdom has convinctions and Wike is never shy of expressing his convinctions. Sometimes, these convinctions appear too extreme and maybe lacking the finese of modern day gentility, but a convinced man doesn't care about finese. Finese is for dishonest, sneaky double dealers.

One title I detest most is the Igbo title; "Enyioha". I see those who take such title as dishonest people, because I do not see how someone can be honest and still be friends with everyone. Unfortunately, that's the new normal. The new normal is to strive to be loved by all, not because of the character you possess, but for the impression you put up. Didn't the good book tell us to 'be at peace with everyone? Well, it did, but under a condition; "As long as it is within your powers". Even God isn't friends with everyone nor is Christ, so, why would anyone want to be more righteous than the most righteous and supremest beings?

It is a mark of good nature, in fact, of righteousness, that a man moves with his convinction and doesn't bother himself if the next person feels good about it. That's who Wike is. Wike is a convinced man who understands that he doesn't need to give everyone ice-cream to be a good guy, sometimes, he has to give those who deserve it, bitterleaf.

Listening to Wike recently, I see a man who is passionate about taking Nigeria out of the current mess we have found ourselves in, a man who feels the pains of ordinary Nigerians made hopeless by bad governance, a man who wants Nigerians; the poor, the rich, the Hausa, the Yoruba, the Christian and the Muslim, to be given their right of place in their own country. I see a man who is dissatisfied with the injustice that has prevailed in our country over these years, and wants to bring about justice.

Wike is not as embittered with his failure to clinch the PDP presidential ticket as he is with the apparent injustice meted to ordinary Nigerians by the leadership class. He is repulsed by the desperation of the leading class to hold on to power at the detriment of millions of Nigerians. Wike wants a new Nigeria to be birthed, and he wants to be at the forefront of those who will do that.

However, Wike must be advised that in doing this, he is not deceived into taking what he might see as the easiest route to that liberation. He must stand with the people, even if standing with the people doesn't seem the safest thing to do, he has to. He has the courage, the ideas and the passion to navigate the people to victory. And he has to understand that the people's victory neither lies with the PDP nor the APC.

Governor Wike must consolidate his place in history as a hero of our democracy, as a hero of the New Nigeria, by throwing his weight behind the only people driven presidential candidate. Yes, it might appear a hard task to accomplish, but I am confident that with the right strategies and with the involvement of people like Wike, it is almost a certainty.

NIGERIA MUST PREVAIL!
