THANKSGIVING: A TOOL OF WARFARE

BIBLE READING: 2 CHRONICLES. 20:1-23

“O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.” Psalms‬ ‭105:1-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬
‭‭
Yesterday, we looked at the ten lepers who were healed and the one who came back to say thank you. His return to say thank you brought wholeness to him that the others didn’t receive. This wholeness might translate from just receiving physical healing to adding financial prosperity, emotional healing, soundness of mind etc.

Today we see that thanksgiving is also a tool for spiritual warfare. In the realm of the spirit, praise and thanksgiving to God, especially in an environment of trouble, brings a release of the presence and power of God Psalm 22:3 and even angelic manifestations sometimes, to fight the battle on your behalf. In the Bible Reading above, Jehoshaphat urged the people to give thanks and praises to God and he set a praise team in front of his army. God showed up on the wings of that praise and won a great victory for Judah that day.

Paul and Silas were also two people who deployed this principle and obtained a divine intervention in their situation. They had been imprisoned for preaching the gospel. “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭16:25-26‬ ‭KJV‬ Even in the depths of prison when despair should have overtaken them, they praised God and He showed up on their behalf.

When the children of Israel were on their way to the promised land, they had to go through Jericho. Jericho was a walled city that was so fortified that the walls were as thick as they were high. Unless God showed up on the scene, there was no way the children of Israel were going to prevail. God instructed them to march around the city once every day and on the seventh day, they were to march around it seven times and then shout in praise. When that happened, the walls were pushed into the ground by the angels of God on deployment to Jericho. “And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city. So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.”‭‭Joshua‬ ‭6:15-16, 20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As the year ends, what is that issue that you think cannot be resolved, what is that battle that you think has already been lost, burst into songs and begin to praise God, and see Him take it over and settle it on your behalf.

ACTION POINT:
Reflect on the goodness and mercies of God on your life from January to December. Count your blessings, write them down and faith will rise to give God unusual praise and thanksgiving.
